I like arriving early, you get through check-in, bag -drop and security with significantly less stress, knowing you've got less chance of missing your flight, I've had a few too many close calls for my liking. Once you are through security you can chill out, get a couple of pints in and some food... Also, now with Netflix allowing you to download episodes of shows and films now, you could catch up on a series etc. whilst waiting for your flight :-)

Get there on time, forget traffic jams, and accidents and no car park spaces. If your flight departure is midday, be walking through the main entrance to the airport at 9am. I've flown for over 40 years, never missed a flight. I live 15 miles away from Birmingham Airport, I always leave my house 4 hrs before departure time. Its not rocket science.

expect at least an hour to get there, an half hour to park and shuttle, an half hour to get through TSA, and give an hour for anything to go unexpectedly. Would much rather sit in the airport bored out of my mind for sometime, than to be panicked for missing it. In some cases, that extra hour saved me!

My strategy to getting to my flight early is booking a hotel the day before I'm supposed to be at the airport, get up early, grab a quick breakfast, and just hang out at the airport until my flight. And even if you can't book a hotel the day before, then just go to bed early and get up early. I've never flown before but it doesn't seem difficult to make it to your flight on time.

Hana Marie Turner same. say departure is at 12 o clock. so that means check in at the veryvery latest is gonna be 11 so you can get through security and to the gate. You probably will have to wait to get to the desk so thats again gonna be about 40mins. So thats getting to the airport 1 hour 40 minutes early and i’d still be bricking it

Ikr. I can't even fathom doing this. I arrive typically 3 hours before my flight, I have been known to stay overnight to avoid early morning transport that would cut it too close. @@hyukahrtz6807 i do exactly the same - I arrive 3 hours before my flight. ive only ever missed 1 flight in my life and I travel a lot and that was only because it was close to the dreaded midnight threshhold hence my confusion but I learnt from it and didnt make that mistake again. And when I did miss my flight from dubai back to my home in qatar, I didn't blame the airport or get annnoyed with the poor desk person, I accepted it was entirely my own fault and bought another ticket.

Yesterday I was travelling through London following a difficult weekend during which my dad had been taken ill - due to that and other things on my mind, I completely forgot that it was bank holiday and to check that my route was running. Obviously it wasn't so I calmly explained to the staff that I had messed up and asked for help and they advised me on another way to get home, which I followed and which cost me extra money, but at least I was safe and well. A few extra quid doesn't really matter in the end as long as you arrive safely at your destination and it obviously wasn't the staff's fault.

i travel alot more than most. both on low cost airlines and full service airlines (including on of the "great" world airlines). Trust me, everyone on the LCC flights handle things way better than those on full service airlines. just a very different demographic.

I used to travel internationally on business. My advice to colleagues new to constant travel was 'do your waiting at the airport, not at the hotel'. If your flight is at 2 and you are all packed at 10 - go to the airport then'.

I used to stay very calm and use very subtle sarcasm to win. And I always did without arguing. I would always go the extra mile to help genuine, nice customers - that was the best and most satisfying part of my job.

Since watching this show I’ve learned to go a day early if I’m planning something important - like catching a cruise ship, or going to a wedding. I’m in Canada, so weather delays are very common. And I’d much rather have a delay than have a plane go out in bad weather then have a frightening nail-biting flight

Would love to see how this would pan out in the real world if you asked everyone on board the plane if they're prepared to loose their slot and be delayed by 1 hour and have to pay the costs lost in revenue due to running late... It'd just be great to go back to that couple and say either "we've asked everyone and no one wants to wait for you" or "tell you what, pay the costs made by you running late and you can get on, it'll be about £5k is that OK?"

I always get to the airport 2 hrs before departure. That way I can take it easy checking in, and then have a snack and roam around the departure hall shops etc. until it’s time to go to the gate. No hassle, no fuss and travel with a smile.

More often than not, they're *speculators* with a money making proposition or idea, and little-to-no financial backing to make it happen. e.g. Today you wouldn't call Steve Jobs (if he were still alive) or Bill Gates entrepreneurs. Forty years ago, however, when they were working out of their garages and marketing their respective products to potential investors... they were the absolute definition of entrepreneurs.

For me, it depends on the airport I’m leaving from. Luckily, my local airport is smallish, and you really don’t have to be there 2 hours in advance. One hour is plenty. Only 4 gates! And there’s never a line. Parking is right across the street from the entrance also. No shuttle necessary.

I think a big flaw with the airlines is that they give you a flight time but the important time is the time when boarding ends. The only flight I ever missed was a connecting flight that a friend had booked that left us without enough time to get to the next gate in a huge busy airport. We got another flight 3 hours later and we’re on our vacation.

We got stuck in 2hrs of traffic on route to the airport but I still made the flight (only just as I arrived 1 min before bag drop closed) but I made it because as per usual I left the hotel 4 hours early. Because the paperwork we had gave departure times in GMT/Zulu, but we were departing from Florida, 5 hours behind GMT time, so thinking we got to the airport 3 hours ahead of the flight like normal, we ended up arriving at the airport 8 hours early :S)

I always go 3 hours before my flight. So if the flight is at 3pm, I'm leaving the house at 12pm. Check normally closes 1 hour before departure but I always check in via the airlines app 24 hours beforehand. Rather leave a bit early in case of emergency or delays in traffic than miss my flight.
