In an ideal fantasy version of my life, I have this at the centre of my own studio, floor to ceiling windows looking out over birch forest somewhere warm in the summer, snowy in the winter. And I know how to play it 😌 Gorgeous instrument.

Definitely the “new” and “improved” CS80!!! And I own a real CS80.

Big claim! I hope you're right.. I sold my CS50 to avoid the zero parts issue and I know the CS80 is 10x worse for issues so it would be great if this could fill the gap!

I just got mine yesterday! I've unpacked, set up, and am ready to play, and I'm intimidated just by the pure look of the thing. It’s like having a brand new Jupiter eight, and I’m afraid of it. I already have the Super Six, so I’m a bit familiar with its architecture, but it’s such a thing of beauty and massive sound that I'm just a little nervous about even touching it, strangely😮

Gaz actually gave me an idea which could be added to this instrument. (and to the Super 6) A menu setting to switch between jump to parameter, catch on parameter & scaled to parameter. (First one is the standard mode which is now already used, second parameter is catch on parameter and the third is a scaled movement based on internal setting and hardware setting) Maybe also saved as a unique parameter with each patch? This could also help the concept to do very fine adjustments to patches for cross modulation, high frequency tracking LFO frequency modulation and more. For when you select the scaled parameter setting on a patch you could do more subtle adjustments to for example the cross modulation parameter. Example: You choose this scaled parameter setting, save the patch, switch to a different patch. (in this example you want to subtly raise the cross modulation slider) On my saved patch it is set to 5. Then I switch to a different patch and put the slider at 0. I switch back to the patch I would like to adjust and raise the cross modulation slider. As scaled settings are selected. It will use a different curve to catch up with the slider its setting. (if you want to go wild you could add different curve settings somewhere in the menu) So in this case you start at 0 with your slider, but your actual internal setting is 5. So when you push the slider towards 10, you have double the range for the same distance. (0-10 on the hardware slider parameter equals the 5-10 parameter internally, (INT=EXT) => 5=0, 6=2, 7=4, 8=6, 9=8, 10=10) This gives us more subtle fine-tuning possibilities which we sometimes want. A suggestion regarding keycombination would be: SHIFT + Chorus 1 = Jump to setting (standard) SHIFT + Chorus 2 = Catch on setting (twist to "catch" on) SHIFT + Chorus 1&2 = Scaled changes based on current setting of patch parameters & current hardware parameters When you press shift you will see the Chorus knobs start blinking to show which type of parameter setting is selected. (Chorus 1 blinking is type 1, Chorus 2 blinking is type 2, Both blinking is type 3) With the Super Gemini you select one layer and press shift and you see the setting of that one layer, if you select the second layer and press shift you see the setting of the second layer. If you choose both layers it will only show the setting if both layers have the same setting. Though you can select a setting for both layers at the same time this way. Cheers!

This is all very compelling. I’m picking up my Super 6 tomorrow and then looking forward to a deep dive into sound design with it. Also, I just realised how much George looks like a young Arvo Part. Can someone send Arvo Part a Gemini and see what he makes with it? :)

I love audio input processing on my Super, but I will admit that the troubles I faced getting the settings properly set was immense at first. Maybe most users thought it was broken as I did at first.

@@chrisdavies9143I got mine from Andertons in the Uk, but I paid with Paypal credit, interest free over 4 months. I worked lots of overtime to afford at least half the amount though, just in case. Everyone’s PayPal credit limit will be different though, depending on how long you’ve had PayPal and how often you’ve used it. Most online retailers have interest free options.😊

This is the double the most expensive synth I've ever bought (Moog Matriarch) - but I want it. I'm slowly saving over time, it may take a while but I'll get there :)

I'd have some fun with one of these. Especially that binaural spread, and polyphonic aftertouch, and the intuitive controls. I suspect they could've fit parallel sets of the longer sliders from the Super 6 keyboard, instead of the short sliders they actually used, same as on the much smaller S6 module, where they make more sense. And I agree that 6 dual binaural voices would've been better than 5. But despite all those fine whines, it seems like an incredibly fun and inspiring synth to play.

Love Gaz but when George asked him what kind of sounds he would like to get out of that and Gaz says electric piano sounds. I’m like oh my God this is a full-blown killer synthesizer and you want to hear electric piano sounds……..WTF ! To each his own I guess .

Watch some synth history vids too. Knowing the evolution, users and types of sounds generated make it easier to narrow down features and sound sets you want in buying one. It also makes a difference where you’re coming from. Piano and organ players will feel off if they don’t have a polyphonic synth (being able to play more than one note at a time). People who haven’t played before do well with monophonic or paraphonic synths where the one or two keys at a time are easier to get a feel for.

I am puzzled since it is exact same engine as smaller unit but just both layers exposed wirh direct controls? Is that the concept?
@NikoNoxious

it is more like 2 super 6s slapped together with the addition of a touch strip and polyphonic aftertouch. It really is 2x as powerful at a minimum- the design of this iteration speaks to the design philosophy of the Yamaha CS-80 both because of the two synths slapped one on another timbre stack, and the polyphonic aftertouch

Can't underestimate the benefit of no menu diving. For some it's a non issue, for others it's a big deal. I don't own a summit - but everything I've heard is lovely - but I've repeatedly heard it's menu dive required (even the peak is) to get to things.

@@Gu1tar1stGaz is exploring here. Watch George's superboth demos with sonic state where he explains it in much more depth. Also, how a synth sounds is not the only measure of out perform to me. If I had two synths at say $4000 and one sounded better was a pain to use and the wasn't as nice sounding but the easiest and most enjoyable to use - I'd buy the second one every single time personally.

All of the excitement and I haven't heard one good sound come out of this synth. The Super 6 sounds good, but these Germini demos haven't shown what all of this apparent "power" yields in terms of sound.
