This song is so prophetic and so profound. "Stand on conviction / And you'll walk alone." Every believer, at some point, will question their faith and may even abandon it (like Tim here). Disciples of Christ included. All fall short of the glory of God. Many believers and unbelievers commit grave sins that take them to a dark place that will shadow them the rest of their days. It is often not until eternity is knocking on their doorstep and they are ripped from their carnal mindset of comfort on this earth that they are forced to face their own mortality and the idea of God and the hereafter. Totally agree man, I'd say there's such a lyrical advantage to scream vocals because it gives the bands the advantage to use any words, any sentence structure they want because you can just "scream them" in to your song. They don't need to rhyme, they don't need to have matching syllables. You can easily convey a message in the hardcore genre, and I feel that's what makes these songs so powerful.
