artie is great and he just announced i believe on november 6th or sometime right around then that he is going to real inpatient rehab =) in a way he never really has before, you could see that he’s just over it and wants to just get better :( cuz yeah i love artie lange he’s such a naturally hilarious dude and never flinched at an opportunity to help out whoever he could :/ even letting super creepy people like ass napkin ed sell backstage passes to weird seedy people (passes that promised a meet and greet with artie hahahahah) without even asking for a cut, only cuz it would help the creepy fucker out xD hell of a lot more generous than i would be

To all the Sam haters: notice how he isn't Opie. Guys are talking in depth about addiction and Sam stfu like he should. No phone call cut in. No comparing their struggle to his stupid life. Sam stands back when he should. Bravo

Fuck Sam. He's terrible. "But he's not Opie" does not mean that Sam is good in any way, shape, or form. Stands out of the way? Yeah, no shit. He doesn't know Artie and both Jim and Vos do. And, oh yeah, Jim and Vos are both in recovery and have actual life experiences. You expect a guy who eats like a toddler and has never had a drink to chime in during Artie's harrowing tale of having a heroin- and cocaine-filled abscess...?

Heroin has made me do things I NEVER would have done without using it. I stole cars, robbed stores, houses, people & would steal everything that wasn’t bolted down. It’s resulted in alotta jail, and an open heart surgery, and I’m only 33 yrs old. I’ve been clean for 4 months, and I’ve already got a job, car and have saved a couple thousand dollars legitimately. I COMPLETELY understand what Artie is going through, and it’s the worst pain in the universe. I love you bro!✌️

Josh youare I lowered my dose VERY gradually. Started with taking 5mg of xanax a day, would only shave off .25 of each dose every 2 weeks. Eventually whittled down to taking .50 every other day, and that's when i took the plunge. No withdrawals no seizure. So it took a long time but persistence paid off.

I think Vos definitely caught him. The old incoherent "it's laziness" and "it's the business" and "I'm worried about my show" are trademark Artie dodges, and the callbacks to L.A. lipglosskitten26 I like the way u put it, bout the demons he's been hiding comment...Heroin is tough man, and I get some people don't sympathize or understand, and think it's an addicts decisions etc. But I know it all to well, and to see Artie struggling breaks my heart, because anyone who's intuitive, and followed him on Stern, knows he has a big heart, and genuinely likes to put people first and help them. If it wasn't for the heroin, I honestly believe he would've married Dana, and he knows it. He lost a lot and even tried to hide his issues, because I believe he's that selfless, like he doesn't wanna bring people down around him, so he hides it. I hope he gets it together finally, but i'm a too practical,so i won't give my honest opinion on if he ever will at this point....

I didn’t know Art was in such a delicate state and so recently clean when I clicked on the video. It’s pretty damn sobering to me, as I’m struggling with my own demons right now. Prophetic even. I had been watching clips of young 90s Coke Artie and present day clean and healthy survivor Artie. I hadn’t seen him so deep in the aftermath before, with the dragging voice and twitchy movements. Recovery is a dreary and ugly thing when it’s first born. I see now that I needed to see him this way to learn that Recovery blooms into a brilliant and wonderful thing if you take it serious and realize it’s your own fucking life on the line. I root for you Art. You’re a survivor, and you’re quickly becoming a hero to me ❤️

A good friend of mine had a *VERY BAD* heroin problem that was costing him roughly $1000 a day. Yeah, it was no joke bad towards the end there. His parents own a large trucking company and he was reliant on that job for his habit. Everyone had their suspicions something was up but no one really knew the extent of his problem. One day he collapsed on the floor and it turns out he needs emergency open heart surgery to fix a birth defect. So they wheel him into the operating room and they begin to induce anesthesia and the doctor tells him that he'll be out in seconds, but nothing happens LOL. They're literally injecting him with Fentanyl and it wasn't enough. The doctor eventually figures it out and said the dose of Fentanyl he had to use was the largest he's ever administered.

