This looks like a fun exercise to try once I get my sketchbook rolling! Speaking of that, I wanted to say thank you, should you ever see this comment. I came across your videos a few days ago and something in the way you explain things reminded me that art is supposed to be fun. It's always been part of my life but somewhere along the way, I lost my own artistic voice and barely even noticed. Your videos showed me this and I am now on a mission to correct it! I became afraid to just let go, to experiment, TO PLAY! So... thank you for bringing that spark back to me, Jess. It means more than I could ever put into words.

I appreciated this video so much. It is so so so so helpful to hear someone discussing what exercises and techniques they use while being able to just watch them paint. A lot of people make videos with in-depth discussions about what’s on their pallet etc. and those are great and I appreciate it- but something about this format just really clicks with me on a level that nothing else ever has including some of the art classes I took. As nice as it would be to go back to school, one of the big benefits of KZbin is the fact that the student, so to speak, gets to benefit from the teaching style that best suits them.

Wow! This was incredible to watch. Thank you for not speeding up the video to much. It was great to see how you layer the tones and how gentle the pigments were as you stacked the colors. I could watch this over and over for hours. I am still a little nervous to paint but this inspired me seeing how much detail can come from using grayscale. I am so blown away. Thank you so very much for sharing and teaching.

Love it!!! I am usually an ink and graphite guy as I am hesitant (not confident with color mixing) to try painting. My few experiences were infuriating as I spent so much time, usually started off pretty good imo, but turns into a blobby mess before I give up and toss it in the trash. Never really thought about starting out with black and white; so I'm inspired to give it a try. 💙

The problem I have with paint is that I can’t get the fine definition I can with other mediums. It’s tough to control the water and absorption into the paper. This definitely needs a lot of painting skills to pull off. Be warned.

Brilliant technique. You showed the form and gesture so elegantly. Liking the zorn palette. For someone like myself who getting back in the practice of art it motivates me to get going because it’s simplified. I’m so out of practice getting my gear out can almost feel like over committing to me. Silly I know but many other people will be in the same position so simplify your equipment can help. ✌️
