@melissakozusko92442 жыл бұрын
@@realSimoneCherie My thinking has always been that he grew up never feeling good enough because Tywin was awful to him. I recall him talking about force teaching Jaime how to read. I’m guessing that Cersei was the only one who ever gave him any affection at all so he took that for love, in spite of the way she talks to him. And figured, particularly after killing the King, that he was never worthy of anything more. Then comes Brienne, with whom he can be completely honest, and she sees that there’s good there. There’s honor there. And clearly loves him to distraction. It’s here, in the moment where he says he will return the Stark girls to their mother and she addresses him with honor, that the light switch turns on and he sees that he’s much more than his family ever led him to believe. He sees that he’s worthy of the love of a good person because HE can be a good person. It’s in this moment that he decides to go that route. It’s why he turned back and rescued her from the bear. It’s a huge shift for him that was done really well by both the actor and the writing.

That being blended with the fact that Cersei had a lot of trauma inflicted on her as a child by her mother's death, the fact that her father wouldn't even let her grieve her mother like a proper human, the fact that her father (for his own glory) basically sold her off in marriage to a man who would never give 2 craps about her as a wife or lover or... At all. She was never good enough for her father. She was never good enough for Robert. The one person she felt truly loved her (uhhhh not in that way) was her mother whom in her eyes was taken from her by her brother. Even though I'm sad that the Hound lost that nice little community, especially in such a brutal way, it makes me happy that he found some peace for a little while, perhaps for the first time ever. And even though I'm sad that he's on a rampage of revenge, it makes me happy that possibly for the first time ever, he cared about another person enough to call them a friend, and be angry they died, and set out to find and kill their murderers. He connected with another person. Until I heard him say to another person that Brother Ray was his friend, I didn't think he could do that. I didn't think he could be vulnerable enough to do that, let alone admit it to anyone else.

The Waif has gotten the best of Arya over and over again and there's no reason to believe this time would've been any different. Except in the only situation where she had an advantage over The Waif, in blindness. That moment of her slicing out the candle with Needle was badass. One more typical headchopping segment would've meant nothing. The Moutain already had that covered. The way this was done, bringing it full circle to the blind training and leaving the rest to imagination, was much more inventive and made for an awesome climax.

Part of me makes me wish that Cersei’s daughter Myrcella would come back and become queen because I cannot see her allowing the sparrows to cause trouble either. She is sweet and kind like Tommen but unlike Tommen she isn’t a pushover. She refused Jaime’s attempts to get her out of Dorne at first because of her love for Trystane and neglect from her mom but she only agreed to go until she got what she wanted: which was her betrothed coming with her. She is kind but assertive if needed to be if something doesn’t go her way, just not in a bratty way like Joffrey. If the sparrows arrested her betrothed or someone close to her, than she would probably react but not to the point of being cruel like Joffrey. Plus she was able to deduce her parentage when she was alive meaning she must be somewhat intelligent right? I think Princess Myrcella would be a better ruler than Tommen and Joffrey combined.

A lot of people are critical of the way Arya was wandering around out in the open in the last episode, but I think she did it to smoke out the Waif, because really it would be pretty terrifying to have a “faceless man” on your tail, and she’d definitely follow Arya to Westeros. This fits with the trap she set for the Waif beforehand by stashing needle in a place where she could fight her in the dark, a situation where Arya would have a strategic advantage. It’s really a pretty smart play. One detail that’s often missed is Arya’s blood trail goes to the pool of water they gave to people to kill them. The deal is that it poisons people who aren’t “no one” but to people who are “no one” it’s healing. Thus Jaquen’s comment that now she really is “no one.”

When Jaime says 'It's yours. It'll always be yours', I legit get sentimental just thinking what a long journey these two characters have had. A really compelling scene from two hopeless romantics. If this was anything else they would be making out in that tent, you know that. Well they would've made out long before this, in that bath back in S3, and yet that look of pure sadness they give each other here was more expressive than a thousand make out scenes. What an agonizing build! Btw Jaime taking Riverrun with Rains of Castamere playing in the back is my type of aesthetic.

I love how that scene played out. Arya baited her to fight on HER turf... the darkness. Arya knows how to fight in the dark, and we know that! Hehe, the thing that bugs me in shows or movies, and I know its a little nit-pick of mine, but like who goes around lighting all these candles? The room where Arya put Needle, cuz she knew she would need it someday, I'm assuming she didn't leave no candle lit because it would have burnt out in the days. So like, as soon as she ran into the room to await The Waif, did she take the time to light that candle?? lol Same thing with in that House of Black And White, there are thousands of candles around the bases of all those face columns there right? Who goes and maintains those candles, making sure every one is lit, and at the same level too? Wouldn't it be more efficient to have it more of a brazier around the columns, much easier to light every day or maintain them, just need to add something to burn like oil or some shit. Like it also bugs me when TV shows do it like say its a sitcom or a romantic scene where they put like 100 candles in a room to make it romantic. Like, bitch I know you didn't set all them candles in your house! hahahah

Love the storyline with Arya becoming Noone. If you look back Jaqen set everything in motion for Arya to remain Arya. He knew exactly where she was and what she was doing throughout her time there. He knew she hadn't thrown needle into the water or he would have said so, he got the coin back she'd thrown in so definitely would've known about needle. He sent her to the harbour where she saw Meryn Trant, she stabbed him in the eyes so she lost her sight as punishment which made her a better fighter, he sent her to the plays where she watched her family being portrayed in a negative way to keep her family ties strong. Jaqen knew that although Arya has a strong personality she's not as ruthless as the waif, that running through the streets was perfect in showing the difference between the 2 girls, the waif, focused and determined, Arya as determined but retaining the ability to plan ahead which ultimately cost the waif her life. That tiny smile from Jaqen at the end said it all, "My job is done".

