According to NATO doctrine, the order "Fire for effect" is given when ranging and adjustment is satisfactory and is the order to begin the full fire mission. Slight slip in terminology, but an awesome video. I'd love to get involved in some arty teams

Thanks for the info! I didn’t know that. Super easy to get involved with them. Let me know if you need help finding one! Cheers!

No problem! It's as simple as the artillery spotter going "Okay, we're dialed in, fire for effect, 5 rounds" or whatever I haven't played the game since 2018 but I'm reinstalling it this weekend and hoping to get some of my old friends in to play again
@karlbergstrom2888 Жыл бұрын
That was my exact thought - "why are they doing it the opposite way?!"
@Glorymoon97 Жыл бұрын
@@karlbergstrom2888 I honestly find that Foxhole players tend to do things completely backward and refuse to change it because of reasons.
@aenorist2431 Жыл бұрын
This is funny, I have been in a great many teams of artillery, and every one has either not used IRL terminology at all, or the correct one (the vast majority, as Foxhole is full of nerds). I get a lot of "fire one - add / subtract azmth - fire one - on target, fire for effect / fire salvo / fire all" depending on circumstance.

Just played Arty the first time for an hour. Me and another rando manning a 120mm each and blasting away while the leader of a small arty squad made the spotter. He kept us perpetually updated. "You've just leveled an enemy trench!" "You're hitting the crowd just infront of their forward bunker! I've seen a medic fly!" "Ally rockets just joined in, the enemy can't fix their stuff." "Keep firing, gotta get rid of an enemy partisan. How's the stock of shells looking?" "You've just cracked an enemy tank!" "Cease fire! Colonial troops entered the enemy line, you've done well. And you loaders, too."

"Fire for Effect" is an order given when the artillery has zeroed in on their target and then rain hell.

Errors: - This is excluding Mortars which is the lightest class of arty. - Light Arty and Field Arty are the same class, and are faction dependent - "Fire for effect" or "Hammer Down" is normally used to mean fire as fast as you can, not ranging - (?) does not include rocket arty. (?)
@RobertLovesGames Жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting me know! Rocket arty I think is going to need its own video. Cheers!

Fire For Effect means your gun is on target and doesnt need anymore corrections and can fire to destroy the target... AKA For Effect

“As long as you’re within 5 millimeters you’ll be fine” XD Love that. I play a bunch of 40k, so I make the same mistake.
@TSaurs11 ай бұрын
As someone who has been in the artillery battery, fire for effect is a call given once you are satisfied with the impact site. Meaning you don’t adjust the gun. Fire for effect means “release the Kraken.” It’s often right after 2-3 ranging shots. Usually, a double direct hit is instant “fire for effect.” “Danger close” means you are shooting into friendly. “Check fire” is the same as a cease-fire. I’m fire. I’m missing some terms since it’s been a while since I was on a gun line, but yep. I noticed someone posted the nato doctrine definition so that is that too.

been as a spotter for countles operations i call this a decent tutorial video however fire for effect is when you unload all shells as fast as possible you normally call out to gunners to fire 2 or three shots for rangeing shots first second the arty calulator is a recent thing added,and therefore i used to look at the map ingame and work off the grid system i still go by this way as i see it far quicker to use and im allready accustomed to it

Great video tutorial. Good explanation, entertaining and structure. Some minor errors which have been pointed out already. Two things I'd like to add is storm cannons which fall into its own category (not lumped with the 150mm) since they are superweapon level threats and can fire cross region and mortars which weren't mentioned. Thank you for the rundown! 😁

You also forget one of the most valuable and seemingly least used effects of artillery on many fronts. Destroying the enemies moral and will to fight. Your single gun might not destroy any of their buildings but if you keep killing the infantry over and over again people will leave making your teams push easier.
@AuleileiMMA Жыл бұрын
I was a forward observer when I was in the US Marines and its kinda funny hearing how artillery works in games. We would say fire for effect only when we have adjusted rounds on target. I wonder how that lingo made its way into the game. This looks fun.
@RobertLovesGames Жыл бұрын
That's a cool fact to know! I'm pretty quite a few players in Foxhole have some kind of real life military background so I'm sure they are telling all us civilians how to make the callouts ha
@CazEloc-zj6js6 ай бұрын
Just an fyi, “fire for effect” is the command given after the spotter has corrected the fall of the shell to the position where he/she wants it to land. The call “fire for effect” means singular spotting shells are no longer necessary and it’s now time for the battery to fire repeatedly and en masse onto those coordinates to bring about the desired “effect”. Generally that desired effect is the interruption, forcing to cover, or annihilation of the enemy within those coordinates.

Thanks for letting me know! I have heard that before and always forget ha.