I look at artie and my heart breaks it reminds me of my old self back in the 1990s i was hitting the bong almost every day and i didn't take care of myself, i gained weight, my room was a mess and my parents sat me down after they told me they smelled marijuana in my car when my dad borrowed it. i mean jeeze, drugs are a hell of a thing they bring so much chaos, i went to class and my shirt was on inside out the whole time and didn't notice until somebody pointed it out to me

Heroin (or any opioid) is such a doozy to get off. Just like Artie said, the boredom just gnaws at your soul once you're past the physical stage of an opioid addiction. Finding things to fill your time that you actually enjoy doing more than dope... that can take so long. Sadly so many addicts begin to feel that there's nothing in life greater than dope. They get to a point where they feel they've already destroyed their life and it's pointless to stop. They get into a vicious defeatist attitude and they begin to rationalize their own slow suicide. The, 'fuck it' attitude. The, 'I'll just use until I die." attitude creeps into all dope addicts minds at some point. Fighting the urge to just succumb to being a hopeless junkie goner can be exceedingly difficult.

Franchise... I hear you. Jail is the greatest place to kick, but the most uncomfortable place to kick. It gets the kicking part done in record time because you literally have no choice. You can't rationalize a reason to use. You can't play games with yourself. You just have to do it. And one of the hardest things about kicking is of course willpower. Jail removes the entire willpower aspect, since you have no freedom in jail. In jail the constant worry about actual physical violence at any moment with the other apes... the noises and smells and awful sights... the constant drama... it keeps the body on a steady adrenaline drip. Adrenaline is a very under-rated but excellent chemical that has the power to temporarily relieve all withdrawal symptoms. You won't be feeling dopesick when you're scared shitless about some gorilla wanting to pound your face into the ground for looking at him the wrong way. During those frightening moments in jail, you aren't sick. And on the other side of adrenaline, when it's associated with good things, for example: When the dope man finally calls and says 'i got it'... every addict knows how suddenly you get a great jolt of energy and happiness. In fact, in a weird way, the greatest joy addicts receive is when they know they got their fix. It's the getting part... Once you're on the couch nodding, the fun is over. There never was any fun, of course. But the only sense of emotion from an addict seems to come when your connection calls or texts you with good news, especially when you've been getting sicker and sicker. Then the good news comes in. He's got your fix and he'll be there in 2 minutes. THAT is the greatest rush of emotion the addict gets. It's pretty pathetic. All us junkies know that, too. The point is adrenaline makes withdrawals much easier. And jail keeps your body on a light but steady stream of adrenaline. Sitting alone at home in a dark room just tossing and turning with every rumble of your stomach and not having the energy to walk to the bathroom or the fridge... those are the hardest times for the dopesick junkie. Sure, you're home and safe. But it's absolutely awful. Adrenaline! It helps withdrawals immensely and nobody talks about that.

ImANiceGuy: It saddens me that methadone and Suboxone (and now a derivative of Suboxone, Vivitrol) are the only things doctors can prescribe for opioid addiction maintenance. A doctor should be able to prescribe whatever works for that person, including any of the opioids available. It shouldn't be limited because then addicts just stay on the streets. Basically, the world would be much safer for every addict if Joe Patient could just be totally honest with his doctor. "Doc, I'm an addict. I hate Suboxone. Can you prescribe me enough of the opioid I actually prefer so I don't have to succumb to buying dirty shit powder in little glassine baggies from some sleazy loser on the street at 50x its actual cost?" "Doc, I'm already an addict, but can you work with me so at least I don't also become a dead broke addict?" I support my idea of 'soft legalization' of all drugs. They would be de-criminalized, for one. Nobody should have to worry about having their livelihood and chance for getting a decent job destroyed just because they were in possession of drugs for personal consumption. All those laws do is make a junkie a marked person. It's just a scarlet letter. It deters nothing. It just further puts a junkie in a hole. I don't believe drugs should be openly sold at every 7-Eleven. When we speak of legalizing drugs opponents to legalization immediately think that's what we advocate. Of course not. But I do believe the government should ease up with the DEA's and FDA's rules regarding drugs and a doctor's prescribing powers. A doctor and patient relationship should be sacred. Anything those two decide should be allowable because a patient and his doctor should be the only 'authorities' over a person's body.

