I started listening to Ajahn Brahm talks since 2003 because I discovered my body slipped into severe depression after diagnosis from a doctor. I never even know what major depression was! I couldn’t get out of bed, extreme fatigue, constipated, slept through the day but was fine at night, etc. On top of the illness I was feeling guilty about not being able to go to school, letting my parents down etc. His talks helped me deal with the illness and gave me room and space to recover. Over the years, I continue to have relapses and recently it worsened to the point I started being very suicidal. Even at my worst I remember this too will pass. And ajahn brahm’s story about the tiger and snake so I took moments amidst losing my sanity to enjoy some honey. And persevered. With medication, rest and patience I bounced back out of that dark phase. Buddhist teachings really help me to accept this condition and continue to persevere using meditation, yoga, chanting etc. and medication of course. I tell my family that if it weren’t for this illness, I wouldn’t have started practising meditation. So something really good came out of this immense health challenge, as Ajahn Brahm said let the dung become manure so we can grow a sweet mango tree. It may continue to be my lifelong health challenge but now I’m full of faith that mindfulness and meditation can help me mitigate the symptoms. Also, nothing is certain! :) so much gratitude to the Buddha, Dhamma and sangha.

Great to hear from you! How are you doing now? Schooling good but not essential. The main thing is wisdom not information. Importance is moral values and meditation. There are many people who are illiterate but living good lives, better than a PhD professor. Good luck.

I really enjoyed your story 😂 I have found myself in similar health related problems leading to heart surgery and strokes . At my lowest point I would pray for these sufferings to come to an unnatural end . The teachings of Ahjun have put things into perspective and shown me that my pain and suffering is shared by all and that we ought to be compassionate to others but most if all to be loving and caring to ourselves. I am 66 and I am still learning. I hope all is well with you 😂

*I want people to share this video to people who has depression. I depressed about my exam when I was in highschool. I studied hard but I failed again and again, it made me felt like I failure and I am a loser, i felt like I disappointed my grandmother but after I listened this. My mind were opened. I depressed because i hurting myself, I let my happiness go for this achievement and bring negative thoughts on myself. Finally I accepted that I failed my exam but in the end my grandmother not disappointed in me. She was happy to see me being happy, she knew that I focusing on sometimes that impossible and let go my happiness for achieving. She wasn't happy what I had been through. Now I realize that nobody perfect but it doesn't mean you have to follow perfection*

He makes a lot of sense. I have suffered with anxiety and depression all my life, it runs in my family. We learned that it is triggered by hormonal changes. I finally got on medication 23 years ago. Listening to the priest makes me feel positive.
@aaron___601410 жыл бұрын
I think the biggest problem is the conditioning we receive and witness as children. Are you saying you've been on medication for 23 years? Who's the priest?
@jasonjones46009 жыл бұрын
Sherrie Smith I'll give you guys the secret... I took antidepressant for 2 months than I ran out of medication. So you know what I did I'd looked up natural alternatives here's some. 1. B Vitamins, B12, B6, or B Complex 2. Magnesium 3. Folic Acid 4. A2X. Natural ingredients cost 4.95 for the 14-day sample. 5. Multivitamins 6. Passion Flower 7. Breathing Techniques 8. Exercise 30-1hr a day atleast 3-4 days out of the week. 9. Therapy 10. Self-Empowerment everyday!!! For the most effective safest antidepressant is:Zoloft, Sertraline ask for generic brands on 25 mg to start you off than move up if needed. Side effects are common but it only last for 7-10 days. After that it will take effect!!! Trust me don't give up!

I am so pleased to have found it, or I believe I was meant to. I am going to play this again and again. This is a description of life and how it tricks your mind into negative thoughts. I hope this talk helps others as it has helped me.

giving up & surrendering to the "what is" of life, as opposed to the "what if," is the most helpful move i have made. i am happier today, after having lost everything-twice-, than when i tried to "fix" life by recouping my possessions and restoring my status. now i am a nobody, with nothing, who is learing to accept that that is okay. don't try to be anything; just be.

This too will pass. Whoever you are, reading this, in whatever situation this finds you, no matter if you have a physical disease, a psychological problem, panic attacks, poor environment, no friends (you always have yourself and the whole universe to love you), lost someone close, having death knocking on your door - if I could I would come and personally say to you "This too will pass". You can tell it to you yourself, no matter whether you thought you couldn't. You've suffered enough already.

Wow! I just woke up after crying too my angela too help me too be ok with everything because I've been so through so much cruelt. I'm healing physically and sensitive by it all. And i had a message of a dream which ended with you while i forced myself into meditation too be calm and feel one with all bit anyhow, i woke up listening too you talking and when you said too be joyus i felt that loving selflessness and was happy where i am now and then i felt a very heavy tear on my face and it was from being joyus. I Couldn't stop smiling and laughing and i believe my angels, (lol!! our angels) connected the end of a dream of a perfectly of clear message & then ended it with you. I wanted too get up and go run and hug my family but its 4:30am-ish right now and they're so I'm pretty sure they would think i was severely dangerously mentally ill if i went and qoke them up with my awakening that the angels i askes for help too had me so happy and i was joyous. so i just did that back scratching dance that the guy with no arms was talking about because we can hear everything so i just had too lay here and not scream of the joyous feeling i felt through your message it was so hard. 😁😁😁😁😁😀😄😄💖💖 Anyhow, thank you and your right. Thank you so much for your help. Namaste. You are a very genuine and beautiful soul. 💖 Estella Seraphim

Well said Randy. Some people's mental health seems to have a genetic factor, for which medication is required. Mild to moderate depression that does not have a genetic factor, or at least a minimal genetic factor, could probably be helped with strategies like mindfulness, assertiveness training, boundaries, self-compassion, improved awareness of self and others, exercise, good diet. The list goes on. Everyone has a different path to recovery, there is no single answer.

I'm no expert myself, but I've suffering from depression a lot in my life, as well as had severe panic attacks and anxiety. What dj is proposing is a useful technique, it's like a positive affirmation, reminding yourself that whatever you are experiencing now will pass. I've suffered from depression and anxiety many times, but each time passes. It can be helpful to remember, during a bad experience, that the experience will pass, it is temporary, because often it feels permanent.

i needed to hear this tonight. truly. am tired of shit collecting & obsessing over mistakes and bad bricks. law of attraction dictates that focusing on past failures begets current failures. we are doomed to repeat that which holds our attention, contrary to the popular adage. success has to be paramount in our thoughts. i intend to work on putting this into practice. this man is simply brilliant.

***** Mindfulness will help with depression by helping you break the habit of identification with reactive thinking and rumination that feeds the emotional formation we call depression.

***** Through developing conscious awareness and compassion towards the very reactive thoughts and emotions themselves. If you are able to be conscious of your thoughts then you are learning to be free from those thoughts; it is through this process of awakening that we become free from our identifications.

You are amazing!!! Thank you very much. My only criticism is at the beginning you mentioned that "for "severe" cases you should see a psychologist". I understand why psychologist would want you to mention this, but everyone watching this video would already be aware that they can see a psychologist. The reason someone searches and watches this video is because they want "natural" simple ways of overcoming their problems. Instead of going to a psychologist who will charge them a fortune and likely to prescribe them medication. Your video is wonderful and in my opinion there is no need to undermine it. If someone is so far gone as to not benefit from your teaching, then they would never be capable of searching and watching it in the first place. Sorry, I hope you don't mind my opinion! I am a great fan of yours and think everyone should hear what you say.
