Do you have a different approach when bowling on fresh oil?

even though league patterns are the same from pair to pair, the lanes can play differently from pair to pair. The premise of this video is good knowledge to get lined up.

Definitely a go to source for the finer points of bowling. A lot of casual bowlers wouldn't recognize or appreciate how or why you sometimes have good days and bad days. They might only pay attention to how many pins went down instead of paying attention to what the ball is doing on the lane. I know because I used to be one of them. I only considered trying to get my timing as good as possible and be as accurate as possible. A 150 average bowler who happens to bowl around or above a 700 one night might happen to be lined up properly by chance rather then because they know what they are doing.

This is really eye opening. My most recent experience was on fresh lanes as league was canceled. I'm a new bowler (3 months) but I just couldn't figure out wth was happening. This will help a lot. I personally thought if you needed more hook then use a stronger ball! Now I understand it's how the ball is going through the pocket and harder isn't necessarily better. Good stuff.

I am absolutely shocked the sneak attack worked well on the sport fresh as well as the archetype. When I play the fresh on sport, I use my big asymmetrical solid or upper mid solid, but watching you I have to have my low diff solid handy after watching this. Great job on this video! I like how you describe the hybrid ball as a pearl dominant ball.👍

I played in a tournament last night on a really short flat pattern. OMG! .. THAT was tough! .. I went from a 99 first game to a 206 second game to a 119 third game .. finished with 170ish games but boy, did I NOT know what the hell I was doing. It was so difficult. Even the real good bowlers were having a fit with it. I didn't come in last though (mission accomplished) but finished mid pack at 17th, exactly in the middle. Pretty darned good for me, since this is only my 2nd tournament and 2nd time playing on a "sport pattern".

Awesome video! Would it be beneficial to adjust the surface of the Hazmat or BW 2.0 to re-create the same drive through the pins as the Sneak Attack or Archetype? So instead of driving over the 8 pin, it would be splitting the 8-9 or deflecting a little more instead as it has less energy through the pocket? Like hitting them with a 1000 pad to read the pattern earlier or would that change too much how you stand and have to play the pattern? Or do you just largely keep similar surfaces and change balls instead for sake of not having to adjust surface throughout the tournament?

Subscribed. Your vids are very educational. I’ll use these to line up for league because I honestly just threw the ball and moved based on the miss. I do have a question regarding foul line and arrows. Should the difference typically be ten? Because it sure looked like your foul position and arrow differed by ten on average.

Question. Last night in league I was using my Tropical Surge (14 lbs). It has a low hook potential. I was trying to play it straight (I play two-handed), but it was hooking too early. I moved left but the ball doesn't have a strong hook resulting in weak pocket shots. What should my adjustment be (not including changing balls)? Get my hand more around the ball at release? Move back on the approach? Forward? Go home? By the way, I watched a video online with someone hooking the ball nicely into the pocket. They were getting more out to the right. I have a real hard time doing that. I don't know why.

I didn't find this video useful for low rev bowlers. As an example, your first shot on house was already 3 boards left of where I would start. Because I am low rev I am going to want to stay as far right as possible and use the free hook to get my ball rolling. So when I roll up 6 or 7 board and see the ball either go left too early or roll out, I ball down. If the ball makes a smooth move to the pocket then I stay put. When that ball starts to go high, I ball down. My goal is to stay as far right as possible for as long as possible. On sport it is a little different, as a low rev bowler I need help from the pattern to get my ball into a roll, so I may have to play closer to the flat part of the lane to take advantage of the free hook there, but my angle will still remain closed and be right to left.

It all depends on the lanes and your characteristics as a bowler. I always suggest to start where you’re most comfortable then read the balls motion. If it over hooks, move into more oil or ball change to a ball that covers less board. Then vise versa.

Every shot you make is a pulled ball. The direction your arm goes at release is closed angle. It might work well for broken down oil pattern with lots of play. Otherwise, you are fighting a collapsing swing at release.

If you are a more advanced level bowler, then this information will make complete sense. If you are a casual league bowler then not so much. Bowling technology has advanced significantly over the past decade so if you don't keep up with it, it's easy to get lost in the minutia.
