i rescued a basenji/red heeler mix..pregnant.....once she was trapped and at my house, i put a leash on her to go potty....she looked up at me, "never let me go !" she had 8 puppies....great homes for all.......I KEPT THE SWEET, LOVING MOM....she is never far from me.....[she was feral for almost a year]......a gift from GOD !..........

I’m not shocked at all. Dogs are incredibly loyal...I don’t think JJ was every really afraid or wary of humans, I think he was waiting and waiting for whoever dumped him at the truck stop, and wouldn’t go anywhere with anyone else. Over time he probably realized that person was gone for good. He still wouldn’t have gone anywhere on his own, but he lost the will to aggressively resist being taken away. So glad he did! Whoever mutilated his ears but didn’t bother to chip him and keep him safe didn’t deserve him.

I was shocked too, yet when I saw his eyes at the truck stop it seemed like he just gave in. I think he knew he needed the help and that this was an actual rescue💖

Such a handsome boy. Had a feeling he was going to be a foster fail. Dogs like JJ/Ruger are unique unto themselves. A definite ambassador of the breed. They need to take him to schools, events, etc etc to show pits are great dogs.

Not all pits are great dogs, sadly. Some are wonderful and sweet. Some are too aggressive to be saved unfortunately 😔

That breed does have a bad rap. They can be violent with one another, but, rarely if ever with people. If you’re still unconvinced, watch several seasons of. ‘Pit bulls and Parolees’. I was flabbergasted at how forgiving and loving this bully breed is. I’ve worked with dogs extensively. Grooming and retail pet stores. Now I volunteer at our SPCA. Most rewarding job I’ve ever had. I’d be more concerned to rescue/handle a chihuahua than a pitty. True true. I agree that he should make the rounds at schools and such as an ambassador for the breed. Help dispel myths about them. They have to defend their looks. Cuz they look menacing. But looks are deceiving, right? Big ole teddy bears they are. Huge head with its tongue lolling out of the sides of its mouth. Saying, pet me, love me, notice me…..

That's like Calista.... I've never seen a dog exude pure unconditional joy, and so much that it radiates out of her through her tail... She literally will smack it so hard, from wagging, that she's had it bandaged several times... She's on Instagram... These type dogs, and rescue/adopted know what's up and show their gratefulness the remainder of their lives....
