I don't like the whole concept of "just read it" either because it's just a wack way of saying "guess what will happen and gamble on what you think comes next" is a valid strategy, and I'm not with that. If I wanted to play a game of luck I would play poker or D&D. I'm not a fortune teller. Saying the key to success for a specific character in a fighting game is to be one is dumb advice. Granted, I personally don't think Juri is starving in these streets and I DEFINITELY don't like the idea of Juri getting to run through projectiles with level 2 activated (I'm sorry but she gets WAY too much damage and mixup potential with that thing to allow that), but I can agree that she should get SOMETHING to help her balance out on defense against the poke. Something tied to OD usage, or give her a safe hop forward after she kicks a projectile. Not a massive dash, but why not give her a little one to get her into that "Are you sure about that?" distance

I just started playing Juri two weeks, its hard to deal with fire balls, especially now 70% of the match ups are Gouki. I thought Juri is supposed to have easier time on fire ball as an aggresive fast character like Cammy and Kimberly.

Agree. Even her fuha stocks is not easy to time consistently, and the recovery is too long if the opponent rush in after fireball… and her bread & butter hit confirm into special is very susceptible to DI. Making her dive kick plus on block could be the easiest fix though.

Honestly, I would gladly trade some of Juri's current strengths for any of her old anti-fireball moves. Zoning is really strong in this game, so having less ways to deal with that than the rest of the cast makes too many match-ups a miserable slog to deal with.

It's only a cheesy options, not a real one. It can work, a full screen hp tatsu with PC can link into hp dp lvl 3 but that's a read and most of the time it fails and then you just get optimal comboed. It's only great when your opponent gets realllllly predictable (some jp have the same gameplan from round 1 to 6)

As a Juri main i absolutely agree with this video 100 percent. There's alot of missed opportunities to give her a bit more tools to counter fireballs. Even if you dodge it with Divekick its not promised to work as they can easily counter you before you even hit them. Getting something like her parry from SF4 would work out perfectly or even that move from SFV you mentioned. 💜

Since the beginning, I’ve wanted her divekick to have multiple trajectories like it did in SF4 and SFxT. Divekick having part of its lower hurtbox be projectile invincible would be a lot of help too. But if we can’t have any of this, yeah, a new move might be the only way. I miss her SF4 counter, but I’m partial to an adjusted SFV VS2 as an unorthodox approach as it gives her a projectile barrier like Guile’s sonic blade.

I think you're totally right and it's the reason why I dropped her. There are way too many fireballs in the game for her to be the only character that needs to deal with it at every moment of a game. So yeah, I love her in SF6 but some match ups are straight up to hard for me just because of the fire ball. I understand her low fire ball is supposed to be a good thing for her, but I think it does the opposite.

It just neutralizes the fireball war but not in her favor imo. It's slow by design so the opponents fireball will hit her before it will hit them in some cases. It's honestly a free punish in some ranges because the her fireball is to slow/far to be threatening while a heavy hadouken will hit her..... Don't even get me started on the guile match up too, I start staring with him and play to run out the clock once I got life lead lol. It's a struggle.

I feel like Juri’s Fuha stocked spin kicks should beat fireballs. Even if they don’t add a move to QCB+Punch that move could work hell even if it’s just the first kick. I’m not saying that would be the best option but damnit she needs something. She’s always struggled against fireball characters in this game and even with her having a fireball-you don’t really want to use hers against characters that just tech right over/through it. Not to mention she’s a character that relies on storing stocks to be effective. No other character in the game NEEDs their stocks to enforce their gameplan

This feels like a very decent solution since enhanced Go Osastsu is already a very committal move. Making the enhanced version either destroy or invulnerable to projectiles would mitigate a glaring weakness without making her a busted character. Since in this scenario it would take a stock to bypass a single-hit fireball, your followup options would be nonexistent unless you have three stocks to cancel into a projectile and then Enkensatsu.

I believe capcom overlooked juri as a character, not only with no unique option’s against fireballs but also with her stock mechanic. It almost like her base character is locked behind the stocks. An example of this would be like her fireball, no other character’s fireball has a cost to use but juri, even if we took a look at her EX moves why would you have to pay more bar to extend her combos if that’s the whole reason for the stocks, so you need 2 resources to extend a combo other characters can for less.

To preface, i am not the best juri who has not fought the best players, so take my opinion with a healthy pinch of salt. IMO, juri's weakness to fireballs is something she should have (to an extent), I dont belive that a character with the pressure and speed of juri should also have an exlusive anti-fireball move, I also dont think she should have none. If we were to give her anti-fireball, SA2 dash would definitely be a fair change (as it definitely looks like it should be projectile invuln), and I would seggest making EX divekick either faster or safer on block, as it really only has use in combos due to its unreliability as an anti-fireball option. Overall, I feel like juri is in a good place, and can compete with the rest on the cast, even if some matchups are painful.

