I started riding dirt bikes (motocross) at 4 years old and my mom use to freak out so much every time I got hurt that she had to stop attending events all together just to keep her sanity. By the time I got to high school and started playing Football, she'd seen me injured so many times in just about every manner possible that nothing phased her anymore. While attending a game where I got a cleat caught under my helmet that ripped my nose half off my face and mom was at the fence smiling as the med staff was temporarily patching me up and her response was "Good Tackle! as my bloodied face looked like it had just be freshly hacked up by Freddy Kruger. I was so proud of how much she'd grown! lol

I'm just happy to see that some kids are still being taught to be tough, respectful and willing to take a few bumps. My youth was spent on the back of my horse and I live in San Diego. There was pride in having skinned up knees and elbows. If you had a cast on your arm or leg even better cause all your friends would sign it. We were taught to get up, brush it off and keep going. Not saying there wasn't tears but unless the injury wasn't that bad the old saying to get back on and keep going was always the rule. No coddling was allowed.

This bull riding is one of many activities that American kids do. All of them have risk of injury and death. When I was in elementary, a kid playing baseball got hit in the hart and died instantly. Once your child leans to walk on his own he's at risk. You have to be strong and let him walk, or are you going to contain him. Remember walking and running is a sport. The mom in the video with the kid who had the broken arm wants to continue with the sport. Yes the mom is terrified, but she has to show courage and strength for her child, to support him. She is right about being injured comes with this sport. I like to add all sports. For future reference, be strong. 😁

My daughter had a "boyfriend" when she was in Pre-K (about 4 - 5 years old; 30+ years ago). His name was "Oak" and he rode sheep in the rodeo. I don't know what happened to him after Pre-K, but he was one tough little boy. You commented about the pressure being put on the kids to perform. I found that to be fairly common in all sports. Once you demonstrate a talent and ability in a given sport and begin to rise in the rankings, coaches and parents frequently "encouraged" youth to perform better. My parents never put pressure on me as they had 8 kids and their focus was always on education. I guess the only "pressure" they put on my athletic career was to restrict travel until I could beat everyone in my region (5 states). My coach was also pretty good about the pressure as he supported my competitive drive, but never really put pressure on me other than to reinforce that results equaled the amount of effort I put into practice / training. Other coaches would really push kids (my peers) and tear them down if they had a bad race, I didn't encounter that until I went to university. I don't know that it is really different around the world or in the various sports. I personally put so much pressure on myself to be the best in the world that it didn't really matter if other people put pressure on my, none of them held a candle to the competitive drive I had myself. They aren't equipped enough to even understand the fear or the reality of their possible future. But you can't say the same for the parents. It is their duty. There are legal duty to in fact, make the proper decision to keep the children safe. No matter what the child may express that they want, they're not equipped to make that decision. I wonder what the parents of those 2 young children who have a plaque on the wall because they died doing this. I wonder about how they think about the sport now.

But you're worried about whether I inferred that 2 people that passed away are young. Why don't you show me in that video Where the woman stated that those 2 were adults, not children? In bull riding, its not a matter of 'IF' you will get hurt - its a matter of when its going to happen and how bad,... and if its not bad, how soon before you get back up and try again,... Most parents will support whatever decision a child makes,... although peer pressure to do better will always make some try a bit more than is safe,... Another point, its the second line tied back right in front of the hind legs that drives them nuts, and makes them buck and jump... its put there deliberately to make them jump and buck,... it constricts or rubs their nuts the wrong way - its uncomfortable and they want it off,... now,...

My sons played football for exercise. We thought they’d be safe because they were the biggest agile boys on the field. We were wrong. Their minds and bodies are scared for life. I’d never allow it again. Life is hard enough. I even named my second son after Lane Frost the bull rider that died. I’d never let my sons bull ride. One wrong turn and that litter in front of that girls face and she loses her eye or her life. No way! So many concussions and your adult life you’ve worked so hard to enjoy is filled with mindlessness.

Bulls don't naturally buck just because someone is on their back.

Only potential problem I can see (as a US citizen with a farming background), is these parents are so immersed into the lifestyle that they fill their own children's minds with statements, pressures, stress that they shouldn't have to deal with as kids. Parents can get so filled with their own hubris about fame and reputation that their kids end up bearing the brunt of performing to make sure the parents' reputation doesn't slip. Mostly the money involved in sports is what's driving it to ruin, doesn't matter what sport it is. Big executives and their craving for wealth, ruins the recreation and fun of it and turns it into high stakes dangerous life-altering activity.

OK 50 even 55 years ago I was these kids, I did work on horses that bucked harder than anything I drew in the Jr. rodeos where I lived and you couldn't have kept me away, my dad didn't have to make me do anything, he couldn't have kept me away, and yes my stepmom and grandma were terrified

You should find a barrel racing video to react. Exclusively a woman's event.

If she said she didn't want to do it the parents would back off. The same if she plays football or baseball.
