She was getting ready to spend the rest of her life in the Clothes Washing Division and decided to take a stand for her sisters to give them a chance for a better position and managed to impress the woman who is about to be crowned Empress! (Btw which one is Ling Fei? They change name so much I get a bit confused sometimes 😅)

The metaphor does good in terms of image-building, since Ruyi is set to be empress and needs more no-nonsense sternness to balance out her gentle kindness. But if you rewatch the drama and study it closely, Suoxin is much more clever and cunning compared to Rongpei, who is just blunt and straightforward. In this war where maids play a part in most of the inter-harem battles, there’s a reason why both Ruyi and Jia were winning in the first half: they both had clever, cunning maids as co-conspirators until the maids’ retirement (Suoxin got happily married while Jia’s maid Zhenshu got deported back to her homeland).