Completely agree, I first picked up Juri on SFV. I liked Ryodansatdu and was gutted when it wasn't in 6. Its frustrating because in the How to Play Juri in SF6 it suggests divekick is you fireball tool but unless you read the fireball a jump its almost useless. Even if the don't put it in, enhanced Go Ohsatsu beating fireballs would be good

yeah ever since the game released people said ryu was weak as shit but any ryu that knew ryu was a zoner by spamming fireballs would win so easy against me. i literally didnt understand why until i noticed that some ryus would throw fireballs and some wouldnt i would only lose to fireballs ryus. because juri needs to get close in while ryu zoners would just keep walking backwards and spamming fireballs.

I didn’t even know she had specific anti-fireball tools in previous games because SF6 is my first. That’s really disappointing. I think making the level 2 dash fireball invincible would be really helpful (and also incentivize more people to start learning the super earlier to get a punish + setups for people throwing out fireballs)

Charcters shouldn't be perfect, more defining weaknesses is a way better design imo. Juri should have dealing with fireballs her main problem especially that she has very good buttons

Okay, so Juri is my girl, and always will be. BUUUT I’m actually okay with her not having a dedicated “move” to deal with fireballs. What I would REALLY want is 1 of 2 things. 1. Bring back all of Juri’s fireball specials that she had in USF4. Her unique fireball system in that game was so much fun. It gave her super cool combos, and made her able to rushdown if she wanted, but she was also an INCREDIBLE Zoner. Obviously this will never happen in SF6. 2. This is much more likely. In USF4, when she was in Feng Shui Engine, her NORMAL forward dash went from top 5 best in the game to indisputably best forward dash in the game. It becomes insanely fast, goes nearly full screen, and most importantly, shrank her hurtbox. This let her low profile most fireballs. The timing was TIGHT, but damn was it fun dashing under sonic booms. Buffing Juri’s normal dash while in Feng Shui in a similar way, but also adding fireball invincibility would be so fun. Side note: I wouldn’t want the initial dash when activating level 2 to be buffed if this were to happen.

I've played Juri on SF5 and SF6 and I agree, not only she is the only in the case that cannot deal with fireballs but the ENTIRE cast has moves to easily deal with her fireball on neutral. Zangief hop knee, chunli flying kick, condor spire, headbutt, blanka ball. The one suggestion that I have and it is pretty much fair is to make ex fuha stack to REFLECT any projectile back (aside from supers) giving her room to approach.

I've been playing Juri since the beta and have had hundreds of JP players complain about the Juri matchup. And in my head I always think that they have to just be bad at street fighter because there is nothing Juri can do about his zoning that doesn't have a risk. Sometimes if Juri does a drive rush she can go through his fireball because the hit activates after she passes through, but it's not consistent enough to try to do. And the amount of times I get whiff punished for trying to close the gap is insane. I do an early st.mk from a drive rush to try to close distance safely and trying to stuff out a button they press, but they just get a whiff punish st.hp and I eat 50% and am sent back to full screen with 3 fewer drive gauge bars. I really don't understand how people can justify Juri not having any tools to deal with fireballs. Even something as simple as giving her a mid fireball again would be huge so she could close the gap behind it like Chun, Ken, DeeJay, etc.

He can react to the drive rush with any projectile and hit you out of it. Long story short he has more answers to Juri's approach options than she has approach options. Maybe try playing in tournaments and seeing how a good JP player plays the matchup instead of ranked scrubs lmao

As a high level juri player myself, I would not care to listen to the negatives. The negatives come from a bunch of people who cry at not being able to adapt and get better at the game against characters they find challenging to be is juri a good character yes but unless your a juri player you don't know. Kail is correct sf4 and 5 juri had answers to fireball characters to be fair in the match up now in sf6 Capcom just completely threw the character under the bus. And lets be honest most of the people crying saying juri is to over powered are the people playing fire all characters so stop it. There is no valid reason why we're are the 3rd game in with juri and they feel the need TO KEEP CHANGING HER MOVES ALL OVER THE PLACE doing that has resulted to this fireball dilemma so I definitely second this invitation to giving juri BACK something to deal with fireballs so we are not sitting there against hado characters who spam fireball and wait for shoru on jump in making us be able to do nothing but hard read a fireball or just keep parrying. I voted from the beta seeing the changes to juri ONCE AGAIN and having to learn her again, that her medium fireball should have not been taken away but the girls whole kit CHANGED AGAIN AS IF THEY CANT DECIDE WHO MOVES TO GIVE HER but we delt with it so kails ideas for the fireball work around make sense for her kit NOW

It's clearly a balancing decision that jury is worse at dealing with fireballs than the rest of the cast, whether we agree with that decision or not. And I agree with you that jury is an outlier. But if it was like this guy says, and it's truly just "good luck" whenever there's a fireball character on screen, that would literally mean jury stops functioning in like 60% of matchups, which, obviously, she does not.

