I hope you find the enveloping method useful. Just remember... if it seems a little methodical and mechanical, that's because any skill when it's first being learned is a bit stop-start and each step has to be very conscious (a bit like learning to drive). With a bit of practice, it becomes much more fluid and you have to make many of the construction marks I show in this video. BUT, you will still be observing the exact same things! The enveloping method just helps you to see those a little easier at first. Any questions, please add them below and I'll do my best to answer asap. Phil

But this will only work, if I draw from reference, right? If I wanted to draw a pair of highheels on a chair next to me, how could I substitute that envelope?? Could I use skewer sticks? Could that work?

You are holding a pencil, why don't you use it to copy distances?
@catzkeet48602 жыл бұрын
I know this is an old comment and video.... But seriously? You can't "copy distances" unless you want to be forever limited to making drawings that are exactly the same size as your reference. You can copy angles, because they don't change with increase or decreases in size but distances(ie: length of lines) do. They are relative to the size of the subject.
@xetrius36712 жыл бұрын
@@catzkeet4860 The semantics of "copy distance", you copy a scale of size. By maintaining the same scale reference you can draw what you see in ratio to all the other measuring points in your drawing. If you want to draw a building with some trees you obviously do no draw it exactly the same size, so you take your pencil and close one eye extend your arm intront of your face and line the point of the pencil with on of the edges of the building use your thumb down the pencil to mark the length and transfer that distance to the paper, do that with multiple reference points and you get the building to scale.

The music in the shading portion of the video was very annoying and too loud. Could hardly hear what he was saying in the beginning, until the music volume was turned down some. Still distracting.
@janetc3707 Жыл бұрын
Why play the music so loud we can't hear you talk? Everything was fine until the shading part with the loud music.
