To answer a question you had, it is technically possible to play as Miss Pauling in TF2, but only with a special mod installed that replaces the Scout with a model of her (IIRC a friend of mine actually made the model they use in the mod). There is (or was?) also a special PvE mode called "Mann vs. Machine", in which players fight against an army of robot doppelgangers & collect money you can use to buy upgrades in between rounds.

If you wonder "where are the women in Team Fortress 2"? _The women are in charge._ (behind the scenes) TF2's storyline (set in a batshit crazy alternate history 1967-1973 USA) not only happens in in the main game and the Mann vs Machine PvE gamemode, but also in trailers, comics, the old Lore update promo websites, item descriptions and more. The women, like the Administrator (who might be an immortal, scheming witch) whose voice you hear as the announcer in-game, her secretary Miss Pauling (who shoots people in the hear and cuts up their corpses to bury them in old min-shafts), the Heavy's mum and sisters, the Demoman's mum. And in the comics also the Australian CEO Saxton Hale's former lover who is so done with Hale's idiocy but f**ks him because his muscles and demented enthusiasm for killing everything are hot to her...

Although we do know that it was invented shortly after Shakespearicles invented America, The Rocket Launcher, and Second Storey Buildings. It wasn’t until Abraham Lincoln invented stairs that rocket jumping became the less efficient method for getting up and down multi-storey buildings (although Abraham Lincoln didn’t really grasp the full use of stairs and accidentally killed himself whilst trying to rocket jump up a flight of stairs.) I love the detail that Heavy actually has a phd in Russian litterature. He just speaks English not the best because it's like, his third language. Yeah. Nice catch about the silhouettes A great part of their designs is that they show a very clear, distinct silhouette when compared to each other. After a bit of playing, you can instantly determine what character the enemy is at the mearest glance, despite there being nine different characters they could be playing, even if its just an outline from an ability that lets you see through walls.

"My eyes are drawn to the weapon" is a perfect response as to how the TF2 mercs are designed. It's by design intentional why their upper body is more colorful than their heads or bottoms. It's because your eyes are naturally drawn to their chest that the first thing you see is their weapon and their team affiliation giving you immediate information on combat encounters.

Nothing can kill TF2. Overwatch tried to do so in 2016 and with the sequel, it failed both times and is mostly known through the offbrand of it. Then this year Concord tried to do it and become the next Star Wars, it was shut down less than 2 weeks later and the studio that made it was forced to close.

So if you actually see this character design, it means he's either bad, dicking around, or on your team(?). What I adore about TF2’s design is that it is the living embodiment of Less Is More. In an age of over-designed characters, TF2 is refreshingly simple and striking. You can tell so much about each mercenary from a picture and in-game, telling allies from enemies happens in a split second thanks to the bold colors

To answer her question about heavy's unhinged facial expressions: Meet The Heavy was one of the first In-Engine full lip-flap animations in the video game market. Before this, most video games either indicated speaking with head bobbing or just by static up and down lip flaps. TF2 was one of the first times video games had fully animated lips saying actual words in gameplay. This is why the expressions in Meet The Heavy are so exaggerated, because Valve was actively demonstrating brand new technology.
