Really nice work, mate. And to all the people that say you can't dry brush space marines, I say "Lol" you're just doing it wrong. I think a lot of painters are stuck just thinking there is only 1 style of dry brushing, and haven't evolved with the times. Dry brushing is not only for highly detailed areas now, and doesn't have to be "chalky" You guys have done wonders for the painting world.

Looks amazing! A couple of questions if that's ok: 1. I notice you don't use gloves - does stipling not show up finger grease as you might see on an airbrush? 2. You used an S or M series brush for the aquila highlight - does the drybrush still work for this for highlighting the gold and slighter silver? I hope you keep up the videos, they're honestly really great!
@ArtisOpus4 жыл бұрын
Hi Julian, thanks so much, dude! 1.) I always wash before starting, I *loath* anything getting between me and my minis, it feels really inorganic and, without sounding to new age screws with my zen, I want to feel the mini, I also need a good grip, and I don't like getting sweaty in the gloves, plus I can't test on my hand :D. Stippling ends up pretty dry quite fast, so it's not as much of an issue as with other techniques (unless using fluros, which dry slower - hence hairdryer :)). 2.) It absolutely does, either would be fine here!

@ArtisOpus4 жыл бұрын
Hey bud, sounds like it yeah, you want your pad only wet enough to show a light sheen of moisture on a dry finger when held to the light, also take your paint carefully from the edges on your pallet, less is better, work it in/off the brush on the pallet, test on back of thumbnail for ref - then take it to the mini :)

Hey dude - been following you for a while, even bought the brushes (no T-shirt though...) - loving every video and tutorial. Its just dawned on me, one way you might improve the videos is to get hold of a Lazy Susan and just showcase the model a little better at the end. Will help to take your production value up a notch. Keep up the excellent work - looking forward to some more. Hows about some Death Guard or Space Wolves next? ;)

Absolutely dude, we've got one I can dig out! We also need a better camera for final product stills, the video often ends up more accurate than the photos :|

@@ArtisOpus On the topic of video production, I would suggest you look in the camera when you are doing your presentations, rather than on the viewfinder screen above ;)

@@ArtisOpus I'd love to see how you paint their vehicles. I think that would be nice change compared to your other tank tutorials. Don't get me wrong, they are great, but your chosen color scheme was bright&colourful. And I get why, it showed clearly how to use your drybrushing technique. I'd love to see how you do dark, dirty and weathered vehicles using drybrushing :) Also, paintng Krieg infantry using drybrushing would be an interesting challenge, these models are smaller and scaled more realistically than Space Marines :)

Maybe a daft question, but do you clean/remove the paint from the texture palette every so often, or just re-prime it? Or just get a new one?
@ArtisOpus4 жыл бұрын
I re-prime and go again :)

If I want to paint white/bone colour Death guard with drybrushing what transitions would you suggest? And thank you for another great guide!
@ArtisOpus4 жыл бұрын
Hey dude, my pleasure! Purple base (surprise...) could be purple brown if you like, then it's quite simple really, I'm liking the AK paints currently, buff then ivory, then add white would be legit, that could be any bone colour and off-white though :)

Now that was an early premiere? Missed that 😔 I must say I love the fact you have test graffiti on you graffiti texture pad 😆 Great video though. Great looking mini again Byron love the way you describe your techniques, it makes it easy for beginners. Keep up the great work

I am going to pretend that this wasn't a dyslexic slip-up 🙄🙄🙄 was meant to be 12 hours later, apparently am/pm are still a struggle for me! Thanks bud, I went pretty in depth on this one, we got a lot of comment sin early videos about things being too baggy, so cut more aggressively, I want to do one in each series which is in depth though (space marines, vehicles, etc) so people can be referred there for an exhaustive 'all bases covered' approach :)

@@ArtisOpus Bud your approach to tutorials is really refreshing and you are very articulate in how you put the techniques across. It is rare these days as everyone is trying to demonstrate golden deamon levels of quality which, while great to look at, are simply not achievable for the majority of us painters. Your tutorials are grounded in simple effective techniques and I think that is why your subs base has increased so rapidly (I wish mine had haha) Coupled with your great quality products it is a wining combination

Question, how much water is in your dampening pad? I feel like every time I use it the brush gets too wet

1 drop, from the back of the brush, worked in with a finger :)

when i try to apply this to my eldar, they always look really dusty and the armor has some stripes on the transitions, what am i doing wrong? :)
@ArtisOpus4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you could be stippling more instead of 'whipping' to avoid streaks and soften transitions. It also sounds like your paint could be too wet/could be too much on your brush. You'll see I often remote excess on my texture palette before jumping to the model😊

It's because the technique is so aggressive, I prefer a stable base, even if it's slightly less convenient!

Drybrushing is just airbrushing without the air, and I would argue drybrushing overall when you become proficient with it and practice (recommend buying cheap kids toys and repainting them over and over) can achieve absolutely stunning results.
