17 y old aspiring tattoo artist here. After saving up for what feels like forever, I just ordered my first kit and everything else I could possibly need to get started with tattooing. Thanks for making my tattooing journey that much more obtainable. I owe you the world bro, you've taught me so much.

I agree and To be honest I do a very similar thing as you in those areas. I believe there is a time and a place for riding the tube (if it works for you). I hardly ever post comments but I feel compelled to tell you, you inspire me so much, you’re so knowledgable and I love how clearly and efficiently you explain everything. I’ve been getting tattooed for over 14 years and I’ve always drawn and created my own designs and this most recent lockdown has got me to finally take the plunge and get into tattooing. I’ve got the hawk pen and everything imaginable I need to start up. Question for ya...i was working on a koi fish on my leg and doing some color and definitely overworked and tore up a spot...is there a video on how to really figure out hand speed and voltage together or any suggestions on how to do this when I go back this weekend to do more work on it without tearing up my skin??
@ArtSomething
@ArtSomething 3 жыл бұрын
This is a very hard question to answer and I am still coming up with a method to best teach this. As it usually comes with time but I do have a few vids on my channel that may help give you the techniques to color pack or shade an area properly so that you dont end up over working the skin. But I do still plan on making a video eventually showing how to no over work the skin or at least prevent it.

I think you'll find for most of us we struggle with possibly yeah the stretch? ...finding our "base" and our grip/ technique etc. But we ALL I believe have blown out somewhere along the line!? (most likely tattooing ourselves) and unfortunately that confidence busting blubbery "Needles in control_not my hand anymore" kind of yukkiness. So umm yes! What can happen is sometimes the ointment we are using during the tattoo can slowly clog the tip of your tube. I find machine stroke helps. Bishop has a what I think are good stroke lengths in the wand series for their liner shader and packer. I believe they have it figured out. More of an expense but probably worth it. Also it pays when having to tattoo over stretch marked skin. My opinion of course but I would like to hear what you think about tattooing stretch marks. Sometimes they can’t be avoided ya know. Every artist has a different approach.

I agree the bishop series seems to be pretty solid. I have only tried the shader but im glad to hear your enjoying them all. And yes scars and stretch marks can be a pain but I find patience to the key here lol. 🤘🤘

@@ArtSomething I don’t have the wand machines. Bit too pricey to own them all but the different strokes make them worth for those that do have them. I have to say that just a different stroke in any machine has a big difference. When I had lining issue I changed to a 4.0mm and 4.5mm stroke and I find it hits harder and gives a lil more distance to work with. Just gotta make sure the machine is powerful enough. I’ve often thought of going back to lining with a coil but finding a good stroke length and powerful enough rotary or pen machine gets it done. Thanks for sharing with the world man. Keep tattooing man.

Quick question.....how often do you rinse your needles when running your machine? Mine seem to get gunked up about after the first 10 min. Is it to much ointment ...I do a really thin layer after wipe, sometimes wipe run machine wipe then a thin layer. Any tips would be great.

Doing bad examples on your own thighs, what a king! Okay I do the same lol, I see my thighs as part of my journey too. For the moment, I tend to go way too light on other people, especially when my mentor is not around, I'm too shallow, not deep enough, and I struggle getting good crisp lines. On myself however I'm a fucking brute. During the session I'm so focused on the work I don't feel pain at all, I'm like "oh yeah, on me it works so much better!" and when it heals badly I realize I was too deep and it sometimes blotches or heals in scars. Meh... it's better like this than the other way around I guess? Thanks so much for the clear examples, even a non native speaker can follow. Bless!

Also wondering, do you sometimes work with coils? I feel like rotaries allow for a faster hand speed and I just can't find video examples of how fast you should move your hand with a coil machine?

Unrelated to the video, but seeing as the CNC-Q2 is now out of stock, is there another machine you'd recommend in its place around the same price (like the CNC Q3)?

I'm definitely learning all about how different areas take ink differently. Had a hell of a time on my shin. Any tips for these kind of areas? I've only done my thigh, inside of knee(managable), inside lower leg with lettering that wraps right over shin. I outlined and left lettering empty for hip pain and research reasons. Maybe bc it was late and 5am comes quick

Sounds like your learning things the best way possible. That is by trial and error, learning from your mistakes and finding what works. With so many parts of the skin taking ink differently its always important to take your time when working in a new area. keep up the good work and Keep Rocking my friend! 🤘🤘

Now.. to cover up those lines with a fart cloud 💨 haha! Thanks for all of your content so far dude, I have just recently started my journey with trying to break into the industry but is super hard being in a small country town within Australia, the interwebs are my only source of learning unfortunately as there are no studios within distance of me to go learn at. Thanks again, appreciate all of your effort you put in your videos! 🇦🇺 🤘 🤓 🤘 🇦🇺

Ok so I watched your other video and got some knowledge I’ve been looking for for at least a year now, I’ve done numerous tattoos on myself that everyone says looks like I went to a shop but I’m nervous to test on other people, how do I know if I’m not going deep enough on someone even if it feels like I do? I can never get this down any tips??

My first tattoo I used Dynamic ink RD2 (Chinese red) ink. After my tattoo healed it looks very pinkish almost like my skin was peeled off. I’m thinking it was a combination of not packing in the color enough also incorrect technique. How long to wait to fix it or tips to fix it? Also my friend tattoo with the same ink color seems to be healing a little raised.
