About how long do you allow for the customs? I already had the bridge in mind, but will definitely be looking into the rock formations and winery. Also, thanks for the tip on the reusable bags - this is the first I heard about those.

I just left Aruba 2 days ago. The weather on average is 90 during the day and 80 at night. Also, maybe give current crime, not from 2008, 16 years ago. Aruba residents are very honest! If you lose something of value, it will most likely be turned in. My friend lost her bank card and the front desk had it. A person dropped $400 cash at Super Foods and it was turned in.

I agree they are very honest. My girlfriend left her 1200.00 camera on a vendors table. We didn't notice it until we got back to the resort. We drove back to the festival but it was after 11:00pm. We got lost but we passed the police station by accident so I decided to file a report since We were there. The next morning we got a phone call from the lobby. The police chief delivered the camera to us! Unbelievable! I've been going there for the past 10 years. My first year I met members of a band who were performing at the Bon Bini. We hit it off and became friends. We communicate every year, and three of the singers visit us at the resort at least 3 times a week and we have a great time singing Karaoke. They also take us to the places "The Locals" go. We always have a great time. It's funny because now their cousins, uncles, aunts, etc hang out too! I've watched their kids grow up. One of my friends niece is Miss Aruba and competed in the Miss Universe contest. My happiness was spoiled only one day when a TRUMPSTER decided to wear a Trump T-shirt and a MAGA hat at the resort. I filed a complaint with security as well with the Board Of Directors of the Resort. I told them that I was deeply offended and they needed to tell him that his shirt was Offensive, and that they need to prevent people like that from spoiling their country. That guy didnt wear the T-shirt or hat again. I go to Aruba to get away from crap like that in the U.S. Nobody cares what political persuation or candidate your allegiance is with. Frankly it tells me more about YOU than who you vote for. I LOVE ARUBA, and especially the people. One day I hope to buy a condo there for when I retire. Sorry about the rant. Thank God it was only 1 person that tried that crap.

I’m Aruban born and raised. Thanks for the wonderful info. If I might add my two placas. Is Aruba safe? In Aruba runners have to run very early in the morning to beat the heat. The longer the run, the earlier. I’m a female runner who mostly goes at it alone. To this day no issues on the road. Of course I prefer reasonably lit areas and stay watchful of my surroundings, but running in peace and quiet in the early morning and then watch the sun rise, is one of the things I enjoy because of the safety of Aruba’s roads. Secondly, if you really love Aruba, don’t go on those atv or utv tours. Those awful things have been a disaster for our flora and fauna and most people who live in the areas they go to detest the horrible noise and dust they make. Please go tour the north side with a guided jeep tour or renting a jeep on your own, but please avoid those awful destructive caravans.

Otherwise, I don't plan to walk in any residential areas during my vacation.
@LucasWorldTravel6 ай бұрын
I would still walk. I don't consider Terrazza Italiiana to be a residential area. It's still mostly resorts and commercial properties. Plus, any dogs on the beach boardwalk are very friendly. So, I wouldn't worry about walking around Eagle Beach at all. It's the neighborhoods behind the Super Foods that have the more territorial dogs.

Both hotels and Airbnb’s are great. It’s all about personal preference. We personally prefer Airbnbs. Plenty of people however do not. I suggest for long term stays go Airbnb. In the Carribean, dogs are traditionally well trained to protect the property. As long as you keep walking, they won't go after you. If you stop or look like you want to go onto someone's property, then they might charge at you.

All I know of this dog in Aruba came from behind the fence crossed the street and followed us down the street barking and growling. It should not be that way. Guard dogs should be confined to the yard for everyone’s safety.

@@LucasWorldTravel I hear you, and I'm certain it was a terrifying experience. I was born in Jamaica but came to the US as a child, so I am familiar with and comfortable in each country's culture. After 15 years in the US, I returned to Jamaica to spend time with my grandparents at their home in the country. When I got out of the car, their dogs immediately ran towards me, barking and growling all the way. With one word from my grandmother, they stopped in their tracks and returned to her. I stayed at her home for a month, and the dogs paid me no attention because of that first call back. She even had me feed them a couple of times (raw chicken with bones and other scraps). During that time, I was able to observe their behavior, which consisted of warning anyone and everyone not approved by my grandparents to stay away from the property line. Sometimes the dogs would give chase to ensure the potential intruder didn't try to be slick. I never saw them bite or attack anyone because everyone that pass the property got the message. The only dog attack that I'm aware of was here in the US. My brother was very badly bitten at our friend's house in Washington DC. Her dog was poorly trained and only understood attack mode, so when he managed to escape from a locked room in the house and quickly found him in the livingroom preparing to leave with us for school. My brother's initial scream was terrifying. He continued to scream, however, because the dog had locked his jaw into the bite and wouldn't release. The adults at the house struggled to free my brother (age 9 at the time). The bite went to the bone and required an emergency room visit, bed rest for several days, and crutches for sometime thereafter.

@@wokdelite On the islands, if you have dogs and they are biting people, the owner will be criminally libel and fined. Something else to know, dogs usually aren't treated as pets on the Islands. They are working animals trained to guard property or atleast alert the owner to an intruder. Is it possible for us to agree that the Lucas's encountered one of many cultural differences between the islands and the US?
