Awesome explanation, I'd love a follow up on value sketching a mini before "coloring" it.

The way you put this (kind of) hard thing to understand into Layman's terms was done perfectly. This really makes sense and can't wait for more videos 🙂 I will definitely try to incorporate this into my own paintings.

Absolutely brilliant video painting years and this is the first time I understood the explanation

Great little explanation! Thank you! It really made some things click when thinking about the basecoat/shade/hightlight method that gets taught. I think volume gets lost where paint companies sell different "colours" to highlight with, so newbies like me think in terms of colour.

This is very well explained and helpful. When you said that we should be thinking in terms of value, not color, it really clicked.

Fantastic video! Values and volume are not focused much on YT and I didn't start focusing on it till I started watching you on Twitch and my painting improved immediately. Love you Lord Alpac

Very informative. I've been trying to think in volumes, but it's hard to get out of the GW mindset

If i still have a hard time to see volumes, does playing PS1 video games will help?
@NothingOfAPerson8 ай бұрын
It honestly could. Find a 3D object in your game, then look at the values and shades that is being contrasted to the object to bring it volume. How does light hit in one direction, and how does it hit in another? Check shadows, too. Never forget your form, which brings depth to shapes. Hope this helps!

Not that I would like to disagree, by all means, a cool short video. But just to be annoying -actually, it's all about how interesting is to look at your artwork, and for mini, its all about contrast, and contrast comes from many things, but the value is one of the most important, but... Considering scale it might be value on its own would not give you the best contrast. So it might be not the most important if you after small scale and have to invest in setting proper colour contrast. =) But that's just for sake of pretending its a smart comment - value first.
