Arvo Pärt: Passio / St. John Passion / Johannespassionen

Mogens Dahl Kammerkor fremfører Arvo Pärts Johannespassion i Christians Kirke, påsketiden fejres med et af de smukkeste og mest højtidelige værker indenfor den nye musik.
Pärts Johannespassion er komponeret i 1982 og er med rette blevet et af den estiske komponists mest elskede værker. Johannespassionen er i sit tonesprog præget af en gribende, renfærdig minimalisme og skildrer ligesom de traditionelle passionsværker påskeugens dramatiske historie om Jesu pågribelse, rettergang, lidelse og død.
Som ung eksperimenterede Arvo Pärt med forskellige af den vestlige modernismes kompositionsteknikker; men efterhånden fandt han sin helt egen enkle og meditative stil, der har gjort ham til en af nutidens mest kendte og elskede komponister. Hans musik er præget af en dyb religiøs inderlighed og af den tidlige katolske kormusik fra 14. til 16. århundrede.
Mogens Dahl Kammerkor har tidligere præsenteret en lang række af det 20. århundredes væsentligste kirkelige værker på koncerter, festivaler og på den anmelderroste cd Sacred North. Kammerkorets årlige påskekoncert Skærtorsdags aften i Christians Kirke har budt på hovedværker af bl.a. Gorecki, Schnittke, Martin og Pizzetti og nu er turen altså kommet til Pärts uforlignelige hovedværk, Johannespassionen.

Thank you, singers and orchestra! You recorded an intrepid performance of a stoic, cloistered work. Although I am now an atheist, I still venerate the incredible Passions and Requiems given to all lovers of art and humanity. The agony and redemption emblemized in the Catholic Mass of my childhood is even more meaningful now as an adult, because now I realize the Romans actually crucified tens of thousands of people over 700 years. We who care about humanity more than any god want the gratuitous erasure of lives to command our attention, and to be abolished. Art, with its reciprocity of beauty, and powers of repair, can help speed the end of suffering that is visited on humans by other humans. Denny Smith San Francisco

Sounds great. I used this as a rehearsalvideo, and after listening/watching a "thousand" times, I found that the altoevangelist went Down a Third in stead of a fourth at one of her soloparts. I automatically think that everyone exept me, never do anything wrong when singing :D Happy that I found out, and got just that one right, at least :D (We had a totally different arrangement in "my" choir, as we are not made of soloists, but I did have a few of those soloparts alone) Beautiful work. :)

Vertaald uit het Deens: Mogens Dahl Kamerkoor voert de Johannes Passion van Arvo Pärt uit in de Christians Church, en viert daarmee de paastijd met een van de mooiste en plechtigste werken uit de nieuwe muziek. Pärt's Johannes Passion werd gecomponeerd in 1982 en is terecht een van de meest geliefde werken van de Estse componist geworden. De Johannes-Passion wordt in zijn toontaal gekenmerkt door een aangrijpend, zuiver minimalisme en geeft, net als de traditionele passiewerken, het dramatische verhaal van de Paasweek weer, Jezus' gevangenneming, beproeving, lijden en dood. Als jonge man experimenteerde Arvo Pärt met verschillende compositietechnieken van het westerse modernisme; maar gaandeweg vond hij zijn eigen eenvoudige en meditatieve stijl, die hem tot een van de bekendste en meest geliefde componisten van vandaag heeft gemaakt. Zijn muziek wordt gekenmerkt door een diep religieus elan en door vroeg-katholieke koormuziek uit de 14e tot de 16e eeuw. Mogens Dahl Kammerkor heeft eerder een breed scala van de belangrijkste sacrale werken van de 20e eeuw gepresenteerd in concerten, festivals en op de veelgeprezen CD Sacred North.