Practice your perfect parries. Practice reacting to fireballs with a jump. Hell…any jump you hit on them make sure you’re doing enough damage to make them afraid. It’s annoying but winnable.

@@BigNastyKail the thing is, last season pros like nephew considered the matchups against ken and ryu to be about even, while she was even beating jp. the only really hard matchups according to most people were against chun and guile, if i remember correctly. now luke got nerfed, jp got nerfed and in the last tournament i think i heard nephew say the luke matchup is even too. so believe me, i kinda hate playing against fireball characters right now... it is just no fun longterm and i really hope she gets her flips back man. but giving it to her should come alongside other tools for some characters to deal with juri then. because i think we don't want any character to be as strong as chun/deejay, or last season top tiers even.

Don't forget that Ryu's heavy tatsu also goes through fireball. It's slow, but at times, it can catch people off guard. And at specific spacing, it won't side switch and you can even get a DP, and by extension, SA3 off of it.

Yeah she won capcom cup, not UMA, Juri carried him I guess Btw they not only haven't given her a way to deal with fireballs they also removed the level 1 property where you could pass luke's fireball if you did it right before getting hit. This is exactly what I've been struggling with. I have pondered that if Juri had a low stance to go under with/or Ryodansatsu to go over fireballs. She only has 3 unique standing moves which I realized during WT when kitting out my avatar. I feel limited when it comes to Shotos with Juri, but I'd like more options for all matchups.

As a Juri main, the best solution what I do against playing against Fireball chatacter is, just play your opponent from close, quarter or half distance. Up close they will highly less likely to throw fireballs. Quarter distance they can but, you can just jump over the fireball to punish them. Half distance they is kind of tricky. Though if time right you can just do dive kick to punish. Hopefully they dont DP Being full screen away is just asking to be screwed as a Juri player. Most of them will just spam fireballs until the clock runs out, even if you keep parrying them if they are in the lead with health.

Ya i agreed with this since the first day of release. Ive constantly said over and over again "I hate shotos" because they can fireball spam and i have 0 ways to beat it consistently. An since shotos are the most overplayed class of characters (ken/luke season 1, now akuma season 2) it feels so much worse. Its made me sto playing for several months simply because the character I want to play loses to the most over picked characters in ranked. Gets really old constantly losing to fireball spam when they decide to play like an asshole and not fight me.

I think making juri's qcf heavy kick with stock clash with fireballs would good, the first kick would clash with the fireball and then the opponent would get hit, and to make it more consistent make the start up of it fireball invulnerable since you can only do it up close

Ankensatsu used to go over fireballs in SFV. But fireballs were so awful in that game that it didn't matter she had that but fireballs are so good in this game and they took that away when she did need it. I don't even think it's that strong if she had it here since it is unsafe without 2 stocks. But what's most annoying is that her store is supposed to nullify fireballs but that's actually the worst thing you can do since it opens you up to drive rush especially when you can just parry. They should allow you some sort of cancel after store, either into super in a fireball clash or the fuha moves. If she had this, I think she's fine if you don't touch anything else.

I would disagree regarding her dive kick. Jumping forward at a safe distance still allows to punish a fireball on reaction and helps to somewhat deter from constant spam unless you are playing against Aki. But yeah, you have to get lucky with timing in the first place for that to work. Invincibility for lvl 2 startup is also a great idea. Think it would really incentivise its usage outside of higher ranks 💜

Bro DAY ONE I've been saying this. I don't know why they stripped her of her options from sfv. Like the dive kick is fine but if the opponent relizes what your doing jumping forward half the screen away then they just get ready to dp and thats that.

I am a newbie of SF and i love juri since I played this character first time. I am diamand 2 rn , it's really frustrated and annoying that i keep struggling against to any charachter can use fireballs. Even it's just a player that don't know how to do a combo. As long as they can do fireball and dragon punch properly, it will be a really tough fight for me. Even I successed to approch him, once I hit by a reversal, I need to struggled in it again!! Im really glad someone talk about this.

