When she sets the inked lino cut onto the bed of the press, she places the 'guides' around the lino (the 2 right angle / corner pieces). These corner pieces then have additional 'guides' or slots(?) on top of them which are set out to the dimensions of the paper she is printing on - these guides allow the paper to sit on top of the inked lino in the exact place each time. Once the paper is sitting on the inked surface, she removes the guides and then prints.

I did not see this question asked, so here goes... Since there is so very little yellow in the final image, why did you ink the entire lino with yellow? Most of that yellow ik will be hidden. (My guess was that perhaps little stray hit of yellow might add "interest" to the final, but I really don't notice that much in your print.) Could you not have just inked the yellow circle alone? I almost forgot to thank you for this video; it is really thorough, so thanks sincerely!

I really enjoyed this demonstration. I did note that when cutting out the blue you had to leave the lines for the black. I would have assumed that the blue blob would be just cut out but then you would have lost those black lines. This is a very important point to understand the reduction process. And I just also realised the same goes for the red and yellow. I've learnt a lot from this video, thanks.

It's interesting that KZbin suggested this to me. I'm currently doing something similar with 3d printing where each layer of plastic is a different color and builds upon the previous layers but in most cases covers them up as the reduction linocut printing covers previous layers.
@andrewnorris2 Жыл бұрын
This was very informative, and beautifully presented, however it does raise a question for me. By cutting away sections for each round of printing isn't there a danger that the artist might not perfectly register each layer, that the edges of the previous colour might be visible. I wonder why it would not be more preferable to cut a template for each individual colour, especially in this case when each colour is independent of the next. On a technical question. Did you warm up the lino before carving? It wasn't shown but I, personally, find it so much easier to carve once the piece of lino has been gently warmed up in the oven. Just a thought. I enjoyed this video very much. Thank you.
