I am no longer affiliated with Boldbird Studios. I was an animator on Lionbound for 9 months up until it was canceled last week, and since the NDA has been released, I wanted to share the work I did during that time. I'm happy to answer questions in the comments, but please stay respectful!

If you haven't been keeping up with the situation over the past 2 weeks, the studio had serious issues with toxic mismanagement, overworking artists, treating criticism/concerns very inappropriately/dismissively, and shady behavior regarding finances and contracts. Thanks! Yeah,, it's horrible how much work got wasted :( but I think it's for the best it was shut down since a lot of the issues stemmed from the founder and managers. If it were to continue, it needed to be handed to another team to run it

Beautiful works! I’ve seen these on the discord since we were on the same team and I love the emotions and the animations you put much work! It’s sad and frustrating how it ended, maybe someday it may be revived by another team, who knows. Keep up the awesome work!

I used to work on Lionbound too. Being a minor at the time and having never signed NDAs before i backed out then (as i didn't expect it to go there to begin with), they've kept me on the team for a while without needing to sign NDAs and i was actually originally found through a server by simply posting art and hired on the spot without having done any work for them beforehand which i found a little odd but still accepted due to appealing concept art. I really enjoyed the work of all the artists there and it's a bit unfortunate it had to go down that path.

Oh My goodness... Back in April last year i got an opportunity to work with this team. My art wasn't good at the time and as much as i tried to replicate the art style, i failed horribly and was criticised by people in the server, instead of them trying to help me. I agreed to stay on to promote and enjoy it for what it was rather than working as a member of the team. The owner then came into my own series server, broke a couple of my rules and after i requested that they read my rules and not try to break again, they argued with me about it and tried to make me make an exception for them, i declined and stated that everyone in my server should follow the rules i laid out (and they were common sense like not pinging everyone etc etc). They then kicked me from the entire project including the public server and said that they didn't want awkwardness and that i was being too harsh in my own server. I was at a point where i was beginning to share my art more publicly and this hit me incredibly hard... But it seems I have dodged a bullet.... I hope you're okay Cherry and everyone else who was dragged into this mess is okay as well ❤xxx

I'm so sorry you were treated like that, it's so unfair how rude and unhelpful some of them were toward people who were struggling with the style. It's so frustrating to hear Bold was acting like that in your server as well, I'm glad you stood your ground. Thanks, I hope you're doing okay too

Such a shame that Lionbound ended this way, especially with all this beautiful work, character design, and animation that went into the project! Really hope you and the others are doing alright, and that justice will/has come. One* thing that stood out to me as a *massive* red flag was how Bold (allegedly, no suing pls) said they wanted this to be a 'long-distance professional family'. I cannot even begin to describe the amount of times I've heard of (and been in!) abusive groups/environments that use such a phrase to lure others in. It's almost textbook at this point, and I urge everybody to avoid anybody- employer or group leader- who speaks with this kind of rhetoric. It's one thing to have a very tight-knit friend group that considers each other family after a long while of sticking around. It's another when your employer wants you to become a part of their 'family'. The latter is a very common abuse tactic in many industries, especially during these very turbulent times when others are looking for positive connection & support. Once again, I'm sorry that you went through this. This shouldn't have happened, and none of you deserved such terrible treatment. * Edit: Of course, among *many* things. I can only hope that any minors who were affected are safe now. Many adults in this situation clearly failed to properly step up without reducing themselves to petty drama. Looking through those logs, I couldn't believe what many of them were saying, and how they were behaving. Utterly unprofessional, and very, very concerning.

Thank you ♡ Yeah in hindsight there were so many red flags, I'm not terribly surprised it ended like this. The managers' behavior was horrible. I also really hope all the minors affected are doing okay, I know of one at least who's doing a lot better now thankfully!

At the end of the day, we're all deserving of respect and patience, no matter our skill level, production output, and even age. I'm really glad to hear that, that's an immense relief already. Sorry y’all had to endure that. I went to apply for voice work and merch work and when I saw they weren’t paying people I was like HUH? This is like- frame by frame animation. They had a merch team, a patreon and a donation link so they intended to make money. I got tf out of there thanks to some friends warning me. Gross behavior.

