Ian you literally saved my life!! I was in a bad situation and had a severe opiate addiction. I remember seeing your methods and your videos and I bought a pack of gray tombows, a schmincke watercolor palette as well as some fabriano fat pad hot press paper. I got my life together and now I am painting everyday as well as watching your videos. It saved me. It really did. I had a new healthy habit to focus on. urban Sketch is beautiful and inspirational. Thank you so much. Your definitely the best urban sketcher there is.

Great demo, Ian. Good review for those of us who have done some of your on-line and in-person workshops. Tip for anybody watching this: the watercolor doesn’t go well over top of the Tombow work. So if punching up the colours as he did towards the end, avoid the felt pen areas. I often do the same at end of the sketch where I want to emphasize some of the interesting colour areas.

I mean this in the most positive way possible. The way you turn scribble into such an expressive/impressive piece of art is insane. I could pick one of your pieces out of a thousand others. Every time I watch you I get out my paints. I could never be as loose as you are and get away with it! I’m a little bit envious! Cheers!

Perspective... if you are able to visualize and then put on paper perspective, shadows, etc... you can basically use whatever colors you want. Ian is able to do this.. most of us cannot!

Ian, please tell us what paper to use. When I do graphite pencil portraits, after about 6-7 years that paper turns yellow. It just made me sick. So if I get into your style, please give a name of the correct paper to use. Thank you! February 22, 2023

First of all, I really love the colors. But the Image of the bridge is not working at all. From your point of view the arches are a dense structure with various layers of elements which give an impression of a robust sturdy building. This is missing completely. Just compare the masses (dark areas) between the photo and the picture. I so not vote for a photographic Image, but the overall impression should become clear which it doesn't.
@kennethneild86842 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry but the point of urban sketch is to catch the overall personality of the subject. He has achieved that 100%. It's not supposed to be boring and uptight like most artists work. 🙄
@jenskreibach94242 жыл бұрын
I explained why the personality of the subject is not depicted in my point of view. Unfortunately you didn't answer these arguments.But it is nice to see that the artist has got admirers speaking for him. At this point I think a further discussion will not show any results or insights so I am out.
