I loved this episode. I loved John’s. His piece shows his level of mastery. To have a mind where he can visually store details and then put them on canvas so brilliantly…that is genius. My one son has that visual memory but with math/ programming in 17 different languages (all self taught) hence his career - electrical engineering. I say John is a genius because of his visual memory … my son tested genius. So I assume John is as well. However - to watch John draw and paint was a gift in this episode. I also see this same brilliance in his son and daughters (and wife). I love this show. Thank you!!!!!! Also I did not realize Jake was at the beginning of his career. Well done everyone!!!!!

To much critiques kills ones imagination I feel it becomes the teachers vision not the artist with all that micro managing. How one paints is not how another will paint even after taught. Teach and then let go, let the artist have the freedom to create. To much of do this , do that, change this, change that, kills the imagination and spirit of the artistWasn't original goal imagination not reference or still life. Imagination is each their own. However I do love watching this competition. I just wish the artist was left to be their own artist, I feel even during and after challenges . Save all the other teachers critiquing stuff for class lessons perhaps. Let the artist create. Beautiful family. Beautiful artist. Always shine in your own imagination, your own vision, always. Just my opinion though as a viewer. Still love the show. Would love to see the teachers compete and the audience judge them that would be fun.

I totally agree with you that, it seems that the contest revolves around whoever can follow the "instructors" vision for what they should create. That is a talent, I guess, just not particularly the kind of talent that tuned in for. The art is solid. The advice is too, but I am not sure that the advice given belongs in the format. Just doesn't represent what the creators (of this show) would have us believe.

These artists have plenty of opportunity to do AS you’ve described. But THIS…this is so stretching as to push their artistic boundaries and personal comfort zones, real time. I think it’s rather ingenious, all towards a genuine letting go INTO discovery! 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I always say this, but it’s true….I could watch this all day!!!!! Can’t get enough!!!! I simply and completely love seeing so much of the process, a bit of insight into the relationships and personalities etc that MAKES this show. Never tire of it. I have to say though that I watched season three first, and seeing a short and less personal version leaves me longing for more and it was definitely less fulfilling. Loved it, but it was “less”. I’m sure it is more difficult to do these long versions but I do hope you film another longer version season at some point dear people. ❤

It was sad to have to wait until the very end of the show to see the paintings from the previous show. Whoever is editing - please remember your viewers haven't seen the last show for a while, so when talking about the winners at the beginning you need to show their work! This was a very interesting challenge. Making the artists paint without a source really put most of them off balance, then making them have to paint on 3 other artists' paintings, not knowing whether they would ever come back to their own, removed their control and challenged their minds even more. I think that they will find in future that this exercise and experience really strengthened them, because it forced them to think outside the box. The fact that they were all pretty mad just shows what a box they were in, and an outstanding artist - like an outstanding human - needs to know how to roll with the punches, jump back up and be ready to go again no matter what hits them. I think John did a lovely painting, but it didn't take my breath away the way Dalia's did. When I looked at all the paintings from a distance, Dalia's was the only one that leaped out, and it was even more striking and soul-grabbing up close. It's the one I would want to hang in my home. So, well done, Dalia. Well done everyone! You did a great job under challenging circumstances, having to be extra creative, think on your feet, and get out of your heads!

I absolutely loved John's but I also have to say that Dahlia's was right there with his but in a completely different style. Dahlia's represented light, beauty and whimsy... while Johns was more serious and showed his years of professional artistry. Great going y'all!!! I too agree with @PlayfullyPainting that too much critique can kill ones originality or at the very least alter it. And thank you for pointing out that Jake is a newbie. He's doing great keeping up!

What fun and at the same time so many challenges ❤ Dino was so sweet trying to help Kate in the woods, then Jake leaving John out there. Part of the challenge I know. 🎉the switching painting s being worked on seemed to put some off for a moment. I also know that with my granddaughter watching not to speak when Elle is trying to help an artist, as granddaughter wants to hear everything, she suggests . My favorite was Johns. I just loved it, felt like a walk in the woods, then Dinos. Thanks again for another great show 👍

My favourite paintings in this episode are John and Dalia's. I love the colours Dalia used, her background and how she dealt with the base/roots. I don't think it needed to be more "representational" as was the main critique that seemed to be given to her - it is fine as it is. John's is beautifully whimsical and earthy. I love the mushroom and the way the painting trailed off to just outlines towards the edges. And the background turned out beautiful.

I feel bad for Kate. Elli was talking about how John spent over two hours trashing her painting. I like the idea of switching, but it would give the xontrol freak in me anxiety. Thankfully, no one trashed each other's work. I wish, in the future, you guys might add a quick artist tip each week explaining why someone might use charcoals over or under acrylics or use spray paint or oil in certain parts. Maybe even do a q&a with the artist and let them explain their thought process. I appreciate the judges' critiques during, but I think the artists should be left to paint and have their vision. Sometimes, I feel like Dimitra and Elli are trying to make people bend to their style instead of letting the artists express themselves and trust their own vision. I think it would be better if they said things after. Like Demitra telling Dalia not to cover something. Let her do her thing and then say after why you would have left it. Maybe have a mentor who isn’t part of the judging like Tim Gunn was on Project Runway. I don't think there should be an elimination this week because everyone contributed to each others' paintings and then had to deal with how their painting was changed. I think everyone did great. I think Dalia's was my favorite, followed by John.

Respectfully. the pieces besides Johns were more likely to be changed when a new Artist went to it due to all of the Artists present in the challenge being students besides John. Everyone also instinctually wanted Johns Piece when the Musical Chairs started because that would be the Easiest to finish as John Already made Expert decisions going into this challenge. His is also the Only Original idea put on canvas in this Episode. no offense to any of the other Artists But John was playing to win. not stay in the Challenge. i also suspect he had some idea his painting was coming back to him. what a fun episode. hope yall have a good one.

More than half way through and we've hardly seen the paintings!! It's very frustrating wanting to watch the artists paint and see them develop when we don't see that AT ALL.. PLEASE edit so we see the paintings a lot more cos what's the point of the programme otherwise?? Just watching you all talk?? You can still be talking but we can be looking at the painting AT THE SAME TIME...

I was disappointed to see how some of the contestants were in their left brain. I wish they would have embraced the opportunity to move forward finishing their painting from where it was, instead of whining about how their initial 'plan' had been interfered with. Embrace the change! Embrace your ability to go with the flow! Get back into your right brain and CREATE! 😉

Judges need to back off. Ans stop micro managing everyone's paintings (especially if it's not asked for) is rude and disrespectful. Your job is to critic the final product. Not to surpervise production of the final product.
