Big thanks to Margarita Fischer for her helpful tip! When knitting mosaic socks on the Duo 80 with regular 4-ply sock wool, remember to set the stitch size on the back bed with 4 clicks smaller than the stitch size on the front bed. This keeps your stripes looking smooth and avoids extra bulk. Margarita's advice makes a difference!

Absolutely! I couldn't agree more. Just a heads up - while I'm reviewing the instructions multiple times to catch any potential mistakes, there's always a chance I might miss something. It's a good idea to double-check them or, even better, use them alongside the video. Happy holidays, Linda! 🎄

Amazing!! I loved the video intro. Again you make complex passap machine knitting easy and achievable by all. I am also impressed by the quality of ads youtube has chosen to show with this video. It would be nice and also very helpful to novice Passap knitters, if you say in the video, what the machine is doing with the lock settings chosen for each project. This information also helps others knitting on different machine brands to be able to convert setting to their machine and do the project or pattern along with you. This knitting technique would look great on a sweater as well. 🤩😃

Hi, your video is perfect clear as usual, thank you so much. There is only one thing I don't.understand : the punchcard 19 that you show (and that I receive with may passap 80) doesn't seem to match the sock you show : should we really use this punchcard ? Thanks
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback! Yes, you do need to use punch card 19. It's interesting that the mosaic knitting holes on the punch cards don't match the result on the knitted piece, so the card will be different than the final result. Note that not all Passap punch cards are suitable for mosaic knitting. While some aspects of this process remain a mystery to me, I am actively working on creating a video on this topic.

___ I'm sorry, I'm not very experienced in resizing patterns. To get the right measurements, I'd recommend knitting a test swatch to get gauge information. Then, you'd have to make calculations based on the gauge in the instructions and the desired size of the garment.

Can you clarify something please? In the video you clear the row counter after making the heel but the notes don’t have his instruction. Do the 220 rows start with the first colour change at step 42 or are steps 39 and 41 in the notes the first two rows? Thanks!
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay Жыл бұрын
I apologize for any confusion. The row counter should indeed be cleared after making the heel. This occurs in step 36, where the lock will be on the right side, and the row counter should be at 46 rows. All 220 rows from step 39 onward must be knitted in the same mosaic pattern, so the first of them is on step 39. P.S. I am writing the instructions after making the video, so it's always as shown in the video.

I'm about to make some more of these and hope I've remembered what I did wrong before LOL! By the way I noticed that the stripes on the sole are different in your fairisle video. They go along the length of the foot instead of across. In this video you have front lock only set to HX with both arrow keys. In the fairisle tutorial both locks are HX with left arrow key. Can I do the same here or will that muck up the mosaic?
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay Жыл бұрын
I guess the stripes can't be in the same direction as on the Fairisle slippers because when knitting the mosaic ones, the color must be changed on every 4th row, and for the Fairisle slippers on every second row. I guess the fabric will be textured, and the stripes won't change their direction. However, it is still an interesting thing to try. I guess it will work if you knit 2 of the rows with the arrow key on the back bed pressed, and the other 2 rows without it being pressed.

My cuff turns out huge should i lower the SS? Also will you have a tutorial on a ribbed cuff
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay 5 ай бұрын
Lowering the stitch size can help make the cuff a bit smaller, but if it's still too big, you might also try reducing the number of stitches. When I knit socks, I often find that the first pair ends up being a gift, and the second pair is the perfect fit. LOL. 😊 I actually have an older video on knitting a plain sock with a ribbed cuff. The ribbed cuff in that tutorial is knitted flat and then sewn later due to the limitations of the machine. I’ll definitely consider making a new tutorial for a sock with a ribbed cuff in the future. Thanks for the suggestion!

@@ArtOfClay No problem yea i figure since it can knit rib double bed, i thought maybe two different ways... one would be making the cuff double length so it can fold over or 2nd would be casting on with waste yarn, then after i dunno 15 rows, 1 row of ravel cord, then casting on the rib cuff, knitting twice the amount of ribbed cuff... drop the bed down, pull up the beggining with the waste yarn and rehang stitches around, then pull out ravel cord to take off the waste yarn, put up bed and continue with a double ribbed cuff, i like the more pronounced cuff look
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay 5 ай бұрын
Your response made me think. The second way of knitting the rib that you mentioned can be done automatically without the waste yarn. First, you have to arrange the needles in a 1:1 division and knit the first row with the machine set to N/N (SS - 3). Then, increase the SS to 5, or for the main knitting, set the back lock to BX, and raise pushers in 1:1 division under the needles on the back bed. The leftmost one should be in WP. Knit the needed rows of ribbing ending with the lock on the left side. Next, set the back lock to N, raise all needles on the front bed and knit 1 row, or set one of the locks to GX, transfer all stitches to one of the beds, and continue knitting. You should get the folded rib automatically sewn. I have shown this method in my scarf hat video.

@@ArtOfClay oh okay so its making the rib as a flat fabric that you would then sew up a seam... i was just curious if there was a way where you wouldnt have to sew a seam. Also for this eseentially you could make the ribbing, and then use decker combs to transfer back to front bed in a circular fasion to continue on knitting the leg of the sock ?

Ha-ha, I usually have a hard time finding anything other than this acrylic yarn on big bobbins. I buy my yarn from this site: www.pleta.bg/en/new-yarn/yarns-by-tape/yarn-machine/. Just a heads up-make sure your browser is maximized, as sometimes the page loads blank for me otherwise. Hope this helps!

Question again sorry, so im trying to convert this into a e6000 cuz thats what i have, when you use the deco device you have to knit 4 rows of each color does that account for 1 row of pattern? when i use my passap its 2 rows per color per 1 row of pattern thats why im wondering if i should divide how many rows your doing in half?
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay 3 ай бұрын
That's a pretty tricky question because of the mosaic technique. I was never able to understand what the machine was doing. But there are no floats on the backside of the fabric. I looked at the sock up close, and it seemed that 4 rows were equal to 2 rows of the pattern. However, you might be on the right path of figuring that out. I can't be sure in the following but, I have a screenshot of an FB publication, and it seems you have to use T131, the lock set to LX, which will produce a slip mosaic fabric. Also from the same post, "If you program the machine with T130 and you knit two rows of colour 1 then two rows of colour 2, you will get the same result as T131. " This is from a post written by Diane Wharton regarding stitch pattern 1024. I hope you will find this information helpful.

@@ArtOfClay yes sadly Those techniques use KX which is a tuck but when you use KX and try to use back bed KX knits in both directiosn so you end up crossing the bed so its impossible to do as tubular. I just tried most the settings, I dont think its possible on the e6000 to do double bed float less fair isle, i can do floating fair isle easy cuz theres a technique for that , but all the settings that would do knits and tucks, do it both directions... we only have HX on the back bed not on the front... so i dont think its possible sadly :/... unless just knitting a flat piece to sew up... or knitting a non fair isle pattern

@@ArtOfClay okay never say never i did figure out a way to do it, but there is alot of switching the front lock back and forth between two of the settings and also manually pushing backbed pushers down for 4 passes... but i did figure it out so i guess there is a way, just takes longer lol...

Well, I’ve heard that there are definitely some things the Duo can handle that the E6000 struggles with, and vice versa. It sounds like this might be one of those cases. I’m really sorry I can’t offer a solution, but it’s great that you managed to figure out a workaround!
