Cool documentary. Complex and interesting thoughts. Alice is carving out her own language of abstraction which is great to watch and hear about. Some of her paintings are really beautiful! thanks for making this film.

I love Alice Neel. It is so wonderful to see her descendent carrying out her creative expression in her own way.

The importance of touch, without which we become voyeurs .. a brilliant way to describe how technology has changed life from something tangible to a spectator sport, witnessed 2nd hand but not physically experienced. That will stay with me.

One of the things I love about art is how much it ignites people's emotional reactions. Take this comment section. People loving it, people hating it. Strong judgemental opinions in artistic communities is rife (particularly around painting) and I find it totally baffling. "This isn't art! This isn't good art! She should never exhibit publicly!" Spoken as if gospel. It's as though someone handed out a manual that instructed people how to react. Good art = X. Bad art = Y. No wiggle room. Black and white. It's OK not to like something, enjoying art is a very personal experience - it's the public condemnation and rage that intrigues me. People seem to get so upset by art they don't like or that doesn't align with their beliefs or way of seeing the world. I really hope there is at least a tiny bit of self-awareness when someone is judging another person's art on a public forum.

It was wonderful watching Elizabeth's lively mark making process using a brayer, her hands, masking tape, and paint brushes. Her explanation of how the paintings document a moment in time, a moment in her life, was great. The conflict between having a bourgeois childhood and her grandmother's dismissal of wealth provided context to the artist's work. Alice Neel, as I understand from watching a documentary years ago, wasn't the most attentive parent to her own children and often neglected them. She seems to have been a good grandparent to Elizabeth and her brother.

Privilege : I dont think Alice Neel was rich far from it as far as I understand. As far as I know she was a Socialist & lived a frugal life and probably gave away money to the poor/needy people around her in Harlem. Maybe Elizabeth's parents made good somehow.

Mad / sad comment based on nothingness and bias, go live in her footsteps, experience and then make a judgment comment! What a disdain human being you are!!

She is sharing an artist's life , taking us for a ride. I wouldn't trust a painter unless He or She wasn't at some level........ krazy. Love the film !!!
