Imagine sitting in front of thousands of fans with your mates playing drums and singing like that, with that intensity, and it's a song named after your tragically departed baby sister. Dailor is a metal God and so are the rest of these boys

at 4:44 you can almost fathom the gravity of the song's meaning just by seeing troy's expression.. "mama dont let them take her! dont let them take her down!"
@Gore1714597 жыл бұрын
Robert Johnson I find that interesting since Skye was actually Brann's sister who commuted suicide.
@Dread_Naught_But_The_Dark7 жыл бұрын
Taimir Gore I'm aware, it just makes it that much more notable since he isn't necessarily the one who should have that much of himself invested into the song meaning.
@Gore1714597 жыл бұрын
Robert Johnson I feel. The lyrics really are pretty gutwrenching and Troy kills it vocally.

Taimir Gore agree 100%. the first time I put two and two together it hit me like a ton of bricks once I'd finally paid attention to the lyrics and meaning.

I absolutely love Mastodon. Having heard the name for years but never checked them out before, I bought their brand new album "Crack the Skye" back in like 2009 or whenever it was. The album blew my mind so hard, I had to pull over on the drive home from The Wherehouse. This one album was, like, half of all music I played for months. Only years later would I learn that some fans consider the album disappointing, and prefer Mastodon's earlier work. Mastodon toured in support of their new album, and I went to see them with Dethklok, who were also my favorites at the time. I was expecting a mixed bag of songs. But, surprisingly, Mastodon performed their entire Cracke the Skye album. So it was an absolutely perfect show for me! I've seen Mastodon 5 times now, and each of their shows was different. They did pretty much all of "Next time Round the Sun" next time I saw them, and the third show I saw them was a great mix of songs across all their albums, and then they did pretty much all of "Hushed and Grim" but I would have bought the ticket just for "Teardrinker" and a couple encores. Last time I saw Mastodon, at Aftershock 2024, they performed all of Leviathon. We had a circle pit going 100% of the time from the very first note. I didn't see a pit going for an entire performence for any other band, and I went to Aftershock three days and saw BB and Judas Priest and other hard-hitters. Some of the Maston shows I've gone to, they have a touring keyboard player, and sometimes they don't. One of the shows I saw, Brent Hinds had a fit and fought with his guitar tech. 1/5 shows sounds about right. Anyway, rock on. Love you guys.

"Mama don't let them take her, don't let them take her down, at least alone" There aren't many songs that will make me cry, especially not ones from a progressive metal band that writes songs about Moby Dick and Rasputin But this is one of those songs, and I feel for Brann everytime I've seen him play this. It must be hard on him. Also this is probably the best Troy performance I've seen, he nails Kelly's screams.