Ew yeah I noticed that a little while ago, and when I asked them where the money was going, they vaguely answered it was being saved up for future funding. As far as I know, at least the artists whose work was put on patreon have been compensated now, but that was still shady as hell

I remember the owner DMing me a while ago saying they liked my art and asked if I wanted to join their animation team. Being an aspiring animator, I said yes in a heartbeat but I never got a response back. I quickly forgot about it though, but months later I remember seeing them suddenly pop up on my recommended videos. Seeing how professional everything looked, I thought I missed out on a huge opportunity, but I guess I dodged a bullet, though. I know my story is not as intense compared to the people that actually worked with Bold, but I thought I’d just share mine.

This is quite old by now but damn! I didnt know this until now, i was just recruited as an animator for lion bound but they let me go when they closed it for under 16-year olds, i was i think 13-14 at the time at that point- im honestly now glad that i had to leave knowing this info now. :’)

That’s crazy seeing what happened to the studio! I actually got recruited to work there and looking back I suppose it was clear things were going to go downhill. I had to quit due to the strict deadlines despite myself still having to go through style practice! They expected animators (those with the role) to still meet deadlines though when things weren’t done in style they were disappointed. I’d say it was a very stressful 3 months for me 😅 Honestly I thought it was just me struggling hence why I quit, though I didn’t know others were facing the same difficulties! Despite all that, within the studio and even here I love seeing your work!! Watching you progress and make such neat animations within the studio was great to see, and I’m glad you were able to post them here! You did such an amazing job on all of the animations, designs, and character art you did! Despite how terrible conditions were in the studio, I’m glad I had the opportunity to work alongside you even for a little while! Keep up the amazing work!

But now we’ll never see the final product because of Boldbird’s bullshit. I had already made a pair of original characters that were Asiatic lions (Indian lions). Hi! I've only just recently found out about the drama, and it really is sad to hear about what happened to the people affected by the situation. Lionbound would have been such a great animated project only if this didn't happen. Boldbird also seemed to have some other promising animated projects too, like Everlend and Defenders of Alodia. But, if you don't mind, I'd just like to ask a question! Only if you're comfortable with it. I know that you're *not* the owner of Boldbird Studios, but I just want to know your opinion. If someone who is not affiliated with Boldbird Studios attempts to make a remake of Lionbound in some form of media (like a comic, novel or just an animated series), would that be considered as copyright towards Boldbird? Or no, since (from what I hear) Boldbird is disbanded?

Yeah it's a shame, but thankfully Everlend and DoF are still running since they were just partnered with Boldbird! And Lionbound is still owned by the studio founder, Bold, so any remake without her permission would be theft, even though the studio making it was disbanded

Yeah Lionbound got canceled, but some of the other shows that were partnered with Boldbird are continuing independently (DoA, Everlend)! All of this went down on twitter and in the work discord servers so I think most people missed it D:

And yeah strangely the Lionbound socials gave the impression we were far in production and even offered a release date of late 2023, but we hadn't even started on the pilot yet lol (aside from the script I believe?). The animations being made were mainly for promo/practice assignments

Np! Yes, Boldbird as a studio has shut down. Lionbound and Blink and the Brute were canceled, but the other partnered shows are continuing independently now (Defenders of Alodia, Everlend, and a few others I forget). I think Spitfire/Fierceracer is still running, but I would be wary of it since Bold (BBS founder) was the creator.

Is it ok to ask what exactly happened I’ve been able to pick up bits and pieces of what transpired resulting in the studio disbanding and Lionbound being canceled but I don’t know the full story (sorry if this question has been asked already)

The Twitter link in the video description has a document with a lot of information. It includes much of the Africa conversation, during which one of the show's composers left, and the next day, when members found out this happened, a lot of them started leaving the project as well. I think if you scroll through the Twitter replies you'll also find some other documents, one of which shows lots of team members resigning.

What was lionbound supposed to be originally? I don’t remember hearing anything about it until I saw some animators talking about the terrible working conditions.(Edit: spelling error)

Also really unfortunate that the studio ended up being so terrible to employees this looks like it would have been good! I’m glad animators are posting what they did do so we can still see all the work they did!

Lionbound was originally going to be an indie animated series posted on KZbin by Boldbird Studios (a very new, unofficial studio). It was made by a team of volunteer animators with the hope/plan of getting funding for the show after the pilot episode.

@@daisypage9394 It'll all most likely be shelved. The show concept was by the founder of the studio and, to my knowledge, she has no plans of handing the project to someone else