Franchise: I'm right where you are. I use but I refuse to let myself slip back to abusing. I no longer will use to the point where I'm constipated for weeks straight. Now I just dose myself with methadone once a week. That's all. Of course most people take methadone daily. So a weekly dose is hardly a major dependency. And at this point, after abusing 20 OxyContin 80s a day or 4 or 5 bundles of H a day... A weekly dose of methadone just to take the boredom away is nothing. I have no desire to be completely sober just for the sake of sobriety. I only stopped abusing dope because it's obviously unhealthy. But when you take a low dose of opioids, it's fine physiologically speaking. Tylenol is worse for the body than a pure opioid. Opioids aren't really that unhealthy if you can manage to never abuse them. Of course that's the tricky part. It's very difficult to have an on and off again affair with opioids. They tend to completely take over. But it can be done. And many people do it. I've been doing it for over 2 years now. I haven't shot or snorted anything in over 2 years. And methadone keeps me from having any desire to do those reckless things. But the worst abuse of all is mixing drugs. Most deaths attributed to opioids is usually due to a mixture of drugs, like benzos. Anyway, good luck. PS: Yes, opioids does something to the brain's relationship with alcohol. Wherever alcohol hits the brain to cause us to love drinking... opioids totally hijacks that. I used to be an alcoholic. I drank daily. I started with opioids and never really drank again. I completely swapped addictions. Hey, it's better than having both addictions. And nobody gets violent and beats their kids or wife or girl on pain pills. Booze is the worst drug of all. But it's weird how most opioid addicts don't really drink. I guess the chemicals compete for the same receptors in the brain. Who knows.

I've been addicted to opioids since I was 17, now 25 about 9 months ago I lost my leg to heroin from Compartment Syndrome during an Overdose.... I'd like to say that I'm completely clean now but I am heavily dependent on Methadone and I am grateful for it's existence because otherwise I would not be here. I started using heroin for the first time heavily after I got off Methadone for the first time to cope with the withdrawals (obviously I should have continued the treatment), then months later I'm living in a major metropolitan city at the age of 22 down the street from open air drug markets.... I never stole for my habit and did everything I could to mitigate it effecting relationships by only using alone and always being alone... anyways the point of this comment is to say not everyone can get by just on AA, that program isn't for everybody, for some people it can cause more harm then good, and I'm one of them. If you are heavily addicted to opioids intravenously then Methadone is your best bet for the time being, don't let anyone tell you you aren't doing better because you're on MMT because you'll be a hell of a lot better than if you go cold turkey and try to go to meetings everyday.... If you aren't an IV user but have an opioid problem you can't kick Suboxone/ Subutex usually works... again, don't take anything anyone says to you at a meeting too seriously... especially when you are mentally weak i.e at the beginning of recovery... it can very easily fuck your life up way worse then if you stayed home in your own head or even copped some pharmaceuticals to deal with the pain of wd's.... in the words of the late great MCA, "I trust myself and fear no one else". If you have a problem and want to talk, comment below and I'll post a kik number or something/// peace///

It's always whatever plays on your mind that makes you want to abuse stuff. I beat addictions by relegatng those thoughts below something that bascially insults them, like if I think about friends that turned into nonces and heroin addicts I play Super mario or surf some horrible R18 porn. So for 30 mintes i say fuck off to al those negative energies, then you can be strong over it and help others :) disclaimer: this probably doesn't work for everybody
