I agree, “The Town” is still one of my favorite rap songs. Macklemore has a hilarious and excellent verse on Blue Scholars’ “Tommy Chong.” “Otherside” with the RHCP sample of the same name is a beautiful and sad song about the dangers of drug addiction and a culture that promotes drug use. I have a ton of respect for the both of them.

In all honesty what happened with Ashlee Simpson wasn't so horrible or worth a cancelation but... she'd condemned other performers for lip syncing and using backing tracks prior to her SNL fiasco. So it was a case of someone being a hypocrite. Of course a lot of "entertainers" use backing tracks, but her saying previously that it was "fake" and "being dishonest" was what caused her a lot of backlash. She shouldn't have been so quick to judge others and she probably would've been able to recoup.

The thing about Ashlee is that even though every artist was doing the same thing the public was still under the impression pop stars actually sang without backup vocals in live shows. It was literally the moment this practice was exposed... similar to how we are starting to find out that pop stars and even rappers that claim "writing" credits most of the time are just using a ghost writer. That's true, but the only real "problem" is that it was only a problem because of bad timing. Back then SNL was still pushing the narrative that EVERYTHING on the show was live, and since the world wasn't perpetually online yet most of us believed it, even tho a LOT of artists throughout the years would perform with a backing track. She had the misfortune of being the FIRST one "caught". So while just a few years later most people realized that's just how performances like that go on live tv, it was too late to un-ring our collective outrage bell so she unfortunately had to suffer for it.
