It's so interesting how different both of Pongorma's songs are. Bolt Thrower has that big wrestler vibe to it, as if you're facing Pongorma himself in the ring. Meanwhile, As the World Begins to Wane is a lot more introspective on both his current situation and himself. Both paint a really interesting picture of Pongorma. He's the oldest member of the original Hylics crew who, like Wayne, feels more and more weary of this seemingly endless cycle. Unlike Wayne who wants to get away from the cycle, Pongorma feels like he's on borrowed time. It starts off energetic like Bolt Thrower but then switches back and forth between calmer, yet somber parts. He's riddled with doubt. He's a leftover of the Sages' era, still clinging to this shabby rock he calls home. But how long can he last fighting? Can he always adapt? Does he even want to change? Yet all the cycle can tell him is to keep on fighting. And so he does, knowing it will one day break him. That's all he CAN do. What's sadder is that this song TRIES to end in a bang, but ends in a sad, decrepit whimper. It makes me picture a sad Pongorma in a chair, rocking back and forth. A broken spirit, long gone from what was once a knight in shining armor. His last sparks can only mutter one thing: "When will the cycle end?". This is just a roundabout way of saying that this song rules and I can't wait for Hylics 3.

it makes me wonder too if Wayne has a peculiar relationship with death. Like he's the only one who can easily be reborn from it and grow stronger from it, and he can extend that to his allies as long as they die alongside him. Perhaps that's another reason why Pongorma seems to feel so "broken" as you put it. Not only does he know the cycle is bound to repeat, but he knows that without Wayne he's in more danger?

From what I understand of all the information we´ve gotten so far, maybe Wayne will end up being the main antagonist of the third game. (Be it because of the Wayne-looking enemies or the lyrics of this song in specific). Also Pongorma expressing his feelings in this song just breaks me, keep in mind that If Wayne does end up being evil Pongorma is willing to fight him. Heartbreaking.

Now you are, the enemy" Considering how during his recalling of their adventures, Pongorma refers to Wayne as "you"... that's foreboding. And he proceeds to say "when you block out the sun" and say he'll charge into battle... Sounds to me like Wayne might be becoming an antagonistic force, and Pongorma isn't happy about it

I knew right from the piercing guitar riffs that this was gonna be a Pongorma song, and just as I suspected it SLAYS!!!! Love how the mood of the song changes so many times throughout the song, and finding the various Hylics 2 leitmotifs throughout it is a real treat! The "Fancy Meat Computer" leitmotif at the start makes me believe that this song is giving us a more fortified canon connection between Gibby and Pongorma, expanding on the fact that Gibby knew him by name in Hylics 2. Or, on the contrary, it could simply be a memory of the battle with Gibby, and that Pongo is actually referring to Wayne, what with the "single file line" referencing how the characters walk in the games, and the line "There was no leader quite like him" implying a more positive opinion on who he's referring to. Hopefully we'll find out soon enough :-)

I'll prolly comment again because i am filled with so many thoughts and feelings, especially because I love Pongorma SO much, but god one thing sticks out to me so much from the team's songs. Aside from Somsnosa, who is so preoccupied with her past that someone narrates her story for her (lol), Dedusmuln and Pongorma's songs, as well as that gut punch of a line in Wayne's, really show just how much they all loved each other. Hell, even Soms' mentions how that bond makes her hesitate in the decision to journey out. These really were dear friends pulled apart by time, life, and maybe a bit of trauma too. They really truly admired Wayne, and he was the glue that held them together. ...I am oKAy iM FiNE pongorma is waiting for wayne and im FINE its fINE im definitely not teary and emotional 10/10 storytelling send me pongorma's location so i can hug him

This song is so... beautiful! It's so powerful and impactful, like Pongorma himself! To see how he looked up so much to Wayne, and how the group he misses dearly has disbanded, he was the one who stayed, the old one who only knew war and battles back in his time. Wayne's departure has changed all of them, and even though the other Waynes are still there, it simply isn't the same. They're not the same Wayne. Just want to shout out all the different voices Chuck sang in throughout the album. Its such a cool touch, really love him getting into character for these. Also, god!! The overtones during the bridge!!! And the chorus of Bolt Thrower coming in for a heroic moment! Fuck yes! And that slow, miserable end, with the motif of Endless Cycle coming in, almost menacingly!! Man. It's heartwrenching. I love how Pongorma seems to have this duality of his sentimentality and love for his friends fighting the programing/training, hell, his honor, as a dread knight. If this is meant to express Pongorma actually dying, I'll be super bummed because he really is my favorite... but anything can happen with Hylics, so I will wait in hope for what the story brings 👀 Also lmao sorry I keep commenting on these, i just keep going back to them and thinking about them!! WOAH the intro goes hard; it goes harder than all the previous songs prior to this track. then it shifts into a more solemn, depressed tune. if this is pongorma singing this, the song is full of anger and grief, longing and loss. surges of determination and the hardened will of an old knight return in guitar-heavy, quicker segments. also hehe i hear leitmotif in there this song makes me believe the songcycle takes place after hylics 2. after wayne defeats gibby and literally Ascends, our party disbands. they all set off to do their own thing, but pongorma is left to behind. he's left to lament; what else to do, now that the war is finally over? now that wayne is no longer their leader, no longer here with all of them? the cycle repeats.

