yes!! thank you for this podcast! Imho this was a fascinating discussion & presented very sound insights on the topics. edit: also want to add that I felt the discussion had remarkably good energy. Also the host and guest were amicable & respectful, with a hardly noticeable seam between listening and presenting ideas/questions. I think this allowed the discussion & knowledge presented to go to exceptional breadth & depth.

Fascinating discussion! In particular I enjoyed how Joscha took the opportunity to inject his insight into the current debates on AI and the stifling of information that has become normalised in our media, the analogy about not stopping making sharp tools because children could cut themselves was spot on! Thank you Joscha and thank you Ted.

If a baby's eyes capture 10 images per second for 12 hours per day, the brain is trained on 4.5 billion images each year. Not only that, but these images come with correlated streams of sounds, touch perceptions, taste perceptions, internal sensor data (such as blood sugar levels, temperature) and it's owns reflective and instinctive reactions. In addition, the baby gradually develops ways to intarct with the environment, which allows it to combine autoregressive learning with reinforcement learning. That's an amount of raw training data comparable to what is used to train GPT-4, even if sensory perception for a baby is probably much more repetitive.

Computable? If-because the Universal General Intelligence, naturally occurring quantisation is Analog ONE-INFINITY Singularity Eternity-now Interval and what you think you see is all you get, what is left to compute? Anyway, no cloning means you can never get precisely what you think you want. Funniest video I've seen in ages, thank you.

Imagine you are a self sufficient eternal equation but you want more so you begin to deconstruct and reconstuct yourself in as many ways as computationally possible..

We should automatically defer to the opinion of “experts” or consensus panels who are supposedly guided by the “science” This did not work so well in the pandemic. I think one of the most useful roles of AI would be to provide a synthesis of the relevant data and strongman arguments for both sides of an issue. This information would be available to all. Then the medical provider can make their recommendations to the patient. But in the end it must be the patient who decides what form of treatment if any, they consent to undergo.