Jaime didn’t “go back” to savage-Jaime, Jaime never actually changed. The only thing that changed was our perception of him from getting to know him better. Savage-Jaime was always very clear about why he killed the Mad King, and “reformed”-Jaime has been very clear about what his priorities are. He will always do the right thing for the people he cares about. Sometimes those will be people we also care about, sometimes they won’t. Either way, Jaime Lannister is Jaime Lannister. 🤷
@DrainingVenom2 жыл бұрын
Valid opinion, but I respectfully disagree on parts. I agree about "Redeemed" Jamie not being a thing. But "Honorable" Jamie? Absolutely. "Savage" Jamie is a persona. It is very common for someone to hear hateful things about themselves, and if it goes on long enough, they begin to embody those hateful things. To embrace it. To believe it. Despite the true intentions behind him killing The Mad King, people have viewed him in a specific way: as Kingslayer, dishonorable, selfish, despicable. He endured it for so long, that he became that persona. As Tyrion says to Jon in Season 1, "wear it like armor, so it cannot be used against you". Brienne eventually sees past the Kingslayer persona, and sees Jamie for who he is underneath the persona: an honorable man. The man who looked up to Ser Arthur Dayne, and wanted nothing more than to be a respectable Knight. Part of his love/respect for Brienne, is the fact that she is the only one who sees, desires, and challenges his true, honorable nature. Whereas Cersei discourages his honorable self, and nurtures and desires the person he has become; who would cast aside his honor for her without hesitation. A truly honorable man, who willfully resorts to truly dishonorable acts to protect those he loves. Such a compelling character!

"I wish we could have seen it." Not seeing anything was the point of that scene. Arya spent a long time blind, learning to act without sight. Cutting the candle which was the only source of light in that underground chamber meant both of them were blind- and Arya had more practice in dealing with that. (In the show, the books might need another way for her to beat a Faceless Man if that comes up.)

I also think that in the books, if the Waif is charged with killing Arya, it will be MUCH better because it will be a struggle for her. Even though she’s “no one”, she obviously cares for Arya and is kind to her. I think it will be interesting to see the inner struggle she’ll have with it.

Jamie has not become back to old Jamie with his little blackmail. On the contrary, he has always been like this. He loves Cercei, he fell for her, but he always did what was necessary, even if it was not in Cercei's interest. Cercei wouldn't care how many people die. Jamie does care. Hence the blackmail and the fear. He didn't want to kill people unnecessarily. He wanted to end it all as bloodlessly as possible. To do this, he have to play mind games. He took the fortress and only Blackfish died because he was looking for battle. Jamie follows orders and yet he protects human lives as much as he can. He even stabs kings to protect people. Only those who directly endanger him and his sister are eliminated. Everyone does terrible things for love, as he himself has explained here very comprehensibly on examples of other houses. Btw. It was clear at the moment that Aria won when she turned off the candle with needle, because that's what she trained for when she was blind. The other did not have this experience.

In this episode when the dude said to the hound "it's not too late for you, you can still do more good than the bad you have done" Am I right in thinking that's almost exactly what his friend who was played by Ian mcshane told him as well? Or am I remembering wrong?

It was obviously wrong for jamie to push a child out a window, but from jamies perspective, if bran would have told anyone about seeing them then king robert would kill his children, the whole lanister dynasty would fall, jamie would die protecting cersei and his children and his whole house stamped out and loose all power, so in a way jamie would be the cause of everything he loved dying if he didnt push bran out that window. (also arya went thru a bathhouse, so proof they wash)

It's normal to feel a bit let down by off camera fights & deaths, but a blowout here would've cheapened the main course. Having Arya cut out the candle makes a much better suspenseful scene than another generic sword fight would've been. Not blowing the load early or repetitively was the ingredient which created the iconic GoT moments. They could've easily had a heroic send off for the Blackfish here, but holding back for the right moment is an art too. Yes Blackfish is legendary but he was never more than a side character in the show . You cant highlight all ten thousand Asoiaf characters. What Blackfish's men did was very much in line with history. An oath to his liege lord took precedence over all else for an honorable knight. Which brings us to Brienne & Jaime. This episode is theirs, the fighting at Riverrun is just the backdrop. This obvious fact seem incomprehensible to some. They didn't have time to go into the Siege of Riverrun and nothing wrong with that. It's a complicated minor plot involving Tommen, Kevan, etc. and would've been impractical to waste a season on. So they incorporated it with the broader Jaime arc. The story of two star crossed lovers stuck on opposite sides of loyalty is shown phenomenally here. This is a great emotion driven episode, the blowout is next up.

I honestly think Jaime saw Brienne for the first time and that's why he was being such an obstinate little shit of a flirt from day one...he likes blonde women and knights and started going "blonde lady knight? 👀" and then she kept him in check but saw the good in him he was like "she reciprocate? 👀" and just him going "it's yours, it was always yours" doesn't just mean the sword, it means his heart zomg! ☺(he has the other half of the sword, Ice, so they're bonded together nyan! 🥰) but the way Greyworm and Missandei act around one another...most wholesome couple in the entire show 🥰
