Ryanair left me stranded in Barcelona with no accommodation and no flight home until a week later due to a snowstorm and I didn’t so much as raise my voice to the lady at the airport. I work in retail at a petrol station. I can confirm that if you are calm, polite and realise that it's not necessarily our fault, me and my staff will move heaven and earth to help you. If you want to be an asshole I guarantee we hold the power to be a bigger asshole than you can. Case in point, we were getting a fuel delivery and site operating procedures say we have to close (not our rules, the local council impose it on us if we want to have a petroleum licence). A lady pulled up as I was closing the site and explained that she was about to run out of fuel on her way to visit her daughter in hospital and asked if there was any way we could let her fill up quickly. She was polite and apologetic about turning up at a bad time. I said it wasn't a problem and let her on to the site to fill up. Case number 2: One week previous a guy in a 4x4 drove over the pavement and grass verge to bypass the barriers, rolled his window down, and when I went over to explain we were closed he yelled at me "I f**king know your closed but I need fuel!". He did not get fuel. I also didn't move the barriers to let him exit. He sat there for 45 minutes while the tanker delivered our load.

Depends on the employee. I once had an early United flight out of Orlando get delayed (bird strike on the way in took a chunk out of one of the jet fins), they boarded us then deboarded us. When it was at a point that there was no way I was going to make my connecting flight I got in line to speak to the agents about ensuring I had a proper flight path back, there was one person being assisted and one person in front of me in line with two to three agents not doing anything. At some point an agent came out of the door and she told all of us who were in line there was no reason for us to be standing in line (in a very unfriendly way), the person in front of me got out of line and a few behind as well; I stayed in line because I had a proper reason and she huffed off. Not 5 minutes later the same agent came out and announced that the flight was cancelled for the day and everyone needed to, wait for it, get in line. While one agent was still helping the one person at the counter rebook his family's flight to hong kong I waited around watching 3-4 agents not helping us as they printed off vouchers for hotel and so on; instead of getting rightfully annoyed at them I called United 800 number of had them rebook me flying out in a couple hours on another airline. I then waited in line to have them print out boarding tickets for me, and I went down and waited for the luggage to be offloaded so I could check in at the new airline. I eventually got home that day, but I will tell you one thing I will never fly United ever again.

What's really bizarre is that these people are all so affronted at things not going perfectly on a *budget-airline* flight. Like, why did you think your ticket was so cheap? "No-frills" models mean you accept a little more risk (not safety-risk, but contract-risk) as a customer, in lieu of the money that would otherwise need to be paid to help ameliorate those risks (eg. for extra staff, extra equipment, extra resources in general). It's like a gambler being upset that they lost; what did you think you were doing in the first place?

We arrived super early for our flight home, when checkin/bag drop for the previous flight back to Gatwick was still open; our flight was still just off the board so we went to the desk to see if they knew when our check-in would open. The lady at the desk said she’d check, but after a minute mentioned that there were free seats on the earlier flight and if we wanted them we could have them, and if we did she’d bump us for free. I'm going to create an airline....It's going to be called ENTITLED AIRWAYS. It takes ONLY the people late for their flights, but I charge them 10 times as much, and have the passengers board on the airplane and sit there till the plane is completely full before we begin our taxi off the runway. They're on the flight on time, but sometimes they're waiting in their seats for 12 hours before even lifting off. Then they at least have the illusion of believing they didn't miss their flight.
@YourDaddysBelt695 жыл бұрын
I havent laughed so hard in years.
@GullibleTarget5 жыл бұрын
Take away those 12 hours(it would only cost Entitlement Airlines-not the passengers. Think of your profit margins!)and that would be perfect. But upon hearing those prices, I bet those passengers would flock back to the EZ counter with their tails between their legs and just buy a new EZ-ticket at 10% of what you're offering. But I like the idea! Maybe start Entitlement Airlines and then pitch the idea to Easyjet before going live? They could fund part of your company buy providing an aircraft and an exclusive 18 month contract that obligates them to send any entitled late passenger exclusively to your airline(pax who refuse the offer can only book a new EZ flight 48 hrs after the one they missed). Easyjet gets 49% of Entitlements' profits in return for providing Entitlement customers,staff and logistics. If succesful; you branch out to other airlines and negotiate a lower percentage in equity from Easyjet. Forcing them to drop their share and raising yours. Kerching. I say: go for it!
@sagbon985 жыл бұрын
"Welcome aboard Entitled Airways. Every staff member is a manager so if you want to speak to one, you have one. Not that it will do anything to change the flight. If you are especially entitled you can expect a free refund at the end of this flight for 100%. Remember, Entitled is the title! On today's flight from Luton to-...sorry, what's that? Oh. A passenger is running to the gate and is missing the flight...Karen McCaren. Pilots! Stop the plane! There. That's better."

ive worked at an airport for 2 years, 60 hour weeks, i takes a lot of time to process paperwork with official weights and passengers counts, if someone is late to checkin it takes a long time to redo paper work, send it to the pilots, have them enter all the data into their own systems, process the weights and distribute it properly, people dont understand what happens when going on a flight, its not just a simple, hop on the plane and thats it
@largol33t15 жыл бұрын
I understand EXACTLY how vital the weight is. I have fought and forced myself to leave unnecessary stuff at home before taking a trip. As a former airline customer service agent here is my recommendations for passengers: - Don't be late ideally ask the airline when making a booking about the recommended time you should arrive at the airport. always be sure to have an extra 30 minutes time in case of "airport setbacks" . Add even more time if you travel with kids, or if you don't know the airport. - Don't think that if an agent has been lenient about something you did wrong one day (late/over sized luggage ...) it will be OK every-time. - Don't assume that because a flight departure is announced as "delayed", you can check in late. - Always check you documents expiry date insure it's still valid the day of departure (check it also for your return flight date.) - Always check the items you put in your luggage, and weigh them if possible. Make sure your cabin bag isn't over-sized handle and wheels included. - Caution : Wet towels after "beach holidays" can drastically increase your luggage overall weight. - Don't believe that customer service agent have the power to charter a "special spare aicraft" because the you have a "very important appointment". - Customer service agents make no benefit in refusing people to flight. Whatever the reason might be. - Getting angry because of a cancellation / delay is understandable, just don't blame the staff for it. - Beware of flight broker websites, they bait you with attractive fares, but some of them don't warn you about special policies (pet/underage passenger not allowed to travel for instance). And when the shit hits fan (flight disruption, claim...) you won't always be able to deal directly with the airline company (as you don't have direct contract) thus inducing longer procedures. - Always assume that, no matter you did everything right on your side, any flight can be cancelled at any time, for any reason with any airline company. It might sound obvious to some confirmed travellers, but you got no ideas how many passengers missed their flight because of small mistakes (even myself).
