I just came across a book my aunt left me in her will, printed by Frederick J. Drake & Co. Chicago written by F. Delamotte called "The Amateur Artist or Oil & Water Color Painting Without The Aid Of A Teacher - A Self Teaching Manual Covering All Branches In The Art Of Oil & Water Colors" (Yeah, it's a mouthful) and given as a "Special prize for drawing" to Madeline Miller a student at Abbotsford School in 1923, Copyright 1906, not a reprint, it's 118 years old as of 2024. It's been reprinted numerous times and popular among self-taught artists but I can't find any information on an original copy. It's got some slight wear on the spine but otherwise in pretty good condition and I think the cover is supposed to be blue but it's more like a camo-green because it's been on a bookshelf in the sunlight for many decades. I typed in the book title and this is the first video that popped up, unfortunately still nothing. I'm also wondering whatever happened to Madeline Miller but that's a whole other can of something.

Hello Luise Poulton. interesting to see some of the artists' books in the Marriott Library's Rare Books Collection and to hear your comments. I will be uploading videos on artists' books by Australian artists. i am interested in the difference in approach by artists from different countries to the medium.
