I have to say I'm very impressed with that ride. I like the big bell with the deep undertones, the bow has nice stick definition as Thomas said, and the crash doesn't sound nearly as chunky as I would expect from a 3.1 kg cymbal. The cymbal is too heavy for my taste (I play a 21" Sabian Groove Ride which is ~2350g), but they really did manage to get a lot of features into that cymbal.

Is that just Craig Reynold’s prototype rebranded as the Thomas Lang ride??
@mattjoiner4145Ай бұрын
I thought the same at first too, but that bell sounds far too dry to be what Craig was looking for. Also, it seems they’ve put a lot of work into the bow sound, and I know Craig isn’t really bothered about playing the bow of the ride 😅
@nelldogcfАй бұрын
I have been fully going down the rabbit hole trying to find old videos where Craig was going through the prototypes. I don't remember any of them having coloured bells (which is probably what's giving it its dryness @mattjoiner4145 ) but its a 21 inch crashable, brilliant finish ride with a very pronounced bell...And that was the brief as far as I remember.
@TimotolasАй бұрын
And that’s how you rebrand a prototype…I got Craig’s Zildjian signature ride, great cymbal!
@regentsaquariums5692Ай бұрын
Unfortunately Z Company was kinda stingy and wouldn't ship 21 projection ride outside of the USA. Unfortunately this Thomas Lang model I think is much more interesting and cooler. Craig's ride looked like a polished brilliant bell with the look of K sweet 20 raw bell finish as in 21inch plus they only ship in mainland US only that's a bummer to me. My money goes to Thomas Lang 🤌🤌

@sarcasticguy43113 күн бұрын
Drums and cymbals are like food; it's extremely personal which sounds and tastes one likes. Unfortunately, for me, every single Meinl cymbal comes across as a glorified trash can lid. The crash sounds super generic. It sounds like something I'd hear from a digital set of drums. The high hats lack versatility. The ride cymbal pitch is too high and the bell is too pronounced. That's the problem with individual taste. Now, if Meinl was a sponsor then I'd eventually find something I like but that's because I'm not paying for them. Also, there's a half dozen decent cymbal manufacturers and the only people that have all the same cymbal brand are those with sponsors. There's thousands of different sounds out there and you aren't forced to use only one type. All your cymbals don't need to match or even be the same type of metal finish. Also, I never buy a cymbal I can't personally play with unless I'm directly replacing a (rarely) broken cymbal with the exact same product. I'm sure I drive people at stores nuts because I'll play 50 different cymbals at the store and walk out and not buy one because I don't like the sound or the feel. That's even after I've finger tapped a couple hundred and narrowed it down and now I need a stick to get a better sound. I've returned cymbals the next day because they sound different at home on my kit than in the store. Sometimes a great cymbal doesn't sonically blend with my other cymbals. It's like duotones on a piano. Played incorrectly or the wrong chord sounds awful.

@Chris_Stanley007Ай бұрын
@@mattdelany6799 Thinking people will buy musical instruments because some musician says to is a fundamental part of marketing, yes. Um, yeah, I don't think any of these things really truly matter amongst cymbal brands. I don't understand why people like him try to define what's better in a particular sound like wine tasting. What already exists out here among brands, you will get all those expected sounds. 😩🤷🏽♂️

@robbledot7290 Lol. I bet you can't even tell the "amazing difference between all the sounds." Think about it. You get the damp sounds that already is of the collection.