My ways of dealing with fireballs: 1) Backdash and jump forward while buffering divekick. (opponent COULD chase you to take space or dash+DP if you do it too much, but most importantly it does make them respect you, pausing their barrage) 2) Level 3 reliably pulls them in from midscreen. (so they are forced to slowly back off if they wanna fireball) 3) OD saihasho. Opponent WILL pause their fireball spam and it'll be your turn, naturally. Also, SITUATIONALLY, Juri has the luxury of recovering her drive gauge more reliably while defending against fireballs. Parry pauses your drive recovery while countering a fireball with fuha doesn't. Try to parry only OD fireballs, or if the opponent is too close Parry also gives your enemy more special meter, while "fuha parry" doesn't. Of course, you have to have space behind you, so don't lose neutral. Funny how even this strat beautifully fits the "corner is death" design TLDR: You back away just to get that one opening and threaten the faraway jump-in. Even the only way to space divekick for -3 is from that distance!

On one hand I want Juri mains to suffer but on the other end the Juri match up would be a LOT more interesting if she had a type of reversal against fireballs as a Guile player myself, this was a great video showcasing this issue

OD Go Ohsatsu should be projectile invul. It would be meterless and you need 1 stock + 1 more drive gauge stock to make it safe. I do use Go Ohsatsu and OD Go Ohsatsu to contend with people outside of normal range and catch them off guard. And just because I get the hit doesn't mean I win the round. I think it would be fine to weave it into her kit than to build a brand new move. I do feel like Capcom built SF6 Juri very methodically and the issues with 6MK and HK and no projectile invul were intentional nerfs by the dev team.

I've all but forgotten that she had those moves in the past. I disagree with the Zangief part. Lariat barely has any foward Momentum and Level 2 Start up is sometimes too slow to catch zoners unless you do it almost at sweep range. You'd think that Saihasho would allow Juri to duck under Fireballs but no. And her Level 1 gets stuffed on start up by a Fireball. So not even that works. 💜

Have her ex fireball shrink her hit box and allow her to go under fireballs. But the hurt box shrink should only apply if she doesn't have a stock while she goes into exfireball.

I think looking at this shortcoming in a vacuum makes it seem worse than it is. Characters should have weaknesses and this one isn’t too extreme. She still performs well and stood in the upper echelon of characters despite that flaw which speaks to the strengths she has

Dive kick seems to be "THE TOOL" for that, might not be a great tool l but it works well enough and you can say that about everyone, not all are great but the option is there and we all need to make a read.

Allow Juri to reflect projectiles instead of negating them. All projectiles angle up except Heavy and Ex. Light goes 55 degrees up. Medium 35 degrees up. Heavy goes straight ahead or basically straight and maybe at a 15 degree angle upwards. While EX will definitely reflect right back. This won't allow her to approach easier, which apparently is what players Don't want juri to be able to do why they're so against the idea. While also setting up an actual threat for someone throwing out a fireball. She can also gain this property on specific parts of her Level 1 and he level 2 should give her her counter move. Allowing her to close the gap. Her level 1 would be able to reflect supers.

I used to use the level 1 against the fireball. The timing was short but possible with pratice. Now it's gone and I can feel the difference against fireball. And it happen with Akuma which has so string and abuse fireball.

I felt strange to my friends when i spent so much time to explain this to them. It's really frustrating to get huge damages in order to get closer to opponents with fire balls, especially Guile, Ryu, Dee Jay, or Akuma. I'm still thinking that SF4 juri was the best version of her. Capcom introduced Juri as a mix up character in SF6. But, how is she supposed to mix up if she struggles to approach her opponent?

At first I was gonna be like meh, but then I remembered besides the options she had in 4 and 5 you mentioned, I'm mad her medium and Heavy store specials could destroy projectiles in 5 but can't in 6 for some reason. I'm glad the store hitbox was more like Sf4 and definite improvement over 5 but yeah wish she could still plow through them like previously,

No joke, shotos and güile are annoying. I miss split kick. That move was amazing at fireballs punishing fireballs. Now we have dive kick back, but it's just so nish and no variations. She does need some tweeks to it to be a proper move

Here's to hoping either of those old moves return or characters get new moves in the future for situations like this or to just spruce the game up more in general. If this is not a viable option, any thoughts on any of her fuha attacks having fireball invuln? It's not a thing, but my brain constantly wants to believe that ex qcf -> lk has some form of high crush property just because of the animation of her crouching to throw the projectile.

The day I got SF6 I was telling myself who I’m going to main ? I was always a Ken player from street fighter series to now , so I chose Juri and I went through some tough stage battles but I finally understand how Juri abilities work and she a amazing but still having trouble dealing with zooming characters so far I’m still a diamond rank 4 hopefully I get to master soon plus learning the feng shui combos is challenging so I rather save it for execution level 3 lol and take my time to learn feng shui once I get my master ranking and practice on battle hub instead
