Didn't surprise me at all. But I could not stop smiling through this whole thing. Growing up in the 90s, his songs were the soundtrack of my life. I've been a fan of his my whole life and I am so glad he is coming back. He and Strait taught me how to sing.

Garth has IT. Ever see him live, there's just enthusiasm and passion he brings that's been unmatched by anyone. Why he's the best selling artist ever! I love many other artists, but in my opinion there Garth and everybody else. We can tell our grandkids we saw The Garth Brooks Live! Cause his records are cemented. Heck the guy still sells out stadiums in 30 minutes in 2021. It's for a reason. Haters can and will hate. But he's worthy of all his success and more.

When he said he misses Haggard and Jones on country radio, he wasn't kidding!!!! Anyone who likes country music will always miss Merle and George! Sheesh, anyone remember the tune back in the 80's they did, "Yesterday's Wine"???? That was probably one of the last times you heard those two country greats on the radio.

At the 1991 American Music Awards for the tribute to Merle Haggard, Garth sang Mama Tried, George Strait sang If We Make It Through December, and Travis Tritt sang Today I Started Loving You Again. And Garth, Travis and George sang with Alan Jackson, Patty Loveless, Clint Black, Lorrie Morgan, Larry Gatlin, and the Kentucky Headhunters on Okie from Muskogee.

And Garth always gives Merl the respect and honor he deserves and Haggard hated Garth. MH said Garth wasn't real country. Said he didn't live the life or put in the time that it takes to deserve to sing the songs he sings. Garth worked as a bouncer, played in bar rooms, cheated on his wife and eventually divorced her and married the woman he was cheating with. I'm sorry Merl, but it sounds like the only thing that, in your mind, Garth hasn't done to be worthy of calling himself a country artist, like you, is to become an alcoholic, like you. But I guess we'll just have to wait for Garth to be on a tour bus and the heater goes out in the middle of winter. Then the members of the tour will have to rent a plane to take half of them to the next concert in warmth while the rest continue to freeze in the bus. Then Garth's friend, who is riding on the plane, says to Garth, playfully, "I hope your heater goes out for good." And Garth says, "Yeah, well I hope your plane goes down." And then his friends plane does go down, killing 3 great music artists. And I hope he carries that around with him for the rest of his life and even after he gets on the wagon, he still remembers what he said but now he can't climb back into a bottle to drown his pain away..., like you.

I look at this and think about his wife... all her sacrifice, all her dedication. She gave this man wings to fly, and unfortunately he did. She deserves this accolade too... just sayin'

Giovanni Socci Garth Brooks brought millions of new listeners to country music and is the #1 solo artist in the US history (ahead of Elvis Presley) and in May 2014 passed the Beatles for most albums sold in the US. He is the only artist in recording history to have 7 Diamond albums - his Double Live album went 21x platinum!! With 37 top 10 singles, 19 of which hit #1, it's really not that "unbelievable" that he made it that far. Oh, and in the 90's, he was Entertainer of the Year 6 times (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997 and 1998), so his winning this award isn't all that "unbelievable" either.

First he thought Strait would win Artist of the Decade for the 1980s, but Alabama won it. Then he thought Strait would win Artist of the Decade for the 1990s, but Garth himself won it. But guess what, the Academy of Country Music named George Strait as Artist of the Decade for the 2000s, so I guess Garth was happy that came true. But I will say two things: 1, George Strait is an Artist of a Lifetime and 2, With two years left in the second decade of the 21st Century, the 2010s, I think the Artist of the Decade should go to Miranda Lambert.
@martinkreps99464 жыл бұрын
The 2010s was actually Jason Aldean.
