I really learn a lot watching your video’s! I am 71 years old and my wife and I play on two leagues and no-taps on Friday! I’m about a 155 average player and working on my spares! I was bowling with 13 lb balls because of sore hips, but got one replaced and now up to 14 lbs. I still use a 13 lb ball for spares which helps me hit my target a little more precise! It’s a bummer with being older and getting tired quicker and having some sore joints, but we love to bowl as seniors! We watch bowling videos to help us improve and like yours the best. Thanks for another great video!

Great to see another fantastic video from you Coach! .. I like that you highlighted ball weight. I think some people try to throw a too heavy of ball than what they should. Way way way back in the day (college days) when I did a little bowling, I used to throw a 16lb. That was maybe ok back in those days when you didn't hook nearly as much and I was young and strong. These days, now that I am 60, and hadn't bowled for nearly 40 years, a 14lb ball is just about perfect for me. As you have illustrated in a prior video, the kinetic energy at the pins is actually greater with a 14lb than a 15lb with the same amount of energy (my throw) being applied. People need to understand this concept. Of course, there is a break point there where getting too light of a ball just doesn't maintain inertia through the pins, probably somewhere around a 12lb. Physics man! 🙂 .. I also throw only a 13lb for my spare ball, which I find helps me to keep my hand behind the ball better and throw a straighter line and maintain a nice light but very straight pendulum swing to help ensure a very accurate and straight line to the pins. At least that's my theory, and I'm sticking to it (until you show me I am wrong .. LOL). Well, great to see another fantastic video from you Coach! .. I hope you are doing well sir and keep up the great work!!!

@@ArtOfBowling - Sorry, got a little chatty 🙂.. bottom line I guess is that I feel it is important for one to use the right weight of ball for them. It's like getting fitted for your golf clubs. Some people may be beneficial throwing a 2 ton ball, some people it may be much better to throw a lighter ball. I suspect that (and have seen) many people try to throw a ball that is too heavy, thinking that will knock the pins down better for them, when in fact many times that simply is not the case. A lighter ball may actually be more beneficial for them.

@@squidly2112 only thing to keep in mind on the issue of ball weight is that kinetic energy is higher with the heavier ball when the same speed (my throw) is applied. Before deciding to drop weight solely on the basis of energy you should check to make sure that your ball speed will actually increase.
@squidly21122 жыл бұрын
@@MikeDCWeld - Same "ball speed" yes .. same energy applied NO .. I can throw a 14lb ball at a greater velocity than I can a 16lb, with the same energy applied. The kinetic energy at the pins will be HIGHER with the 14lb ball with the same ENERGY applied. Just as Coach has shown in prior video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZOUe3prjbN2rNk KE = 1/2 mv^2 .... notice also how most pro's are throwing 15lb balls, not 16lb balls. A 15lb ball also hits the pins with higher kinetic energy than 16lb with the same ENERGY applied.

Question I have a athletic background and I've been natural bodybuilding past 7 years maybe, it's hard for me to just let the ball swing my arm so I power it out and 30% of the time it's straight a roll the other 70% it's a hook, In other words to inconsistent, I've notice when I throw my spare 14 even with power I can control the ball more than I can with a 15 on the backswing, I've been doin the foul line drills for about 4 weeks now every Tuesday and I allow my arm to relax and it works but soon as I start walking here comes the power through roll HELP HAHAHA

How did you arrive at the 18 degrees of axis rotation number as the only amount needed ?
@ArtOfBowling2 жыл бұрын
the ball only needs 6 degree angle entering the pocket we want that to be an end over end role... getting that end over end roll at a 6 degree angle is ideal any more then 18 to 25 degrees does not achive that angle end ove end going toward the pocket...the math was done by oeople far smarter then me...lol
@bowlingxp83452 жыл бұрын
@@ArtOfBowling I'm interested on that math if it can be shown somewhere. I assume they calculated using an X amount of rotations and speed for that. But those are not constant from player to player. So the axis rotation must probably have a large range or something like "dont go over 50 degrees" or something. Or a table that has a value related to speed and RPM.
@ArtOfBowling2 жыл бұрын
I can look for it there was a study done I was discussing it with Adam Chase and Jim Lizzo...we all remembered seeing 18 degrees on a house shot getting to 25 degrees is ok....say the oil pattern was 43 feet that would be the end of the range finders that woild put the approx. break point at the 12 board 43-31=12 It is only 6" of "hook" you need in the last 17' not as much as we think...if we resign ourself the the fact that the optical illusion that is on the lane that we see is not the reality we can see this on the lane...more forward roll = more strikes and a ball that is going to hit the pins with more kinetic energy.

