I just posted a video about drawing with pastels and what I like about them. I think I prefer them for personal work and studies because you cannot redo things and that makes me commit. They are bold and vibrant and you cannot work too precisely which is great for loosening up a bit. A lot of my picture book portfolio and book dummies have been traditionally in coloured pencil but once I had kids I had very much the same reasons as you to work digitally. Immediate setup, no clean up, no scanning, no editing. With very little time, cleaning up little specs of scanner dust just seemed a waste of time for me. However, I understand the digital/traditional challenge. Now that I continue working on these books, I need to make it look like they are still done in coloured pencils but without the challenges that come with that. I love the textures of my coloured pencils but when working with clients having the option of quicker changes really is such a plus.

I find white paper terrible for oil pastels. An off white or toned paper works betterfor me❤

Hey Emma :) Thanks for keeping me company while I draw tonight! I was actually on my ipad editing and cleaning up a traditional image while you were talking about the pros and cons of digital 😂 I need to look into how to scan in pencil drawing better as mine always looks so flat and dull and I find I need to do a lot of cleanup. I hope you play with the neopastel more, they are so much fun. I find the best way to play with new materials is just to keep using them but not for a purpose. There are so many materials I love now that I really didn't like when I first used them! Also yay for getting back to running. i haven't run since before my holiday and I am so out of shape now. I am thinking of trying REd jan, where you run everyday 🙈

Thanks April 😁 glad to keep you company and that’s a coincidence! When I scan in pencils I always have to tweak the saturation which really helps, and the levels. That’s a good tip to play around with art materials rather than for a special project. Much less pressure 😅 I’m so pleased I can run again, I’m only doing one run a week right now. Running every day sounds fun but also impossible for me right now! Hope you enjoy it though.

LOL, I learned "frogging" from Gayna @talesfromcuckooland although I never knew the story behind it. Gayna is an amazing knitter, VERY friendly and lives in SW UK. I love her and her vlog, you might want to binge on her vlogs from the beginning. So entertaining. Anyway..... I'm not familiar with pastels, only use mine for clay projects. Hope we do get to see you put up your Christmas decorations though. :)

New to your channel and enjoyed your info. Can l ask pls, what tablet you're using here? I'm new to all this KDP business. I have a Draft of a story, no Pro editing at this stage and no artwork as yet! I'm really interested to looking into self-pub my book. I just want to be n share my Storytelling gift to the children.
