So.. When I was a kid. I used to laugh at the video of Warhol eating a hamburger. Now.. I have a newfound respect for it. It went "viral" before the internet and social media was a platform. Its probably the first ever "mukbang" video and it captures our weird fascination of watching a person dine on film. Kind of like that "strudel" scene in inglorious bastards or that prison dinner scene in Goodfellas. And when I finally got around to watching 66 Scenes From America, the film that the burger scene was shot for.. I understood there and then that Jorgen Leth wanted to give audiences the world over a glimpse into America.. At that specific point of time. Frozen on film. If I had to put America 1980s onto film in only 3-4 minutes.. You won't go too wrong with Warhols quirky mannerisms, chewing down a Burger King.

When I was in Art School back in 1971 in NYC, I was enrolled in a Commercial Art course and we use to make fun of his work at that time but many years later while working as a Graphic Artist, I found his work to be very Interesting and liked most of it! I also remember laughing along with my fellow students in Art School about how we were lucky to go into a profession where we would never have to use Computers to do our jobs! WOW, after working as a Graphic Artist for about 10 years, Computers were starting to be used for Graphic and I had to buy a Mac and learn how to use a computer or I would lose my Job! Nathan Cowan We still really don’t know her "official" motives for shooting Warhol, but what I overviewed is definitely one of the most common. As for the pacing, order, and overall length of the episode, keep in mind I’m trying to condense a man’s entire life in under 10min, which is very difficult! Of course, he most definitely had more impact than I had time to overview, but what I’m trying to do is start conversations. @artrageousnate4 жыл бұрын
No worries! Abstract art is difficult to understand. Actually, this is Pop-Art, which Warhol pretty much mastered. A good way to think about it is a mix of graphic design meets painting, drawing, etc. Warhol's background was in graphic art, he was just the first to blur the lines between graphic art and the fine arts. As for abstract expressionism, you should check out my episode on Jackson Pollock, who really made the art form famous. It's by far one of the most argued art forms, with many calling it trash. However, I make an argument that just maybe it isn't! Either way, thanks for watching, and best of luck on your essay!

If he had something to say he would have said it; verbally or through his art. It was a case of someone literally willing themself into the public eye. He loved the money and the fame but had no way to justify his existence in the art world. And so knowing full well that his career was a scam, that he had hoaxed the entire world with his nonsense, he portrayed a cynical and sarcastic arrogance. It would be a nonissue, Warhol would just be a tiny blip in the history of art, forgotten for all time, except that people more stupid than he actually bought into it. And some of those people had a lot of influence and a lot of money. And now we are still dealing with the aftermath of Warhol wannabes selling out museums and galleries of absolute trite garbage in the name of so-called art. Sad.

@artrageousnate5 жыл бұрын
Hi Amy, thanks for the feedback! Hmm, I have to admit I'm having trouble remembering any nudity in this. I scrubbed through it a few times, and the only "nudity" I could find was a super rough sketch he did as a high school student (which I would consider similar to a rough DaVinci sketch.) As a former elementary art ed. teacher, trust me, I totally get your concern. I went through similar issues when I first started at the school. Even before discussing DaVinci and Michelangelo I sent an email home to parents discussing the human figure in art, and emphasizing/describing the importance of separating pornography and art. They are two very different things. I also invited parents to call me with questions, concerns, etc. Interestingly, as time went on it became less of an issue. I also found using Rodin and his works as an example of art not porn, they started to get it. I still used discretion, of course, with certain artists and works. Either way, I have a ton of elementary and middle school educators who use this episode, so hopefully it should be pretty safe! Again, thanks for the feedback, and for being an educator! -Nate

Not sure exactly why you need to accuse me of not being an artist, which is completely subjective and not related to what you are trying to say. I'm not demonstrating a technique, nor have you seen any of my personal work. Of course, I knew there were stages to his techniques, and yes, he did not start with screen printing. Again, you may have a valid point, but taking the opportunity to accuse me of not being an artist defeats your objective. At the end of the day, I personally choose to build people up rather than tear them down, especially when I don't know them personally. Makes the world a better place!

@@artrageousnate sorry didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Just wanted to point out for those who don't know anything about art that Andy did 2 different art techniques. Hugs Penny

If you was an artist you would know that Andy warhol was not a artist. Andy warhol was a deluded retard who thought he was an artist. He was not an artist.
