De profundis clamavi ad te, Domine;
Domine, exaudi vocem meam.
Fiant aures tuae intendentes
in vocem deprecationis meae.
Si iniquitates observaveris, Domine,
Domine, quis sustinebit?
Quia apud te propitiatio est propter legem tuam sustinui te Domine,
ut timeamus te.
Sustinui te, Domine,
sustinuit anima mea in verbo eius;
speravit anima mea in Domino
A custodia matutina usque ad noctem speret Israel in Domino,
quia apud Dominum misericordia,
et copiosa apud eum redemptio.
Et ipse redimet Israel
ex omnibus iniquitatibus eius.

Whenever I listen to this, it reminds me of Mama (2013) since someone did a video of every scene of Mama that had this music. They should really have this as a horror movie theme, it would fit as perfect as a jigsaw puzzle. Edit: gosh, 8 years since I put this here, I was such a different person in 2016. I have to say, this is so... it's just purely indescribable, even to me who's an atheist. It's magnificent, is all I can say.

To me,the essence of any creativity comes from the energy all around and within us.It does not matter what form the creativity takes.I have always felt the more open minded we become to the energies given out by the natural elements around us the more creative we can become,we almost become a conductor allowing ideas to become reality. I am not a religious person,I just try to except and enjoy every moment I am given and understand that we are so so fragile.

1 - Out of the depths I have cried to thee, O Lord: 2 - Lord, hear my voice. Let thy ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication. 3 - If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: Lord, who shall stand it. 4 - For with thee there is merciful forgiveness: and by reason of thy law, I have waited for thee, O Lord. My soul hath relied on his word: 5 - my soul hath hoped in the Lord. 6 - From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord. 7 - Because with the Lord there is mercy: and with him plentiful redemption. 8 - And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

With the lyrics the song takes you to a whole different level. One can understand the motivations of the tone of the song, you relate even better to what it tries to transmit. Here, this ancestral christian sense of having sinned and pleading God for mercy.

Arvo Pärt... everytime I listen to his music I get in a state of... I don't know how to explain it, I feel that my existence is questionable,it is amazing how the language of music can express something so deep,so real. I believe that music can solve %90 of humans problems,because as we all know, to solve a problem,the first thing we need is to understand the source of it.Music is a language that can't be translated,it's impossible,yet it is the language of the universe.Thanks for sharing this

It's like recognizing and seeing men as moving abysses with only a hint of beauty in them. That endless stream of horrid, vile, and horror that comes from the evil we commit and yet this song sees that spark of inhuman beauty that lies within us all. We have but a spark of beauty amongst the rest of our abyss. That's what the song makes me feel.

I have no religion but I respect them all. For me, a writer, Art is much more than what you described. Of course, there must exist a certain background but an educated mind and a free spirit brings much more of Art than Religion ever did. btw Religion borrowed from Nature, the faith of others, their willing in reverencing a greater being and their fear of merely existing. To each its own.

Psalm 130 (partial translation): Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD; Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

@Sawyervilleman It's one of the Penitential Psalms. If you're a fan of Renaissance music you have likely heard it, since almost anyone of note at that time set it musically. Do a search on Psalm 130 and you'll get a translation.

Arvo Part describes his experience through music. He is expressing the Radiance of Divinity as he is able. Words cannot describe the ineffable, but music is a better vehicle of expression. Religion is simply a facsimile, telling of perception of the formless Divinity. Not until one has surrendered to Divinity, and begins to experience that Presence within, does religion have meaning. Then the Essence of Divinity is known. Until surrender, the paradox remains, as does the vacuum within.
@WebsterAnn
@WebsterAnn 13 жыл бұрын
@mattew2221 It's called Mystic or Holy Minimalism. Part and Henryck Gorecki write in a style similar to the music written for the Catholic church during the renaissance and pre-renaissance eras. If you want "holy" voices, look up William Byrd, Benjamin Britten, and Thomas Tallis to get you started.

The eye of God, or is it maybe God Himself in music, or in a single note? Or is it simply man? Or is it both, in One? Or is it nothing? I feel my image of the world is getting distorted every time I try to resolve the mystery of perception and understanding. Until I am able to comprehend the entire world within its infinite, tiny, beautiful things, my soul will not rest. And until then I can only let it float on the wings of this distant prayer.
