As a lifelong NYer, I don't know if we can be called the gay capital of the world. But we're definitely you there. It's Stonewall that give NYC an edge. And the theater, dance, fashion and art scene, which attract a lot of gays. Many other places also have large gay populations, e.g. San Francisco, but we have the industries to keep attracting them from outside.

seeing nick and ant was classic. I was born in suburban NYC so yes, gay cap of the world. Honestly tho it is the stonewall riots in the late 60s that puts it in first place. Add in West Village and the Village People back in the 70s and it was already becoming a gay mecca. SF however is a very very close 2nd. Toronto, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles and Montreal are all runner ups and they are all impressive in their own ways. Nowadays however there are many other places that are just as great from Bangkok to Mexico City to Austin to Berlin and London and the list goes on even in rural areas. However, there are still many places where we are not welcome such as Dubai, Kyiv, and Kenya but there is always hope. Last of all is the progress made recently in Asia specifically the Far East from Manilla to Soeul to Shanghai and Tokyo. It is great to see the progress being made. Thanks Art..

How can you forget Taiwan, which recently became the first Asian region to legalize same-sex marriage? With its British influence, Hong Kong has always gay-friendly as well. But I will give special recognition to MLK for diversity and inclusion as well as the Lambda society at the death camps in Germany during WWII. We can never forget the past.