Think one of my favorite things about this album is how perfectly the vocals are captured. The vocals of each song feel accommodated to the vocal qualities each character would have, and I feel it's to particular effect in this track. Pongorma's voice in this track just comes across so downtrodden and sentimental---even the powerful vocals of the chorus feel impacted by his age. It's awesome. Whole album's just truly incredible

I find it really interesting that both Pongorma's song and Ozodier's song have the line "minced to meat upon defeat". I have no idea what that means but it feels like a pretty strong connection. I'm also no music expert but it sounds like a very similar delivery to me. Gets my noggin joggin Editing this post with a message I kept trying to post but kept getting deleted by a bot or something. Hopefully it'll stick this time. Really bummed that I posted a really long theory as a reply to a message I wrote, but I think something glitched and it never actually sent so I'm going to try and write it again. I think that the third game will be around the fact that Wayne, at least the Wayne that this world knew, has disappeared. There's a lot of lyrics that imply this, not just from Pongorma's song but Dedusmuln's as well. I think his line "While what remains of you will shift and rearrange, an endless cycle of constant change" refers to Wayne as the person they once knew being gone (he was lifted by hands into the pastel sky) while the remaining Waynes have somehow changed over time, still stuck in some kind of twisted cycle of constant change. That's why if you go to Mason's twitter, there are cg Wayne-like enemies such as the flappy little guy and the giant tv face snake with a Tyro riding on its back. Makes me wonder if the line "now you are the enemy" somehow refers to Wayne's remains. That could also mean his lines "when you block out the sun, I'll turn on the light many verses one in continuous strife" refer to the new Wayne enemies. A threat to overcome (metaphorically or maybe also literally blocking out the sun and finding a way to fight against and circumnavigate that. Also clearly is an eclipse reference which hints it's about a moon) and many verses one could refer to the many new forms of Wayne serving as potential new enemies. While I think some believe the title of the album "Absent Moon" refers to Gibby, I think it refers to Wayne. Maybe that's obvious to others and I'm just missing that but I do think that's accurate. When you listen to Dedusmuln's song "Seasons" they also refer to someone disappearing and wondering what made them disappear and if part of them is still here. They also use the "absent moon" line in their song. They KNOW what happened to Gibby, he's a sick gong for the band! But they might not know what happened to Wayne and could be wondering if part of him is still in the evolving Waynes. All I can say is I feel just like Dedusmulm right now. "The mystery of this intrigues me still." I've been up literal nights thinking about this while trying to sleep. I blame you, Chuck. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to hear what you and Mason have to say about the album when you get the chance!

I think a lot of Pangorma's lyrics definitely imply needing some sort of direction after Wayne left. Everyone else moved on but he stayed stagnant. He needs someone to lead him, to give him objectives. After everything he's been through, he strives to do more than live idly because he's not used to living that sorta life. Without Gibbous, and especially Wayne, he feels like he has nothing to live for after his friends moved on with their lives.

Although it's been already partially confirmed what this song is about, I have a personal take on the idea. Wayne has defeated Gibby in Hylics 2, and now has taken his place. At this point, everyone believes the cycle has been cut, and this is the new regular. Years later, Pongorma realizes that some reincarnation of Gibby may go to fight Wayne and to continue the cycle in another form. As he does not wish for it to continue, and for everyone to finally rest peacefully, he collects everyone together once more to 'defeat' Wayne and to make sure the cycle has ended and Gibby cannot continue it. At the time, I wrote the piece for soms and couldn’t put all of the pressure of performance on my wife to sing it. We were both super busy and I was freshly recovered from a massive respiratory infection. I was way behind and just wanted to get it out. Initially, I wanted to sing somsnosa’s tune as Dracula, but then walked it back, hoping to get my wife to sing the role. Then things got so busy and chaotic, so I wrote the lyrics and sang the piece as Dracula anyway. In the long run, I really like somsnosa being the strong and silent type. Perhaps we will never hear her sing a song of her own, but I kinda dig that artistic decision.

idk if it's Odozier's doing or not. I think it's likely Wayne in some for will be the antagonist of the next game, but with how sad his songs are about his destiny and wishing to just close his eyes, makes me wonder if he chooses that path for himself without Odozier's influence.

@@KalinTheZola odozier talks about making something in his song- about remaking the king of the moon. i dont see why it wouldnt be wayne, as wayne was the only person ever able to defeat gibby (granted yes, it was with his gang, but it was still wayne who was the driving force. wayne is the one who brought them all together, wayne is kind of the reason the story of Hylics even exists in the first place). I think Wayne's song is his thoughts while he's being changed. Perhaps like he has a brain of his own, but a body that does not function on his own command. but then again, this is all just speculation

It is possible don't get me wrong, but the song feels to me more like a doubling down of his worldview, not so much him wanting to bring Wayne back. The only way I can see that working is if Wayne coming back benefits Gibby.

@@KalinTheZola Gibby died. Odozier is a follower of Gibby. Odozier wants to revive Gibby. Why not use the guy who literally *killed* Gibby to make a new Gibby? Because then Gibby would be stronger. Ofc, it's just a theory rn, because literally no one but Mason and Chuck knows what's happening. I just feel like morphing Wayne into a monster isn't outside of the realm of possibilities, esp since the 2nd game mentions turning Wayne Larvae into Warpos by feeding them Pool Wine. So body morphing is very much possible.

@@c0dy.c0la. i think its a valuable theory even if I don't fully align with it. I think its possible the antagonistic Waynes are maybe possibly the doing of Odozier. Due to the lyrics of many of these songs, I think their changes have more to do with unchecked evolution and an endless cycle of constant change rather than Odozier specifically, but I suppose he could be an active participant on the cycle. Guess we will have to wait and see!
