Mixing Transparent Colors Without Getting Mud (2020 Update)

Hi everyone. I decided to do something a bit different this week and kind of re-do a video from eight years ago. I say 'kind of' because this time I'll be using transparent colors.
For this demo, I'm using quinacridone gold, crimson, and magenta as well as phthalo turquoise. But feel free to follow along with what ever colors you have, just limit yourself to five colors.

Is it possible to lighten the value and keeping the transparency? I am thinking about oil colours specifically. Most (all?) whites are opaque, or so I have learned?

Charlotte.....when you start with a transparent it will stay transparent until you add an opaque color. If you want to lighten the value of a transparent just add Gamsol.

This is a great demo! I was not sure about overlaying transparent pigments, but I used a few of these in my recent paintings and they saved a chaotic mess by uniting the surface. If you are interested, they are on blog.ellecoyote.com. I hope I am not spamming, that is not my intention.
