I've been watching woodworking videos for a few weeks now as I start getting into it. Your humble approach is such a breath of fresh air from the cookie cutter "influencer style" channels. Keep doing you and don't conform! Also, this might be my first comment on youtube.. ever..

Thank you so much for those kind words brother 🙏 One of my goals when starting this channel was to do exactly that. Nearly every channel I see is exactly the same, and it's unfortunate because there are a lot of people who want to get into woodworking but might be turned away by the superficial mindset in a lot of videos.

Whenever I spill oil in my shop, I immediately throw sawdust on top of it. The sawdust will soak it all up. It helps that there's always a layer of sawdust on my floor too haha

Man, finally a channel that i can relate to. I see no Festool in your shop, i see a jobsite tablesaw, i even see a Wen bandsaw. Shoutout to Wen! No Bessey parallel clamps. I absolutely love it. You also go about your approach to making the cutting board the way i do too. Do you have an Instagram i can check out? I am @b.n.c.designs

Thanks for the humble approach to woodworking; it’s definitely a breathe of fresh air! I do have a question about clamping.... no matter what i do, my cutting board always comes out of the clamps with a cup in it. I’ve tried reverse clamping, I’ve tried cauls but nothings seems to help. Any a suggestions?
@LittleBearWoodshop
@LittleBearWoodshop 3 жыл бұрын
Without being there to see it, that sounds like it could possibly be an issue with your table saw blade being ever so slightly off (if you're doing rip and glue boards). Even if you're off by a tiny degree, over the course of X amount of strips it'll add up and could create a cup. I'd make sure your saw is properly tuned first (or jointer, if you're using one), and from there the best thing is to clamp both top and bottom. I start my end clamps with hardly any pressure. Just enough to keep the boards from moving. Then add your top clamps in the center and tighten those first. That'll push any cupping downwards, and then you can lock it all in with the power clamps.

at the 17:50 mark on the miter saw you cut down about an 1/8th of the thickness of the board and then go full. Is that to avoid chip out?
@LittleBearWoodshop
@LittleBearWoodshop 3 жыл бұрын
It is, yeah. Makes for a smoother cut through the rest of the board as well

@@LittleBearWoodshop thanks so much. New to all this. My first build was just my work bench out of pine. Mainly used a 10" miter saw. Had a lot of chip out. Now looking to get real projects done
@LittleBearWoodshop
@LittleBearWoodshop 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah chip out is an unfortunate thing for sure. Can be mitigated pretty well though. If you don't already, get yourself a decent 60-80 tooth blade for your miter saw. That'll help a lot. And a zero clearance insert (easy to make if you can't find one for your model saw). That helps tremendously with bottom side tear out.