That 18 degree is pull out of thin air. 1) the gentleman in the video got his ball to 6 degree entry angle 2) the shot splitted the 8 9 If he’s already getting the optimal entry angle and splitting the 8 9, why in the world would you change that? Yes, please do show the physics for that 18 degrees. And please do name the people who are far smarter than you do proper credit can be given for their physics.

We always here about staying behind the ball...but some of us cannot. If I stand facing the foul line, with the crease of my elbow facing the pins with my hand down at my side, my hand would be SEVERAL inches away from my body. I have "one of those elbows." I can feel like I'm throwing a backup ball but I'm still on the side. I'm behind it most of the way, but as I get closer to the bottom, in order for me to keep the ball as close to my ankle as possible, my hand must start to come to the side.

@@ArtOfBowling I've tried and tried and tried. As I said, I can feel like I stayed behind it or even threw it backup and when I look at video, I'm on the side. If I face the crease of my elbow forward, my hand, palm forward, is about 6 inches away from my body. It looks like I could almost fit a bowling ball between my hand and leg.

@@ArtOfBowling you're not always right. Some people are just built different. I throw all ball weights at the same speed and Sean apparently has some sort of arm version of bowlegedness. Maybe you should ask him to send in some video of him throwing before telling him that you know better about how his unique body works.

@@TheBigfoot1999 I'd take this guy's advice with about half a shaker of salt. He comes across as very much a "my way or the highway" kind of coach. I'm sure that he is very knowledgeable about the particular style he pushes, but he doesn't seem capable of working with anything that doesn't conform to his methods. I had a pretty reasonable question about his claim that a plastic ball was a requirement for spare shooting and, after referring me to the exact video that I was questioning, finally put forth the argument that you needed to use plastic because using reactive requires you to alter your release to throw straight balls. The problem I find with that argument is that I have to make the same adjustment to my release with plastic as I do with reactive. I also attempted to point out that mastering different releases would make you a better and more versatile bowler. He chose not to respond to that.

You might want to try doing what I discovered recently. When you stand at your starting line, assuming right handed, place your right foot at a 45* to your left foot, arch to heel. This places your right shoulder back a bit. Keep that position through the approach and it helps getting the hand under the ball with the thumb in the right position for me. I started doing this about 4 weeks ago and gained 20 pins average. I also have adjusted my starting position to board 28 inboard of my left foot, and stay straight with the slide just to the left of board 30 when I release.

Please don't make a video of Michael anymore. Very few bowlers do 2 handed. To hit the pocket hard is to have forward revs. Curve like Mike, loses revs / power
@MikeDCWeld2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say very few bowlers use 2-handed. It's certainly not the norm, but I tend to see a couple most times I go bowling so I do see the value in analyzing them. Also, they're not so dissimilar to 1-handed bowlers that we can't still learn something from them. He hasn't done an analysis on a bowler that bowls like I do yet, as far as I've seen, but I still learn from watching those that he does analyze. He should do videos on as wide a variety of bowlers as he can find. All ages, skill levels, and styles.

@@MikeDCWeld he should label this as a tip for 2 handers. Regardless he's way off. And most of them couples you might of mentioned are most likely children not strong enough to use 1 hand. Much like most of these adults. However I must add that I do sound bias towards 2 handed. I bowl right handed with over 200 average in multiple leagues. However I'm also practicing 2 handed left handed. I can see it to be the ultimate form.
