Not a lot of videos actually show mistakes and them being fixed. I LOVE that you show them and fix them on camera. I never know what to do and end up just restarting or giving up a lot of projects.

Thank you! I think mistakes are the most important part of the whole thing. Even things that I'm quite adept at-- I still mess up all the time.

Great video! It's always nice to find more KM content. While I'm team Brother, I covet an Passap DM 80 or E-6000. Those machines will knit just about anything. If you're a fan of Tuck Stitch the Passap is the machine to have. The Japanese machines top out around 4 tucks before you're going to hit issues. I've seen people to 8 or 10 tucks on a DM-80.

Your video really helped me. I spend more time feeling intimidated by my passap although I love it. I don't feel so on my own in trying to get more proficient thanks

I laughed way too hard when you unrolled the brim of your first hat to your neck! What a funny thing- I'm glad you made a second one you like more. It's awesome what knitting machines can do. Dying them will be so cool. Would also be fun to see the process you talked about where you knit up big swatches to dye gradients for weaving. And congrats on your good news.

Gosh me too! I had finished filming around 2 am that day and I was cackling alone in my room 😅. Now that I've figured out that the weaving cotton I use will knit, I'm definitely going to make a video about dyeing those gradients. I'll probably do that around the same time that I dye the hats and other things I have planned since it's kind of an ordeal to break out all the dyeing equipment. I'm so glad to have made you laugh-- that's what I'm going for.

Super happy I found your channel! Your content is lovely and your personality is as well! I’ve been thinking of trying out a knitting machine but was worried it was really complicated but honestly it is a lot less threatening now! Thank you so much for sharing your work!

Thanks so much for being here! There's definitely a learning curve, but as long as you can power through the hiccups, you'll be just fine.

I appreciate that you show difficulties. I don't have the same machine, but my 2 single flatbed knitters are a constant challenge, and many youtubers make it look easy. However, part of the pleasure is found in mastering the beasts! Thank you! BTW Your Duo does rib automatically but is there anything else beneficial about a dual bed machine?

So cool! I got a passap after this last christmas and I made almost the same mistakes you did on the first fisherman's rib hat I made haha. I have a single extension plate on the left front bed and it seems to support the locks well enough. But I haven't used the full bed for a project yet so... You won't be able to do ribbed hat in a tube, unfortunately. But you can make a stockinette hat in a tube! There may be a way to seam it using the machine. I was fortunate enough to get a Hague Linker that can be used for seaming. Your seam looks just like mine did. OH! and I got a 3d printer specifically to make the tools that are hard to find. I want to make an adjustable tool for the pushers so that fair isle patterns can be done more easily by hand

Hi! The single extension plate might support it just fine, I just got spooked because it squeaks in a way that's off putting to me when I push it that far over. I'm just trying to be super cautious as to not do anything to hurt the machine. I hadn't even thought about needing both beds to do ribbing, I'm very much a noob. I think mock rib or stockinette would be just fine for hats, too. Linkers are super intriguing to me, but I haven't looked into them much. Probably for the best, as my fiber arts wishlist is already 10 miles long. It's super cool that you've got a 3D printer! I'm missing a piece for my color changer and I found a place that prints those parts. It would be really neat to have that ability just in my own house. Do you have your tools listed anywhere for sale?

I am trying to learn a Passap Duomatic 5 ”Pinkie” from scratch. Very similar to the 80. If you want a smoother beginners experience you should choose acrylic or wool instead of cotton because of the lack of elasticity in cotton yarn, I am told. (Goes for all knitting machines) Thanks for the video!
@darcyfabre

Hey! Thank you. I've dabbled with acrylic and wool yarn in my explorations so far. They definitely knit much more smoothly than the cotton, but I'm partial to cellulose fibers because I have large stash and lots of fiver reactive dye. I hear that weaving yarn isn't great for machine knitting either, but the steep learning curve is worth it to me in the long run!

There are some tubular hat patterns around but I haven't tried them. I've been machine knitting since 1986 so my hand stitching has finally gotten to the "good" stage. For a while I was kntting to the crown on the machine, then shaping the crown on knitting needles but this is too slow, despite the better appearance. Keep at it. You're doing well.

Thank you so much! I failed miserably several years ago at hand knitting and haven't gotten the courage to try again. It's good to know that knitting the crown by hand might not be worth it.

I think both hats make for a good look :~D I like thicker brimmed beanies personally because I have a large head and big square jaw so the large brim balances my face out at bit LOL ! I don’t have a flatbed knitting machine (yet) but even still your videos are good information AND relaxing to watch. Please show when you dye the hats! Weaving content would also be so cool to see; I have a couple small looms but nothing larger like your huge floor loom!

Hi! Thanks so much. I'm not usually a hat-wearer, so anything on my head makes me think I look a little goofy. I can totally see how thicker brims would be preferred for some people. I'm super excited to dye the hats and some other things I've got planned. I'll definitely show that whole process when I get around to it! The video that I was trying to make for this week was a weaving video because I'm starting a new project. Turns out it's harder to explain something you know than to talk to yourself out loud as you're learning something lol. Hopefully I'll get those videos out soon too. Thanks for sticking around and commenting!

Hi, I do not have the extension and I tried just by sliding the carts and it does not seem that my machine needs the extension platform. It would for sure if I ever get the Deco extra cart.
@darcyfabre
@darcyfabre Жыл бұрын
Hi, there! I think maybe it was the fact that I only had one of the extension plates on? It was making an unpleasant squeaky sound, but I was so worried of whooshing the lock onto the floor that I kept it on. It's good to know that it doesn't seem necessary for you.

Having used cotton yarn if you wash it and machine dry it it’ll shrink quite a bit usually
