So to clear it up about the copying other tattoo artists work, it's heavily frowned upon in the world of tattooing, majority of tattoo artists will refuse to tattoo you if you come in with another tattoo artists work as reference. However any other images you find online of just the image itself, not pictured tattooed on another person, they'll happily take that as reference.

Well tbf I don’t think its as strict as that - a reference is assuming it’s just an inspiration (same style or overall vibe). Ofc copying a design straight up is frowned upon, but using existing tattoos as references to what you want isn’t a problem

The nice forest scene with the machinery in it is probably a commentary on deforestation, or something along those lines. It's certainly a conversation piece. Oh, and they always shave the place you're getting a tattoo, even if it doesn't look like there's hair there. Not 100% sure why, but probably to ensure no hair getting in the way of the needles placing the ink into the skin, so the colour & lines are uninterrupted. And yeah, I agree that tattoos can look quite odd when they're under a thick layer of hair.

tattooing a banana is a common practice among aspiring tattoo artists. their skin is most similar to human skin (though completely different) among other fruits and vegetables. good quality fake skin for practice is expensive, so many people start with bananas or pigskin because the tattoo machine, ink, needles etc. are so expensive that they can't afford another expense. I also started with tattooing on bananas. :)

@@capybaracake their skin is too hard so you have to press harder when tattooing which for many reasons is not a good practice when tattooing human skin. they are also oddly shaped and have no even slightly flat spaces. but i'd place them as second best option.

it’s actually quite frowned upon by tattoo artists to directly copy a piece from another artist. it’s just kind of taboo and most people feel that you should change something about the tattoo to make the design unique to you. (obviously this only applies to concepts that someone has spent a lot of time thinking of and being invested in and not generic things like an arrow, clock, rose, etc.)
