I lived in Yukon growing up, and we went to Homer when I was about 14. Oh geeze, that's 30 years ago now. Anyway we did the Halibut fishing trip. It was an amazing experience, but unfortunately the area has become too over fished. The Halibut we were pulling up were massively larger than what you guys caught. The Halibut was so big they had to shoot them before bringing into the boat. For a 14 year old that made quite the impression.

My wife and I went fishing in Homer in June of 2023 and it was great! My wife got a 43 pounder and I got my biggest fish I have ever caught! It was a 60 inch 92 pound halibut. The captain made us fight the fish with no rod holder. So 40 mins later I got it close and the captain shot it with a 410 shotgun and then got it in the boat! We will do this again I hope.

Another great video. I'm guessing you were in Homer in June if its before the salmon run. Even as a local, I learned a lot about the border range of the Kenai with the differing landscapes and the how the Homer Spit maintains itself. I really enjoy the background information you put into your videos. The halibut and cod looked yummy. Hope you kept the halibut cheeks. I recommend finding a good halibut olympia recipe. Yummy! What was the name of the Baja breading you mentioned? The closed captioned said "capore", but we couldn't find that. Great timelapse at Tern Lake. Excited to see your next adventure and learn lots.

It's such a huge compliment to have you say you enjoy and appreciate the videos. Truly! We did save the cheeks! The breading is called "capeador". I did a quick google search and can't find the stuff we got in Baja. But I did find this Knorr product on Amazon. Can't speak to whether its any good, but maybe it is! amzn.to/3ZPNoze

Halibut is the prime rib of fish. Also a 16lb 15oz northern Pike in Chetek Wisconsin. And I lost the Lucky 13 fish contest by 1 ounce on WEAU.
@ArtWeThereYet
@ArtWeThereYet 11 ай бұрын
WOW! 16lbs! I was just telling Jose about pike on a recent hike. We were talking about the fishing regulations in Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. Northern Pike is native to areas near the Alaska Range, but down here in the Kenai Mountains it is invasive. So they have a no limit rule on it. I was telling him it would be pretty cool if we caught some pike, and I was describing it to him. I remember fishing for pike when I was little. Don't ever recall getting one. My brother got a few big ones though. Amazing the size you reeled in!

So cool! It was hard for me to see them being cut into, that's for sure (I'm a Pisces 🐟). But, boy, do I love halibut and cod (my two favorite fish). How are you guys not freezing in that weather and being in a bus that doesn't appear to be insulated on the inside? I live in a 1992 International 3800 School Bus and have froze my butt off in Nevada at 35 degrees and in LA at 35-37 degrees!! I've been working on insulation and I had a special paint put on the roof over the summer that helps reflect the heat and sun back to source. It really made quite a difference for me over the summer. It's also suppose to help keep the heat in the winter/cooler months. If you're interested in the info, I have a video on my channel that is sharing the type of paint that I used and the powder additive 😊 Best wishes!! #SKOOLIELIFE
@ArtWeThereYet
@ArtWeThereYet 11 ай бұрын
Hey fellow skoolie! So last winter we lived in a cabin in Seward, AK, and this winter we will take care of another cabin, also in Seward. You are exactly right - our skoolie was NOT built for cold weather. Once it gets cold enough for the pipes to freeze, we can't live in it. We never intended to be in cold places for the winter, and have to move out, but life led us this way and so we do what we gotta do! While we are in the bus, it's still pretty chilly even throughout the Alaskan summer. We had a propane heater (Little Buddy) that kind of worked, but it created a lot of condensation. So actually just a few weeks ago, we installed a diesel heater (this one: amzn.to/3PLf7MB). It has CHANGED OUR WORLD. We LOVE it!!!
@animallovefest143
@animallovefest143 11 ай бұрын
@@ArtWeThereYet Oh, I see 😊 I'm sure it's all been well worth it. And, it's truly beautiful! I also have the "Little Buddy" heater and I've experienced the same thing, so I get it. A friend of mine suggested the "Diesel Heater" to me as well. I'm glad to hear that it has been a game changer. So, does that mean that it works so well that insulating the inside doesn't seem to matter? Taking care of someone's cabin in the winter sounds like a fantastic idea. I recently came across "Harvest Hosts". Not sure if you've heard of it. You stay one night (or more with approval from owners) at a ranch or winery and learn all about it if you're so inclined. Either way, you're asked to pay a annual membership and purchase one item at their store or offerings of $30 or more... sounds fun and interesting! 😃

Upper Cook Inlet and west Kenai Peninsula were also shaped by giant glaciers; those held what is now Mat-Su Valley, hostage for a few million years under miles of ice. Plate tectonics aside.. That certainly changes how to think of a chilly time, and long winters without electric blankets!! ~ small town AK-USA 🇺🇸❄🍄☃🐟🐻🌤
