Yes, Sabalenka was the more aggressive player. She came to net more once she realized how horribly Sakkari was playing. 10 straight games won. Power players like Sabalenka typically prefer to come forward when super confident in their game & when the scoreline affords them some cushion.

Well played mentally by Sabalenka. Given how bad the conditions were (the court was built last minute and it was windy), no one would be able to play their best, so accepting this fact is half the success. Sabalenka is a perfectionist and gets easily frustrated when she can't play at her best, but she looked calm during the game even though she was obviously pissed off at the WTA. A few hours after the game, she criticized the WTA on her Instagram.

@@eduar2971 That game wasn't so one sided as the results implies with each set lasting 38 mins. It wasn't just Sabalenka playing good but Sakkari played very bad, probably she could not adapt to conditions. She wasted so many easy points. In 2nd get she was leading 40:15 at her serve but lost. In 3rd gem she was leading 40:0 and wasted 4 break points. She committed too much to easy mistakes in this game.
@piqo44 Жыл бұрын
@@eduar2971 I think there is misunderstanding here. By writing "" It wasn't just Sabalenka playing good" I actually admitted that it was good game by Sabalenka, even I wrote another post on this forum that I was surprised how well mentally she approached that game. Conditions are same for both and it was Sabalenka who adopted better but in this type of conditions mentality plays key role so Sabalenka handled her nerves better. But don't expect another easy win like that from Sabalenka. At China Open she had also great start, defeated easily Kenin 6:1, 6:2 who was in great shape and it turned out that this game was easiest for Sabalenka.
@piqo44 Жыл бұрын
I watched the game carefully and Sakkari lost too easily given her recent shape and her previous games against Sabalenka. If you think that Sabalenka is in her best form at the ver end of the season and will easily beat her rest opponents, you are greatly mistaken. Even Sabalenka admitted she did not feel comfortable during that game because ball wasn't bouncing consistently.

Sabalenka went to the bakery & picked up a bagel & a breadstick for Sakkari. What a lopsided match. Sabalenka won 10 straight games, but I don't think she played truly amazingly given the score. Sabalenka was more aggressive & made fewer errors to be sure, but still a bunch of faults on serve. So what happened? The difference was that Sakkari stood too deep in the court for too long, never really mixed up her return position or her pattern of play, & just seemed in her head the whole time about having to take on the power hitting from the #1. It was like Sakkari was expecting Cancun to play like Guadalajara, because they're both Mexico, but the latter is at altitude, not sea level, so the ball behaves differently. Also, perhaps Sakkari's family coming in put too much pressure on her. Maybe there was a sense of self-doubt as an alternate. Whatever the case, the scorelines in their h2h are getting worse for Sakkari.
