Superb Christian, and how lovely to have the two sitters tossing a coin to see who gets their hands on your work ! Thankyou for posting this, the best programme on you tube as far as I’m concerned , go on, have another apostrophe !

I like having the year and episode number- I like to watch a season all the way through and keep track of which season I’ve watched

And again, we have no idea of the year or episode, I want a response from the judges or web master, why not? why not? Many have asked and continue to be completely ignored. I would appreciate a response. Would you?

I’m not surprised the religious person with shocked that the non-religious person was decent. In my experience, non-religious people tend to be much easier to get along with than holy rollers.

Wow I cannot believe he told that quote to the priest's face! I don't know how can he say that he didn't say that what she does & believes in is childish. In any case, I've just discovered this show & I love watching them paint.

Years ago. The hostess, whose name I’ve forgotten, has gained about fifty pounds since. And the male host, name also forgotten, has been replaced.

just checked out your work from 2015. must admit that the patterns are nice and you have some talent for visual arts. you have no sense of draftmanship, anatomical proportions, brushwork or shading, however.

I'm with Joan, I don't get Lauras painting at all and was shocked when they chose her. Christian Hooks painting is absolutely fabulous and I am glad the priest won it. Richard Dawkins seems to be annoyingly condescending. Which is kinda funny actually, because atheism is so illogical. Anyway, in my opinion Christian Hook is the best artist from all the seasons.

It still really bugs me that some of the artists have to create a grid on their canvas and copy the image from their devices. What’s the point of painting with a live subject if you rely on these to scale. Makes me think that this show has very low standards while they assume they’re operating with high standards based on their accomplishments.

It also bothers me when I watch it. I heard the judge in one episode mentioned that it is acceptable nowadays.

They allow it because the time is short. It is a way to produce a base sketch in a short time with relatively little room for mistakes. So the artists have more time to actually paint and finish the picture. It's a practicality. In later series the judges sometimes make a remark if one of the artists is actually engaging with the sitter instead of quietly starring on their initial photo. Most of them use the photo just as a control and actually look at the sitters most of the time. In the last season I saw, someone even printed the photo and traced the outlines on the canvas in order to be able to produce a photo-realistic picture which was their signature style. (I watched a lot of this program, whenever I could find episodes here on YT. And I can draw, not nearly this good, but I have a basic grasp of the process of sketching and painting.)

I am an artist trained in the classical way. If the subject is far away from me then I’d have to resort to copying from a photo or my iPad simply because I’ve become short sighted in my older years. It isn’t the same as working from real life but if it keeps me going…

Drawing is logical, painting is emotional. No matter what drawing technique you use, only the painting results count. Also, they have a limited time here, so to get quickly likeness, any tools are useful.

Sad the use of technology. Basically painting from a photo. What a waste of sitting time. When a student I would have given anything for more live sittings.
