You can tell him that it's an incredibly wonderful discovery and color/pigment! It just needs, IMHO, a name worthy of it. Not an easy order, but YInMn blue just doesn't do it for me. Trouble is I like the color so much that I'll most likely be disappointed with what someone decides to call it ("Oregon blue" leaves me flat). I would probably make up a lovely sounding word.

Nice joke m8 liked it

@ Brisa Chavez What joke? The guy who discovered the pigment is called Mas Subramanian, so Arthi is indeed his daughter.

3 years later and I finally have my hands on some YInMn blue, mines I got from golden acrylics. It’s sooo nice!

This blue is similar to French Ultramarine, and it's more than $40 for a half pan from A. Gallo. What's the BFD indeed!

Are you sure that was Alizarin Crimson you mixed there to make purple? Looks more like Cadmium red or Scarlet red to me.
@JerrysArtarama8 жыл бұрын
Yes, unfortunately our cameras (as great as they are) really struggle with showing some colors accurately, which for a video like this means we have to do our best to make sure we are showing the blues as true as possible. It does make the red look a lot more orange than it actually is.

ah, got it. :)

New pigments are great. I remember how excited I was when I first "discovered" the bright, pure orange and red pyrroles!

I would try it if it can be formulated for watercolour..it's exciting to discover new pigments that can be used for alot of applications...ahhhhh science I just want to hug it..have a great weekend!

This is actually a question I asked Steven at Matisse. When it becomes commercially available, he said he didn't see any reason it couldn't be used for any medium.

This is AWSOME! Blue is my dominant color in paintings, and I couldn't be happier to see a new blue pigment!
@microcolonel2 жыл бұрын
I'm gonna try putting it on the painted parts of my bike. I can get ahold of the raw pigment even though the U.S. manufacturers won't send it to you unless you are a commercial operation. Hope it doesn't interfere with the acrylic-urethane base coat resin.

What's that you say?? A new blue pigment??? This really is a BFD and I can't wait to try it out. There will *never* be too many blues!

I am really excited, my favourite colour is ultramarine blue especially the one from lápiz lazuli and they can also chemically make it, but it often becomes way darker combined with the medium. So I'm super excited because this colour seems super similar and also looks like it does not become darker, it is less harmful to the environment and hopefully it will be affordable in the future.

Mike, I love your videos!! Thank you for sharing this wonderful new pigment with us. I have seen you fight with purple on so many videos, may I offer a suggestion for your purple problem. Have you tried mixing magenta instead of red? Think CYMK. There is no 'red' cartridge in your printer, but you can print both red and purple. (The secret is that red is not a primary color, magenta is) Mix Magenta and your favorite pure blue and you get lovely pure purples every-time.

Great vid. Would love to see something on an even less commercially available pigment - vantablack. And what blacks that are commercially available that might achieve the deepest optical appearance of darkness. No, I'm not a goth.

@JerrysArtarama8 жыл бұрын
Like any pigment, when used in a watercolor it would still be "transparent," but would behave more like a cadmium watercolor, rather than a cobalt. If that makes any sense at all!

Of course, I see what you mean, and that was actually my point : I hate cadmiums ! But I love blue pigments so we will see, maybe I won't be able to resist buying it !
