Alfredo's art had dimension and movements! Far too advanced for its time! Brilliant! I discovered him when I bought He-man, MOTU in 1983! It came with an awesome mini comic book!😊

He did ALL of his own inking.
@ComicBookCovers8 жыл бұрын
His compositions are geometric instead of rhythmic, and EVERY form is delineated with detail, so Alcala's drawings have the effect of moving in slow motion. This makes him perfect for horror and grandiose period pieces, but not so much for action.
@etanick18 жыл бұрын
agreed! his style is not dynamic so his action panels are "stiff" in general. His muscular drawings did improved significantly over the many decades from looking all the Conan's works.

That's an extremely good point. I used to love being able to savor his work, so that also slows down the experience.

***** And I like him inking Kirby because of the bizarre contrast between Kirby's fast-paced rhythmic shapes and Alcala's rendering.

Yeah, Destroyer Duck was a weird kind of treasure...the king of action meets the king of detail! I loved him on things with a sense of deep time, like Conan...as the sense of ancient history really came alive. Reminds me I've always meant to hunt down his Voltar--which I think is what made his reputation initially...images I've seen from that are amazing looking.

I agree. I first saw his work inking Don Newton's on a Batman title. I thought their styles complimented each well.
