It comes across as rude - and even childish, right at the end. Dude stuck a Summit and a Hydrasynth together. It’s not like he invented a lush new filter-type, or the world’s first programmable fully-analog poly-synth, or MIDI … but he sure acts like it. Super 6 and Gemini are overhyped and overpriced. But, good luck to him!
@kgbinfo Жыл бұрын
I’m going to have to get one of these eventually. Everyone always says “poly aftertouch is a gimmick” or “only virtuoso keyboardists can pull it off”, but in my experience with synths like the Osmose and Ensoniq SQ-80, that is simply not true. I am far from a virtuoso keyboardist, and within the first ten minutes I spent with an Osmose, I was already getting the hang of bending individual notes up and down or introducing vibrato on a single note. Of course there is technique involved, but I found that it came naturally, and wasn’t something I had to think about while doing it. It just sort of happened, and I think that’s a testament to good instrument design in some ways, but also our brains know what they want to hear and I think our hands can act on that before we even realize what’s going on.
@Wagoo Жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you - simple things can be so much more expressive
@GizzyDillespee Жыл бұрын
Yeah if you want to add polyphonic expression to your playing, you don't need to be a better keyboard player than you are right now. You just end up paying more attention to the pressure you place with each finger, while you continue playing at whatever level you played before. That's talking about polyphonic aftertouch, and the "z-dimesnsion" on Osmose/Continuum. With those latter instruments, pitch precision can take some extra practice (x-dimension, IOW left to right pitch instabilities). The pressure dimension is easy, especially when it's like Super Gemini, where it's simply a velocity per key, and polyphonic aftertouch.

Eyy up, a competent workstation with easy programmability and no display - they are certainly rare enough to be worth a shout! With aftertouch, they could actually replace a 90s one, if they have programmability beyond envelope (phase/chorus, layering and "chiff"). Layering, check. So very promising indeed despite a kind of nervous demonstration with lots of "so, yeah". And I absolutely adore the return of the performance section on the left...

I received my Super Gemini. The service and support from UDO is AMAZING! Also, as a CS80 owner, I was delighted to see how incredibly easy it is to open, with the lid up and to see the insides or service the insides of this remarkable keyboard - it is really the upgraded dream-synth for CS80 owners and those who wished they could have a CS80 -- I can assure you as an owner that this synth does everything the CS80 could do and so much more. The only other synth on the market today that can compete in terms of quality is the John Bowen Solaris but it is fully digital while the Super Gemini provides that complement of the rich creamy analog filters. I have Summit and the Gemini. They both have their own value. The keyboard of the Gemini is my cup of tea. The dual layer immediacy of the Gemini wins over the flexibility of the Summit. It isn’t as deep as a Summit, but the concept of not being able to menu dive forces you to learn the instrument in a way we are not used to anymore. And the sound of the oscillators is different allthough both are FPGA based. I’m not sure yet I’ll keep the Summit. But the Gemini stays. There is something emotional about its sounds I do not experience on a Summit
