Watched this (and several other videos) months ago but was too scared to do it. Ordered this product but finally go too many spots it was ruining even stuff at f5.6. Plucked up the courage and did it. These things are AMAZING. I had upwards of 10 dust spots which were cleared with a little solution (less than used here) and only one swab. Best way to do it though as others have also suggested. First take a picture of the sky at F16-22. Bump up the contrast in post and you'll clearly see how many spots you have. Clean as per instructions. Then take the same photo again and compare. Can't believe this was so easy and effective. Won't hesitate next time. Thank you mr Mafia!

Watching this video just saved me €75!!!!!!! My local camera store wanted €99 for a sensor clean. So I ordered the cleaning kit for €25, watched your video a few times and then the clean just took me a few minutes and I'm absolutely delighted with the outcome. My Sony A6000 is perfect again. Thanks so much for this video :)

Good Day Arthur, You released this video over 3 years ago so question is. Would you change any of your procedures here or do you still stick with same process?
@magicalsnek4 жыл бұрын
I'm not the one asked, but the theory on sensor cleaning hasn't changed since, this is also the way any lab is cleaning your sensor if you let them do it. Be careful on cameras with IBIS since there the sensor is not fixed and thus wobbles around - use less pressure when cleaning it.
@nord75564 жыл бұрын
Also get good quality swags, many swabs leave an adhesive like layer after cleaning which can only be seen through a magnifying glass.

can i swab the lens even if i don't have the liquid solution? is it same for the lens? my NEX 5T got a little bit of dust. hoping for your response thank you
@michaeljk90335 жыл бұрын
Lenses are different. Many high quality lenses have rare earth coatings and they can be damaged by certain chemicals and too much pressure as these coatings are usually soft. If it is dust, just blow it off. Always use a ND filter over a lens to help it stay clean.
@nightcoder5k7 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if you could just squeeze the bottle instead of shaking it to get the drops out. I used similar cleaning kit before for removing a smudge. For a stubborn speck of dirt that doesn't come loose with a rocket blower, I use a Q-tip and flick it off carefully.
@Thunderbird13377 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention how to test if your sensor is really clean or not: Take a photo at very small aperture (f/22) of a very bright and evenly area (clear sky). Then make some minor picture adjustments (very high contrasts etc.) and you will clearly see all the dirt spots on your sensor which are not visible by just looking at your sensor at all. By the way: At the beginning when I started with my A6000, I didn't know that the sensor is sensitive, and I cleaned it a couple of times just with ordinary cotton swabs and windows cleaner. And the result was fine as well. The sensor is not as sensitive as you think. Some time ago I read a very interesting article of someone who cleaned his sensor with all kind of different materials and nothing happened to the sensor at all. But these cleaning swabs shown in your video are always the best and easiest way (but quite expensive unfortunately).
@jamesrees89447 жыл бұрын
One of the things I do is take video at small aperture of the sky outside and move the camera left right up and down and any dust will really show up on a clear bright day. I found this faster and easier to spot than a photo because the video moves around and the dust spots will stay in the same spot.

Great little tutorial. I made the mistake once or twice of using a microfiber cloth to clean the sensor, and ended up putting 2 small hairline scratches on the sensor that won't come off. Luckily, they're not noticeable in pictures and videos, but I can see them on the sensor. I purchased this cleaning kit on Amazon (thanks for the link) and cleaned some smudges from my sensor last night, and it looks like new again aside from the 2 small scratches. On drop and once swab was sufficient for my sensor. Thanks again!

One point about cleaning kits is check it's the right width for your sensor. I've been waiting weeks for an ebay purchased kit from China for my NEX-6, which said it was suitable for Sony cameras. Just realised it's for micro 4/3 so the swabs are 12mm wide, the APS-C sensor just under 17mm. Ideally they should be the same width so no risk of a 'tide mark' or having to use up two swabs instead of one. Just used the right sized kit from local camera store instead, and got rid of 3 spots and colour and contrast have definitely increased a bit.

