I've lived in Baltimore my whole life and you'd think some of our inner cities resemble third world countries with the conditions they live in. I’m from Seattle, and before Macklemore blew up, he was pretty big in the underground scene and also did a LOT for the local hip hop community, and you also can’t mention him without mentioning Ryan Lewis, his producer/partner. I don’t listen to his music anymore and was kinda already off of it by the time he blew up, but prior to his blow up he helped a lot of underground rappers in Seattle to build their careers. I 100% agree with Kendrick, who SHOULD have won, and those texts should of stayed private cuz all that was super cringe, but I’ll always have respect for Macklemore just for what he helped to do for a lot of Seattle rappers.

In all honesty what happened with Ashlee Simpson wasn't so horrible or worth a cancelation but... she'd condemned other performers for lip syncing and using backing tracks prior to her SNL fiasco. So it was a case of someone being a hypocrite. Of course a lot of "entertainers" use backing tracks, but her saying previously that it was "fake" and "being dishonest" was what caused her a lot of backlash. I doubt it. The Milli Vanilli incident was over 14 years before that, I doubt anybody remembered it by that time (or saw any paralells). She wasn't the first artist who had a playback accident, and she definitely also wasn't the last one.

Ashlee got another shot and put in the Orange Bowl halftime show a few months later. Though she was coming in with a bit of notoriety from that appearance, she had a chance to redeem herself a bit. She started OK but her vocals blew out during it. By the end she was just struggling and got that reaction you see at the end of her segment. She also did get to go back on Saturday Night Live the following year and perform, but you're right: no one cared by then. Also SNL was doing it for ratings anyways.

Macklemore messed up, but I still feel bad for him. Winning a Grammy is the dream of every artist, and what should have been the greatest moment of his life was fueled by negativity and others saying he didn’t deserve it.

That's true, but the only real "problem" is that it was only a problem because of bad timing. Back then SNL was still pushing the narrative that EVERYTHING on the show was live, and since the world wasn't perpetually online yet most of us believed it, even tho a LOT of artists throughout the years would perform with a backing track. She had the misfortune of being the FIRST one "caught". So while just a few years later most people realized that's just how performances like that go on live tv, it was too late to un-ring our collective outrage bell so she unfortunately had to suffer for it.

I watched it happen live, they introduced her for that part as playing a different song and she was preparing to sing something else then when the track for pieces of me played, which she had already performed in the show earlier, that happened.