Looking at the dirt on your sensor, knew it from first second that it is not going to be cleaned with any kind of dry method. As for "Wet" cleaning method, not sure why you said "Not to use Alcohol solutions" for sensor cleaning and where did you read / heard of it? I can bet the solution you bought and used in this video is either a near absolute Ethanol, Xylol or one of the other kind of alcohol solutions.

@kinman19047 жыл бұрын
Hey Ehh. I purchased the Sigma 19mm f2.8 just before Christmas which now use predominantly over the kit lens. Considering it doesn't have a OSS it remains pretty sharp on most occasions I've used it in. Granted in low light it will struggle a little. For its price, £120, it's a great addition. Can't comment on the 30mm as I purchased the Sony 35mm f1.8 which it's amazing, in my opinion, in low light as it's a fast lens. Great for portraits. I used it at a Xmas party indoor and got some great pics without flash. Great for candid shots. The Sigma 30mm is slower and has no OSS either so it won't be as good I reckon. But for its price and as a step upwards, away from the kit lens, it too would make a good step forwards for you. I personally chose to purchase a 35mm before a 19mm as my first prime lens as I was finding I was using my kit lens more at its zoom end than its wide end when indoors. But now use the 19mm as a go anyway lens and switch up when needed. So now that I've probably confused you more I just want to add that the Sigma 19, 30 and 60mm lenses in their Art collection have had great reviews. I didn't know about them till after I purchased the Sony lens. Would I have brought Sigma instead? Possibly. If cost is a factor then they are great lenses but it's about compromise. If they are a means to get you to take more photos and improve your techniques then they will be well worth the money.
@heyehh80937 жыл бұрын
Kin Lee Thank you so much for your answer! Sony SEL35mmf1.8 seems an excelent lense, but it costs too much for me :( Thats because I want to buy a Sigma. But only two questions: Sigma 19mm is good for landscapes and portraits also? And does it has good quality image, even more than kit lense? Thanks again!
@kinman19047 жыл бұрын
Hey Ehh As a Prime lens it will be sharper than the kit. I thought that without OSS it would not be good but haven't really had an issue. I suppose at f2.8 it's slightly faster than the kit which means faster shutter speeds and reducing some shake. Like you money is a constraint and if I read more about the Sigma I would have probably just got both of them and saved some £££. PS. I found the Sigma 19mm good for landscapes. Some barrel distortion but not too bad. For portraits you may find you need to get closer to the subject. The 30mm will give you better blurring of background (bokeh) that looks good in portraits.

I did cleaned my a6000 sensor. My tested method is better (your method is also very good.) I recommended 100 ISO and f22 shoot the blue sky or anything bright blue instead of white so it will help you find more spots. Why blue? Because we all shoot at the sky and outdoor. That cleaning DIY is good. Just remind for anyone who are newbie need to make sure to check sensor liquid if its non-flammable which mean you can bring it at airplane. I bought two liquid sensors are Eclipse Sensor Cleaning Fluid (flammable) and Aeroclipse Digital Sensor Cleaning Fluid (non-flammable travel safety.) Last, cleaning your lens (different method cleaning it) before put it on. :)

LJCH4E not everyone lives under blue skies(rain/cloudy) plus taking pictures looking up has a higher chance of dislodging particles(in the lens/camera) onto the sensor. My sensor was perfect. Then i was shooting the ceiling and that's when it happened. Next shot had large grey dirt/dust spot. After that the censor was like a magnet for particles. The air bulb just did not remove enough of the particles. The in camera cleaning didn't do much either.

Works better on models with ibis, on models without it's as much use as a chocolate teapot.

What about the a6500 with its ibis?

Run the cleaning mode on the camera, once it's finished a message comes on the screen that says you can now clean manually. This is IBIS locked in the place, you DO NOT turn the camera off and you clean it while this message is displayed. Once finished, turn off the camera, put lens on, and turn camera back on.
